a case for rick santorum as vice president
DESCRIPTION
Envisioning The Vice President As Chief Operating Officer... A Case For Rick Santorum As Vice President... A Principled Legislator To Navigate Congress.TRANSCRIPT
pportunity: The vice
presidency is an
untapped position in
the executive branch. The VP is
also the president of the Senate,
a power usually ignored. A
trusted VP could act as the
president's COO, using his
knowledge of Congress to
reform and trim the federal
government.
A CEO president
would shake things up with a
VP who is an experienced
legislator committed to hard
work in the administration.
Constitutionally, the vice-
president cannot be fired -- only
impeached by Congress;
therefore, a man of exceptional
integrity is essential.
Rick Santorum, a
veteran senator, has an energetic
national following. While in the
Senate, Santorum was a
reformer. At age 38, he wrote
the landmark 1996 Welfare
Reform law, the only federal
entitlement ever to be ended. He
is experienced in foreign affairs,
pro-life legislation, economic
policy, and military affairs.
A blue-collar
conservative with deep
legislative intelligence,
Santorum inspires hardworking
American families. With his
deep understanding of
constitutional principles and the
mechanics of legislation, he
would be a bold complement to
the President, working with him
to achieve an agenda for
freedom and prosperity.
Santorum, as vice
president, would steer the
President's agenda through the
legislature while also offering
the President advice on the
constitutional order so essential
to American freedom.
America is ready for a
President who is not, and never
has been, a politician. The
people want an effective,
principled, and energetic CEO.
With Vice President Santorum
on the team, President Trump
would have at his side an
experienced legislator who has
long navigated Washington
without becoming part of its
crony culture. This would be the
beginnings of an incredibly
powerful team to make America
great again.
America's founders and
her finest leaders understood
that protecting liberty requires
constant vigilance and a
continued renewal of our
founding spirit. Santorum would
be a strategic partner for
President Trump in restoring
America to the founding
principles of limited and
intelligent government that have
made this nation the last best
hope for mankind.
O
blue-collar
conservative with an
inspiring vision and a
loyal national following, Senator
Santorum has broad appeal in
current toss-up states, especially
Iowa, Pennsylvania and Ohio.
He is a master at the stump and
a tireless campaigner who
inspires people to believe in a
better America.
As vice president,
Santorum would serve as the
president’s COO, adeptly
navigating and negotiating in the
halls of Congress, where he was
an effective, principled, deal-
making politician. Legislatively,
Santorum wades into the weeds.
He knows the game
and he has the mental firepower
to deal with the minute details of
drafting laws. He knows our
nation’s founding documents
and understands what it takes for
liberty to flourish.
What The Critics Are Saying
Rupert Murdoch,
businessman: "Santorum is the
only candidate with genuine
big vision for the country."
David Brooks,
conservative political and
cultural commentator: “While
in Congress, Santorum was a
leader in nearly every… piece of
antipoverty legislation.”
Bono, entertainer and
social activist: “On our issues,
[Santorum] has been a defender
of the most vulnerable."
The Washington Post:
“Santorum was a tea party kind
of guy before there was a tea
party."
Maggie Gallagher,
conservative activist: “In these
days when politicians’
pronouncements are mostly the
focus-grouped blind hoping to
mislead the voting blind, Rick
Santorum dares to say things
that actually matter.”
Ed Schulz, liberal
commentator: “Having seen
Santorum on the stump, he is
as good as President Obama.
I mean, he is a good retail
politic guy. He gets in that
crowd and those people are
believing what he is saying.
He’s got a very unique quality
and he connects with people.”
Michael Tomasky, left
wing writer at the Daily Beast:
Santorum brings “a spark of
feeling in politics that goes
beyond ideology … into a place
where our political selves and
our real and full human selves
collide.”
A
othing speaks louder

N
here are those who talk
and then there are those
who take action. Few in
elevated places of leadership
possess a track record of results
like Senator Rick Santorum. The
following points are a snapshot
of his overall accomplishments.
A Blue State Winner
+ Rick Santorum first ran for
Congress in 1990 against a 14-
year Democrat incumbent, in a
60% Democrat district, and
through his tireless efforts was
elected to Congress at age 32.
+ In 1992, Santorum was
redistricted – this time into a
70% Democrat district. Despite
President George H.W. Bush
winning just 29% of the vote in
his district, Santorum won with
61% of the vote.
+ After serving two-terms in the
House of Representatives,
Santorum was elected to the
United States Senate in 1994
after he defeated incumbent
Senator Harris Wofford, whose

Clinton strategists James
Carville and Paul Begala.
+ Running for re-election to the
Senate in 2000, Santorum would

lost by President George W.
Bush – defeating his opponent
52% to 46% despite President
Bush losing Pennsylvania by
more than 5%.
+ In his race for President in
2012, despite being outspent 5:1
by Governor Romney’s
campaign, Senator Santorum
went on to win 11 Republican
primaries and caucuses –
including the Iowa Caucus. His
eventual campaign exit would
still produce the most primary
and caucus wins by any
candidate not to become the
Republican nominee since
Ronald Reagan in 1976.
A Staunch Defender of the
American Worker
+ For his policy positions in
defense of American jobs and
wages, Senator Santorum was
the only Presidential candidate
to initially receive an ‘A’ grade
from the American worker-
protection group NumbersUSA.
+ Santorum believes that low
energy prices and proper
regulatory policies can spur an
American manufacturing
resurgence that will lead to
increased job opportunities for
all, but particularly for the 74%
of Americans without a college
degree.
+ Santorum will push back
against countries and domestic
T
interest groups that promote
trade policies that pressure
American wages and jobs.
While Rick voted for many trade
agreements while in the Senate,
he opposed NAFTA citing
Mexico’s currency manipulation
and its effect on American jobs
and wages.
+ Senator Santorum was a vocal
opponent of the Wall Street
bailouts and stimulus programs
instituted by both President
Bush and President Obama.
A Reformer Who Gets Results
+ Senator Santorum became one
of our nation’s leading
government reformers. During
his tenure in the House of
Representatives, he was a
member of the famous Gang of
7 that took on corruption in the
House Bank and House Post
Office – scandals that would
eventually send members of
both Parties to prison.
+ When he got to the United
States Senate, Rick Santorum
became the floor manager of the
most influential piece of
government reform legislation
since President Johnson’s Great
Society when he authored the
landmark 1996 Welfare Reform
bill. As a result, millions of
Americans left the welfare rolls
and entered the workforce. This
is the only major reform of an
entitlement program in our
nation’s history.
A Leader Ready on Day-One
to be Commander-in-Chief
+ Senator Santorum served 8-
years on the Senate Armed
Services Committee, where he

these nations and their radical
ideology.
+ Senator Santorum was the
primary Republican sponsor of
President Bush’s PEPFAR that

Santorum is the author of every
major pro-life law passed over
the past 20 years.

the ‘Workplace Religious
Freedom Act’ to ensure
individuals of all faiths would
not be discriminated against in
the workplace. He also founded
the Congressional Working
Group on Religious Freedom to

be infringed upon.
In His Own Words
October 2015: “It is time for a
President who will take a blow
torch to the tax code, end the
IRS..., and create a new tax
system for a new century -- a
single-rate system that is honest,
simple and fair."
October 2015: “If you
listen to Republicans, they never
talk about workers. They're
always talking about businesses.
They're always talking about
economic growth."
September 2015: “Our
campaign is really about trying
to help the American worker and
trying to create better jobs for
wage earners."
December 2015: “We
can go out and talk about how
we have to bail out Wall Street
and how we have to bail out
auto companies,” he said, “but
when it comes to providing
worker protection for the lowest
wage workers, we have to be
Adam Smith! No! We need to
say that we're on the side of the
American worker.”
