...we say a heartfelt goodbye to 2012. We had so much fun with all of our events, chamber luncheons, ribbon cuttings and just meeting our newest members and enjoying our existing ones. It’s so much fun getting to know everyone better and learn more about the wonderful businesses that make up our Chamber. As always, we look forward with great anticipation and forever optomistic to what the new year holds. One never knows what lies ahead for us....or do we?? Some things are uncertain...our health, our families, our jobs, will we win the lottery this year? While other things are for certain. These would include our wonderful Chamber events such as the Kelly Miller Circus, our Chamber Golf Tournament, Silent Auction & Casino Night and capping it all off...Funfest. Yes, sure as the sun will shine...sure as those Mayans got it all wrong, we will again live to see these events come to our Chamber in the New Year. We have much to look forward to this upcoming year, all the while hoping to not fall off the perverbial cliff. Lets look forward to what we know will come our way, the good things that we have to look forward to. We can’t control the weather, we can’t control the government, but we can control...and enjoy to the fullest, the events that each year your Chamber dutifully brings to you! Enjoy this year to it’s fullest! We, your Chamber, wish you a very blessed new year! Chamber Circular Chamber Circular the Royse City Chamber of Commerce Royse City Chamber of Commerce 216 N. News from your Directorby Julia Bryant

Joe Vaughn, Dean of Union ValleyAcademy announced today that PoetryCommunity Christian School and UnionValley Academy have merged to provideexpanded learning for students of bothschools. This takes effect with the springsemester. Enrollment opportunities areavailable at the Poetry CommunityChristian school office 972-563-7227.

We are in the process of booking the 2013Business After Hours. If you are interest-ed in hosting one of these popular events, showcasing your business to the communi-ty on one of the dates shown below, pleasecontact the Chamber Office at [email protected] or by calling 972-636-5000. These events are typically heldmonthly on the 3rd Thursday from 5:00 - 7:00PM, but can be changed to better fit yourschedule! If you are planning a move, grandopening or ribbon cutting, this is a greatopportunity to bring potential business toyour door!

As a part of the current LeadershipRockwall Class, I am pleased to shareour community service project we chooseas a class.

Disk golfers soon could be playing 18 holes–or baskets– at Smith Family Park in Fate. The current Leadership Rockwall classmade it official recently by selecting thedisk golf course as its community serviceproject. The recommendation for the diskgolf course was made by Fate Public WorksDirector Bobby Clay, a member of theLeadership Rockwall class. He said a list ofproposed projects was trimmed from 19 totwo before the Fate project was selected.Clay said members currently are raisingfunds by seeking sponsors for each bas-ket– or hole. Funds will be used to buy andinstall the baskets and construct concretetee boxes.

Future infrastructure projects on thecourse could include construction ofbridges over a small creek and benches. The course is expected to cover about halfof the park’s 33 acres. Clay said the projectmust be completed by May, when the current class graduates.

A reminder that McClaren Advertising willbegin making calls after the first of the yearto promote the annual Kelly Miller Circusthat the Chamber sponsors each year.McClaren will ask the business if they areinterested in purchasing children’s ticketsfor a reduced cost to either use for them-selves or donate to underprivileged chil-dren. This year the tickets that are donatedwill be distributed among the children inthe Royse City ISD elementary schoolswho are on the reduced lunch program.

Also be aware that the advance ticket salesare always significantly less than the day ofthe show, so if you have any plans to attendI would suggest getting them from one ofour retailers: Royse City Hardware, ExxonTigermart, Paynes Supermarket, RoyseCity Chamber of Commerce, SmallvilleLearning Center, and Stonebrook LearningCenter.

Last year the children loved seeing Carleeand Charlie when they came to visit beforethe circus. We will also have contests tohelp you win family passes again this yearat Arboledas in Royse City and Rockwall aswell as on Big14 GVL A.M./ 105.9 FM Radioin Greenville so be sure to look for updatesin your newsletter, e-mail and Facebook!
