Chairman’s Comments I want to thank each of our Chamber Partners who attended our Foundation’s dinner-seminar featuring Sean Covey and Kentucky First Lady Jane Beshear to benefit The Leader in Me™. While the evening indeed provided us a top-shelf “4 Disciplines of Execu-tion” seminar from Sean, it served as critical rallying point for our campaign to fund implementation of The Leader in Me™ in all our schools. Within ten days of our passing the million-dollar milestone that night, Larkin Ritter, one of our many guests that evening, was moved to make a personal investment of $100,000 to our cause.

At Scott, Murphy & Daniel’s “signature” Coffee Hour on March 29th – amid hundreds who were greeted by Big Red and the Easter Bunny to hear WKU coach Bobby Petrino – we an-nounced “The Larkin Ritter Leader in Me Challenge” that matches every donation to the Lead-er in Me dollar-for-dollar before school lets out for the summer. If you haven’t yet invested in this transformation of our schools and the leadership and character building that we have begun, please do so before May 24.

There’s exciting news to match in economic development. The Kentucky Transpark is mov-ing ahead to develop its fifth speculative building. The first four such speculative buildings developed by the Bowling Green Area Economic Development Authority have sold quickly due to excellent market understanding and a steady flow of project leads. The Chamber’s economic development staff is working over 600 leads and over 200 competitive projects, and we are optimistic for major announcements this year.

The Chamber Partnership team has met with more than 300 of our over 1,100 Partners in-person since January. What we learn from each Partner visit is documented, analyzed and acted-on to direct how we serve you. Your feedback is transforming our products and ser-vices to meet your needs and delight your experience as a Partner. We thank you for telling us what you need and want from your Chamber Partnership investment.

Consider leveraging your Partnership investment by attending Business At Its Best on April 16, where you will learn how to use the Chamber’s SizeUp™ local business intelligence suite for businesses. The SizeUp™ tools are available to you free-of charge, exclusively in the “Partners Only” section of www.bgchamber.com

I look forward to seeing you again very soon!

Rivendell is dedicated to providing the highest quality care to adolescents and children who are seeking help. The 125-bed, JCAHO-accredited hospital is located on a 49-acre cam-pus in the heart of south central Kentucky in Bowling Green. Patient care is administered by a team of qualified profes-sionals. Rivendell provides progressive psychiatric treatment for children and adolescents who are experiencing symptoms of mental health problems. The facility includes an outdoor ropes course, two indoor gymnasiums, group areas, and edu-cational classrooms. Individual semi-private bedrooms are equipped with a private bedroom and modest furnishings in-cluding a desk, bed, and wardrobe. Patient safety is a priority and Rivendell staff are trained to follow specific procedures to ensure a safe environment for all patients.Recognized Leader… Rivendell is recognized in the State as a leader in the treat-ment of children and adolescents. Patients are referred to Riv-endell from all across the State, particularly to the specialty programs that serve the unique treatment needs of children and adolescents.

Current programming provides for the special needs of men-tally ill children and adolescents. The TRUST program treats adolescents who are dealing with chemical dependency and general psychiatric concerns. The COURAGE program treats adolescent males who have been charged with a sexual of-fense. The CHOICES program serves children ages 5-12 who are experiencing general psychiatric concerns. The NEW DI-RECTIONS program addresses the needs of adolescents who have general psychiatric issues. The most beneficial impact that Rivendell hopes to provide is the positive emotional impact on the people that we serve. This impact has multiple facets, touching not only the lives of the persons with whom we are working directly, but also the families and other treatment providers who are collaborative-ly working to make a positive difference in the lives of at-risk children and adolescents

At the March Coffee Hour, John Ridley, of The Ridley and Hull Financial Consulting Group of Wells Fargo Advisors, an-nounced the campaign’s largest personal investment to-date: Larkin Ritter. “I invited Larkin to sit with us at the March 19 event because he’d told me about his son’s experi-ences with The Leader in Me at Mc-Neill Elementary,” Ridley said. “After the event he leaned toward me and said, ‘I’ve seen the difference The Leader in Me is making in our schools, families and the potential it has for our future workforce. It is changing lives! I must support this program!’” Larkin asked John to earmark $100,000 for The Leader in Me to be transferred as a match to the next $100,000 invested in The Leader in Me. Why the match? Why May 24? Both our school districts have asked to accelerate The Leader in Me training. The reason: results. The first year of implementation of The Leader in Me at TC Cherry had 252 disciplinary infractions. The following year, only 52. Our schools which have started The Leader in Me imple-mentation all share similar stories with personal testimonies of changed lives.

Most pledges for The Leader in Me are structured over a 3 year period, which was based on allocation of funds for a 3 year implementation plan with schools from both districts be-ing phased-in first elementary, middle and then high schools until all schools K-12 reached self-sustaining light house sta-

tus. A completion date of 2017 was set for the high school final phase. To respond to accelerated training re-quests the campaign must accelerate its plan to accommodate the high demand for The Leader in Me. “It’s working! Students and teachers are asking for it,” The Leader in Me Campaign Co-chair Rick Wilson said. “When we set the lofty goal to raise $1.6 million to be the first in the nation to imple-

ment The Leader in Me K-12 in two school districts we thought it was an aggressive effort. Then the kids, teachers and princi-pals spoke, ‘don’t make us wait a year, we are ready to take it to the next level of implementation.’” Wilson said. The fact that the Covey organization held its largest symposium in the nation here in Bowling Green last month to show off our schools to educators from around the nation is a testament to everyone who has taken part in and supported The Leader in Me. “Let’s make sure that the kids get this sooner rather than later…” Larkin Ritter asks with his challenge to those who’ve seen its impact.

Investments in the South Central Kentucky Transpark continue to pay wage dividends. Besides the total payroll increases since 2010, employment in the Transpark of nearly 1,200 jobs translates to a 10-year economic impact of over $3 billion. With the addition of Austria-based Alpla’s purchase of Spec Building 4, announced last month, 72 more jobs will be added. Further job announcements are expected throughout the year.

Geo-data business intelligence tool helps businesses grow, compete in Bowling Green

SiZe Up: Bowling Green Area chamber launches online Tool to Boost Business Success

The Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce became the first in the nation today to provide its Partnership an on-line tool suite designed to help local businesses grow using geographic business intelligence. SizeUp for Local Business Intelligence –located in the “Partners Only” section of www.bgchamber.com – allows businesses to easily obtain highly specific data on revenues, salaries, health insurance costs, supplier locations, and more. “We’re thrilled to be the first Chamber in the nation to offer this exclusive Partner benefit that will help them succeed,” said Ron Bunch, CEcD, President and CEO of the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce. “Now our business own-ers can instantly access demographic, industry, geographic, competitiveness, and cost-of-business data that large corpo-rations use every day.” A special demonstration of the SizeUp tool suite will be held April 16, from 7:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m., during the Cham-ber’s monthly “Business At Its Best” workshop at 710 College Street, in Bowling Green. To register for Business At Its Best, visit www.bgchamber.com. Specifically, SizeUp for Local Business Intelligence (SizeUp LBI) super-crunches millions of data points from public and private sources to provide four main features:• Performance benchmarking: See how a specific business

“sizes up” by comparing its performance to all competitors in an industry.

• Competitive assessment: Map where competitors, customers and suppliers are located to determine how to better serve customers.

• Best places to advertise: Identify areas with the highest revenue for an industry, the most underserved markets, and create custom demographic and business reports.

• Demographic analysis: View an interactive map of demo-graphic, labor force, and customer expenditure data in Bowling Green and its immediate surroundings.

“Our goal is to help businesses in Bowling Green succeed by making it simple to access very specific data on every in-dustry,” said Anatalio Ubalde, CEO of SizeUp. “Now, entre-preneurs can access valuable industry data – complete with interactive maps that display their customer base and suppli-ers – with a simple mouse click.”

SizeUp LBI is powered by SizeUp’s technology, available at SizeUp.com. SizeUp launched in late 2011 as a TechCrunch Disrupt Battlefield finalist, and was awarded first prize in the Department of Commerce’s Business Apps Challenge in 2012. In September, the U.S. Small Business Administration began using SizeUp on its website to help small businesses.

The Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce became the proud recipient of a non-regulation highway sign proclaiming its “Work Ready Community” status from the Kentucky Workforce Investment Board.

“We believe this is a true ‘sign of the times,’ as our Chamber focuses on talent and innovation,” remarked Brad Howard, Chamber Board Chair, as he accepted the large highway sign from Tom West, Executive Director of the Kentucky Workforce Investment Board.

Ron Bunch, Chamber President and CEO, observed, “As one of Kentucky’s very first Work Ready Communities, we are especially proud to receive this visible insignia to help tell visitors what we already know: Warren County is a place where we nurture and value our talented workforce.”

Small Business Spotlight

First impressions are everything in the hos-pitality industry. And instead of competing for guests’ attention with big-name hotel chains in the South Central Kentucky re-gion, hotelier Preetesh Patel ventured from the standard fran-chise formula when he opened The Hotel Sync in December of 2012, creating something fresh and new for trav-elers while changing guest impressions and expectations of lodg-ing. Conveniently located off I-65 at Exit 28, The Hotel Sync provides travelers a one-of-a-kind luxury experience. This Eco-friendly hotel offers guests carpet-free premium suites complete with a separate living room, two high-definition LED televisions, granite counter-tops in the fully furnished kitchen and a Kohler Rain shower head in the bath. To complete the home away from home feel, The Hotel Sync provides guests with fresh-ground, 100% organic and fair trade cof-fee delivered to their suite each morning. As you may suspect, The Hotel Sync isn’t Patel’s first experience in the hospitality industry. Patel has been involved with hotels and residential properties throughout the mid-west, but unlike other chain hotels, The Hotel Sync offers guests a truly unique and modern appeal. The lobby and rooms of The Hotel Sync are adorned with VSA showcases, to accent local artwork and add to the ”Stay Re-laxed. Leave Refreshed.” vibe. The spacious lobby is equipped with a

regulation size billiards table, guest laundry area, business center, and recy-cling stations, all compli-mentary for guests to enjoy. A few items you won’t find are bed skirts, throw pil-lows and comforters. This is by design so that all bed-ding, including the over-sized blanket are washed between stays. A departure from chain hotels that tend to dress up beds with com-forters or bed scarfs. Patel has been a long sup-porter of environmental sustainability and this is re-flected throughout The Ho-tel Sync, as it is a property founded upon sustainable living ideology. Guests will reduce plastic waste by uti-

lizing the refillable bulk hygiene products and the refillable filtered water station. Other green innovations The Hotel Sync offers to their guests are concrete radiant floor heating, recycled flooring on the second level, water saving toilets, and energy star rated appliances. This environmentally responsible hotel encourages guests to stay in Sync with their environment when away from home. When you have family or business clients traveling from afar, con-sider recommending The Hotel Sync to dazzle your guests with a comfortable and memorable experience. To make the decision even easier, The Hotel Sync offers incentives to all Chamber partners. If you still need convincing, just search “The Hotel Sync” on TripAdvi-sor.com to read some of the many fabulous customer reviews. For the latest updates and offers from The Hotel Sync, join them on Facebook and Twitter under The Hotel Sync.
