Message to the Industry

Encouraging the spirit of innovation

One of the factors that indicate the country’s impending growth in the plastics industry is our per capita consumption, which is the lowest in the world. The scope of reaching an augmented level of consumption

thus remains certain due to the inevitable nature of plastics and its incorporation in everyday life. Similarly, PLASTIVISION INDIA has become an intrinsic part of the Indian plastics industry, and we aspire to carry this rich legacy for years to come. How do we plan to achieve this? By encouraging the spirit of innovation and providing it with the right global platform.

To achieve this and more, we have set out to create a unique form of communication that will present readers with a bouquet of business offerings in anticipation of the event. Helping us compile relevant information in the form of this Show Preview is our official communications partner – Modern Plastics & Polymers – a business to business publication from Network 18 Publishing.

Maintaining the What’s New attitude, the upcoming edition of PLASTIVISION INDIA 2013 will distinctively focus on indiamold® – Molds & Dies, PlastiWorld® – Plastic Finished Products, Plastics in Agriculture, Automation & Robotics, Green Manufacturing and Solar Energy. Moreover, to bridge the skill gap that is present in the industry, we will conduct our much acclaimed Job Fair during PLASTIVISION INDIA 2013.

At AIPMA, we are glad we could start all our activities well in time so that you can meticulously plan, attend and obtain maximum benefit from PLASTIVISION INDIA 2013. I wish all the exhibitors and visitors all the very best. Here’s to a successful PLASTIVISION INDIA 2013!

Message to the Industry

The plastics and polymers sector has been surging ahead at a phenomenal pace over the recent years. Truly reflecting an emerging India and the promising prospects of its techno-commercial prowess, the turnover of

the plastics processing industry is closing in on the milestone of ` 100,000 crore, with a demand potential of over 12 million metric tonne. As the number of processing units increases to exceed 50,000, this industry will employ about 7 million people, directly or indirectly, by 2015.

As we move forward amid significant shifts in the application of technology and the need for more tailor-made products and services, the plastics and polymers industry is certainly not going to be the same. It is therefore imperative to chart an optimum course for this ecosystem in India to achieve an inclusive growth.

This calls for a shift from the conventional path to an innovation-driven focus in order to translate intelligent ideas into agile actions. Besides, superior efforts in improving the efficiency of organisations, building scale organically and inorganically and harnessing global expertise to improve operating margins will further aid in this direction. Also, a greater focus on green manufacturing practices, technology upgradation and optimisation of operations will take the plastics and polymers industry to a higher level of global competitiveness.

What’s New – this unique Show Preview of PLASTIVISION INDIA 2013 co-created by Team Modern Plastics & Polymers and AIPMA – offers a myriad of interesting perspectives into what is in store at this forthcoming mega international event as well as plenty of practical business propositions thereof. Go ahead and make the most of it!

Blow moulding boosterBlow Moulding Booster (BMB) units improve product quality and consistency and increase production of blow moulded products. Cooling the product is the longest and most critical part of the solidification process. BMB replaces regular blowing air with chilled compressed air (3–5°C) inside the container during the blowing process. The specially designed blow pins enable flushing of the product and thereby transport the heat from within the container to outside resulting in reduction in cooling time. The BMB units are now being manufactured in india in co-operation with BAS, Austria. These units have critical components imported from Europe.

we will display equipment for zero waste. There is very wide scope for establishing green manufacturing practices in india. However, awareness of the masses has to be increased. generally, the common man does not have the requisite information and knowledge about green manufacturing.

Our new product, ie a thermoforming machine with servo controls, will help in achieving higher output which in turn would save power. Further, we are using standard bought outs that would reduce the start-up energy loss that is crucial in plastic extrusion machines.

At present, the biggest cost for the manufacturer after energy cost is labour cost. So, we have developed the technology of auto stacking of containers that reduce labour requirement drastically. Being the need of the hour, it is an optional feature that we are offering to our customers.green manufacturing in india has a long way to embark upon. it is better being late than never. The industry has already started talking about this, and big companies are presenting a good example for other companies. it is a positive sign.

no country understands how sustainability applies to plastic materials as deeply as the UK. The industry has a strong tradition of positive dialogue with balanced environmental organisations such as Forum for the Future, the natural Step and the national non Food Crops Centre. Energy efficiency is a specialism of the UK plastics industry, partly prompted by a Climate Change Agreement entered into by the British Plastics Federation and the UK government’s Department of Energy and Climate Change.

windmöller & Hölscher had committed itself to the fundamentals of green manufacturing long before it became a favourite international topic. we spend an astounding approximately 8 per cent of revenue on R&D. Our emphasis on green manufacturing is further emphasised by a movement introduced a few years ago under the name of ‘Greenovation’. ‘Greenovation’ is sharpening our focus continuously on green manufacturing, and we have introduced more systems and sub-systems to achieve the objective of reducing the burden on the environment. we have also disseminated information about the latest technologies at some conferences in india. windmöller & Hölscher’s efforts towards reducing environmental impact of equipment and manufacture also result in reduced costs for its customers, making our equipment the most cost effective and the world’s favourite.

Innovations at Plastivision India 2013

The word long fibre refers to the longer length of glass or carbon fibre in the composite pellet (typically about 12 mm) which translates into a longer fibre length in the moulded component. The use of long fibre gives better properties as shown in the graph, allowing more efficient use of material for the same glass loading, giving parts that are stronger and yet lighter – a key requirement for industries such as automotives, defence and sports goods. in other cases, long glass allows metal conversion where it was not possible earlier due to better performance leading to savings in costs and weight.

The RePlet long fibre compounds can be produced with a variety of base resins (PP, nylons, TPU and PBT) and fibres (glass and carbon) with additional customised functional requirements of UV resistance, heat resistance, scratch resistance etc. These are already being used for multiple applications (including some highly demanding ones) in industries as diverse as automotives, consumer goods, infrastructure and defence. Being locally produced, they allow customers to have low lead times, lower inventory and, in most cases, lower costs.

Plastics have become an inevitable part of most industry sectors. I believe the upcoming edition of PLASTIVISION INDIA will play the role of a facilitator especially for the small and medium enterprises who will put their best foot forward. Functioning as an enabling platform, PLASTIVISION INDIA 2013 will channelise the energies in the right direction.

I wish to compliment AIPMA for their pioneering work to bring the plastics industry from all over the country on one platform.

‘Plastics’ is the lifeline of comfortable, convenient, healthy and happy living. If you are able to address concerns relating to the environment and engage with policy and decision makers to put plastics and competing materials on one platform, it will not only ensure growth of the industry but also deliver more delight to our countrymen.

I wish PLASTIVISION INDIA 2013 wonderful success!

The PLASTIVISION exhibition held once in three years in India is a show of significant importance to our industry because of its popularity with plastics processors of Africa and the Middle East. A convenient venue and the timing of the show make it attractive for processors in this region, especially the vast majority of business leaders of Indian origin, to come over and meet up industry friends. It also gives us an opportunity to celebrate our relationship and get fresh commitments for new business.

The only way the Indian plastics industry can sustain growth, both in terms of volumes and technology, is by information sharing, technology adoption and mass contact. There is a need to propagate new, advanced and energy-efficient technologies into the small scale sector such that plastic becomes a material of even more common usage in all nooks and corners of our country. PLASTIVISION INDIA has been a major platform for information sharing and technology propagation!
