Welcome MessageFastener Taiwan 2012
The 2012 Taiwan International Fastener Show, or Fastener Taiwan, will be staged on March 13 to 14 at Kaohsiung Arena and Hanshin Arena. On behalf of the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), the fair organizer, I sincerely welcome buyers, suppliers, and manufacturers around the world to join in this event.
Taiwan is one of the top 3 fastener exporting countries in the world, accounting for 11% of the global fastener production value and 13% by production volume. We chose Kaohsiung to present the show given that Kaohsiung is the heart of the fastener industrial cluster, and that fair participants are more than welcome to pay a visit to the nearby fastener manufacturers and check out related service providers during or after the show.
Fastener Taiwan is the only professional fastener show in Taiwan. The number of exhibitors signed up for participation has reached 230, adding up to 416 exhibition booths at Kaohsiung Arena and Hanshin Arena. We are projecting that the show will draw more than 10,000 visitors from home and abroad.
An important part of Fastener Taiwan will be the one-on-one procurement meetings. Buyers and exhibitors can meet in the conference rooms to have quality discussions on potential cooperation. Once again, you are cordially invited to the 2012 Taiwan International Fastener Show. I hope you will all enjoy participating in this show in Taiwan.
Best regards,
Welcome Message

In recent decades, the industrial environment in Taiwan has changed dramatically. In response to the changes, the "Kingdom of Fastener", by which Taiwan was known in the past, has made efforts to transform its attributes from "quantity" to" quality," and from "standard" to "customized". The successfully attempt accelerated our step towards the international market.
The achievements of upgrading the fastener industry in Taiwan, however, have came from the cooperation of many

efforts, including the industry, government and academic community. Meanwhile, wide-ranging exhibitions and marketing have brought many business opportunities for Taiwan. Such persistence enables Taiwan to meet the dumping competition of Mainland China and Southeast Asia head-on and achieve a complete triumph. The 2012 Taiwan International Fastener Show will again present you the thorough look and efforts of the fastener industry clustering in Taiwan.

Don't underestimate a small fastener like this. It creates billions of output value for
Taiwan by making great use of the industry clustering effects," said Mr. Chen Ming-
Zhao, the president of the Taiwan Industrial Fasteners Institute, Following the financial crisis,
Taiwan's fastener industry reached another peak and created the output value amounting
to US$3.98 million in 2010. Such a brilliant performance can be attributed to the complete
industry clutter effects and the constant R&D endeavors to upgrade the technology and
service in the industry. It is definitely the key to success.
Production worth US$4 billion expected in 2011
With a history of nearly 60 years, Taiwan's fastener products, used to yield the largest
amount of export in the world, honored the name "Kingdom of Fastener", by which Taiwan
was known in the past. Faced with a pricewar against China and countries of Southeast
Asia, Taiwan's fastener industry started to look for its unique advantage and decide to
develop high-end products with a higher price and quality, instead of a great quantity
merely. So far, Taiwan's fasteners still occupy a significant position globally by ranking the
fifth on output and the second on export.
It is estimated by the Taiwan Industrial Fasteners Institute that the output of fasteners in
Taiwan will reach 1.4 million tons and generate an output value of US$4 billion accordingly
in 2011. This amazing figure, however, is created by merely 23,000 employees who
work in northern Kaohsiung and southern Tainan. They constantly create the complete
industry clustering and amazing accomplishments in an area of no larger than 30 square
kilometers."The most critical factor that enables Taiwan to become the world's second
largest exporter of fasteners should be the exertion of our industry clustering effects," said
Mr. Chen Ming-Zhao.
Reviewing the history of Taiwan's fastener industry, it could be roughly divided into four
phases. Certain goals were accomplished in each of them. Mr. Chen Ming-Zhao recollected
that the first and second phases (1945-1980) were the initial and developing periods,
respectively. Originally, the United Sates imported fasteners from Japan. Following the
appreciation of yen in the 1970s, U.S. shifted orders to Taiwan due to cost considerations.
All of a sudden, the supply of Taiwan's fasteners was overwhelmed. Eyeing the emerging
business opportunities, many employees even purchased machines and started their own
business. A flood of fastener factories sprang up during that period.
Then came the third phase (1981-2000), the period of market expansion. The
competition turned fiercely, however, since fastener factories came in great numbers. "The

later phase was simply the dark period of the industry," recalled Mr. Chen Ming-Zhao. At
that time, many small factories came from the same mother factory, applied the same
technology and consequently produced almost exactly the same products. Even more,
they all targeted the U.S. market. An era of vicious competition ensued, worsened by the
appreciation of NT dollar detrimental to export.
Though confronted with many obstacles, the fastener industry in Taiwan didn't decline.
Those suppliers recognized the importance of R&D in order to distinguish between
themselves and others in aspects of products, service and channels. They would rather
catering market demands actively than receiving orders from buyers passively. The industry
finally reached consensus on eliminating the unhealthy competition. With many efforts of
the whole industry, a wide range of high-end products has been developed successfully
to replace original standardized products. Such a transformation leads the industry to the
fourth phase, a maturity period.
Soar to a new height with business transformation and upgrades
Nowadays, the fastener industry in Taiwan has came to a maturity period and made
great progress on both technology and product differentiation. It is a real challenge for the
industry, however, to adjust itself to the dramatic changes in global industry environment
and find a way out. Undoubtedly, the only way to keep it vital is to conduct an industrial
upgrading and reconstruction.
Take the international competition as an example. In recent years, China, Thailand,
Vietnam, Indonesia and other Southeast Asia countries have risen. The competition
brought Taiwan's fastener industry a lot of pressure. The export volume was even exceeded
once by China in 2003. Mr. Chen Ming-Zhao indicated that the key for Taiwan to win this
battle is to create a market segmentation different from China and aim at developing high-
class products.
Mr. Chen Ming-Zhao described the product rank as a pyramid, which means the lower
class, the more demand; the higher class, the less demand. The high-class products,
however, yield a higher margin of profit. In fact, the fastener industry in Taiwan has
made many efforts in high-end products with safety consideration, such as automobiles,
machinery, bridges, etc., in recent years. In this way, the overall export value still remains
at the peak although the export volume goes down.
In order to transform original products into high-end products, Taiwan fastener factories
started to cooperate with government, academic communities and research centers

and devote all resources to foster talents and R&D. For instance, in the aspect of school
institutes, master programs in fastener were set in National University of Kaohsiung,
National Kaohsiung University of Applied Sciences and Kao Yuan University in order to
train high-level R&D talents. In addition to school units, the Mental Industries Research &
Development Centre (MIRDC) also played a critical role in the industry and aggressively
participated in many projects, including the R&D of new products and manufacturing
processes, the upgrading of inspection technologies and equipments, marketing research
and industry training, the building of world-class electronic system and management
systems, etc.
The Taiwan government also played a significant role of backstage planner for the
fastener industry. Projects including the Preliminary Planning Project to Revitalize
Traditional Industries in Southern Taiwan Project conducted by Ministry of Economic
Affairs, the Competitiveness Upgrading Project for the Upstream, Midstream and
Downstream Metal Industry Project conducted by the Bureau of Industry, just to name
some, exerted great influence over the plan of developing high-priced products.
With all the efforts, nowadays the fastener industry in Taiwan is truly competitive with
Europe, America, Japan and other developed countries in aspects of product, equipment,
inspection technology and the quality of talent. Its capability also far surpasses China and
Southeast Asia countries and establishes Taiwan in an unassailable position in the fierce
global competition.
The fastener industry owns the advantages of talent quality and business management.
Therefore, unlike other industries in Taiwan rushing westward China or Southeast Asia due
to cost consideration, nowadays 90% of fastener companies and factories choose to stay
in Taiwan instead of moving to China or Southeast Asia.
Showtime! Here comes the 2012 Taiwan International Fastener Show
In addition to technological upgrades and training professionals, the fastener industry
in Taiwan has made new attempts on marketing in recent years. The first "Taiwan
International Fastener Show" in 2010 especially exerted every effort to create marketing
opportunities globally for the industry. It was organized by TAITRA, the Taiwan External
Trade Development Council and the Taiwan Industrial Fasteners Institute, co-organized
by the Economic Development Bureau, Kaohsiung City, and sponsored by the Bureau of
Foreign Trade.
Different from other fastener shows in the world, the key feature of the Taiwan
International Fastener Show is to invite buyers to visit the factories directly after they visit
the show. Mr. Chen Ming-Zhao explained that buyers who plan to purchase high-class,
special fasteners with safety consideration, such as those used for trunk brake or bridge
building, won't place an order until they actually visit the factory. In order to accelerate
business deals, the organizer decides to condense the exhibition period to two days and
in this way reserve time for buyers to visit factories. Meanwhile, since most factories gather
within the range of 30-kilometer circumference, buyers are able to find all kinds of product
fitting their needs in one or two days and won't waste any time on travel.
According to Mr. Chen Ming-Zhao, The first show attracted more than 1,500 foreign
buyers from Japan, U.S.A., China, German, India, Poland, Brazil, Italy, among others, 70%
of which are new clients. After the show, there was a considerable proportion of buyers
keeping in touching with Taiwan's factories. Seeing that success of the first show, the
second Taiwan International Fastener Show will be held in March 13-14, 2012, "and we
welcome all of you to visit the show!"

Extending metals’ lifespan is our corecompetence
Founded in 2000, Taikyu Co., Ltd. develops and manufactures a
wide range of construction hardware with environmental protection
and “evolution of living” as its fundamental principles. We are fully
aware that nothing is more important than your safety, home and
property, and therefore Taikyu’s priority is to enhance quality of living
and security.
Taikyu manufactures metal fasteners in a coordinated process
by integrating our five business systems – screws, chemicals,
construction materials, machinery equipment and trade. Various
types of metal screws, hinges, doorknobs and locks are Taikyu’s
major products. Following many years of research and development,
Taikyu has proudly presented its unique anti-corrosion metal coat-
ing technology, which greatly extends the lifespan of metal fasteners
and reduces wastes of natural resources.
Taikyu’s metal fasteners have received ISO 9001, Japanese In-
dustrial Standards (JIS) and Japan’s construction technology review
certificates. Furthermore, they are recognized and recommended
by Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.
Taikyu provides custom-
ers with better quality
assurance in materials
processing, anti-corrosion
maintenance and quality
management. Meanwhile,
to offer the highest stan-
dard of security guaran-
tee, Taikyu’s construction

Experts in special fasteners, pursuing ablue ocean strategy in diverse markets
Established in March 1973, Ho Hong Works was initially primarily
focused on manufacturing of hex socket bolts. Once it had grown
sufficiently, the company reached out to the overseas market. Like
many other Taiwanese fastener manufacturers, Ho Hong’s first step
was to enter the US market. However, Ho Hong soon realized they it
was overly dependent on one market and a limited range of prod-
ucts, and so the company started to research new products and to
develop new sales channels. As it entered the Japanese market, Ho
Hong abandoned standard fastener products and instead focused
on high-value special fasteners such as bolts used for construction
projects and OEM parts. Today, sales in the Japanese market ac-
count for 60% of the company’s revenue.
Ho Hong has succeeded in its international blue market strategy
as a specialist producer of fastener products through a commitment
to research and business development. Ho Hong has maintained
an annual average defect rate of under 0.1% in the production
process and for finished products. With the rapid industrialization
of the BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India, and China) and other
emerging countries such as
in Southeast Asia, demand for
fastener products continues
to grow. Ho Hong hopes to
establish contacts with poten-
tial buyers from the emerging
countries through the Taiwan
International Fastener Show
in 2012.
Although the United States
and Europe are already major
purchasers of Taiwanese fastener products, there are still endless
business opportunities to be explored. Major trade shows present an
opportunity to show international buyers the competitive advantage
of Taiwanese made fasteners and the ability of the industry to deliver
customized services. However, Ho Hong’s primary goal at this show
is not simply to display its products, but to focus on technological
innovations, showcasing outstanding productive and technical ca-
pabilities in producing fasteners for construction, machinery, trucks,
and passenger vehicles, alluring potential buyers to the production
site to further discuss business opportunities.

One-stop solution for premium qualityand service
Lih Ta Fasteners Co.,
Ltd. was established in
1978 and its Taoyuan
factory is the only
manufacturing site in
Taiwan that provides
microscopic fasteners
for hard disc drives and
cleanroom packaging.
Fasteners produced in Lih Ta can be as small as 0.8mm to 3mm in
length. That size is tailored for the market trend towards micro-sized
electronic products. As for Lih Ta’s Kaohsiung factory, it focuses on
the production of customized fasteners and those used in the auto-
motive market, with many patented products certified by TS 16949
and many Tier 1 automotive assembly sites. Besides, Lih Ta has one
of the few Taiwanese heat-treatment production lines that conform
to AIAG CQI-9 quality assurance standard.
At the 2012 Taiwan International Fastener Show, Lih Ta will exhibit
its pierce nut , a special nut that can be pressed directly against the
match parts, therefore replacing the prevalent welding procedure
and reducing pollution caused in the production process. At present,
pierce nuts are not only welcomed by large American automobile
manufacturers, such as GM, Ford and Chrysler, but make an ap-
pearance in the eco-conscious European markets. Apart from the
automotive industry, electrical appliance manufacturers are also
adopting pierce nuts, rather than merely paying close attention.
Lih Ta’s patented series will be the focus of its exhibits at the
Fastener Show. Those special patented series include TRILOBULAR
Screws, MAThread, TORX PLUS, TORX and pierce nuts, which are
highly favored by large international companies. In addition, entering
the automobile market, Lih Ta has established a logistics company
and set up inventory warehouses globally to provide its customers
with timely after-sales service.
Despite its reputation as the “Kingdom of Fasteners”, Taiwan
has struggled to take a sizeable market share in the quality-driven
automobile market. As Lih Ta set up its Kaohsiung factory in 2005,
it positioned itself to manufacture higher value-added automotive
fasteners and customized fasteners. By taking part in the Taiwan
International Fastener Show, Lih Ta hopes to attract more clients
with an interest in high-quality automotive fasteners and contribute
to Taiwanese fastener industry.

Value partnerships to create a win-win situation
Established in 1973, Sheh Fung Screws Co., Ltd. has transformed
from a trader to a manufacturer. Different from the traditional man-
ufacturing industry’s concept of only “selling products,” Sheh Fung
clearly understands clients’ demand in the face of market competi-
tion thanks to its abundant trading experience. It has integrated
products’ manufacturing process to precisely control every detail
from wire materials, heading, pinch point, threading, heat treatment,
coating to packing. Vowing to become clients’ long-term partners,
Sheh Fung is devoted to helping customers attain competitive
advantages and sustainable development from product marketing,
R&D to operation management, so as to create a mutually beneficial
situation.
At the fastener show, Sheh Fung will exhibit its major products,
including self-drilling screws, wood screws, roofing screws, drywall
screws, chipboard screws, window screws and furniture screws.
In addition, it will showcase its newly developed fastener products
used for solar panels. The new products’ materials are different
from other screws and require higher manufacturing standards.
However, Sheh Fung has mass-
produced such new products
and generated massive sales
in Europe for two consecutive
years, underlying its strong
capabilities in manufacturing
and technological R&D.
As Sheh Fung’s fasteners are
mainly used in the construc-
tion industry, they must be
brightly colored to enhance the
buildings’ design values. More-
over, the products’ extreme
temperature durability and
anti-corrosion capability must meet certain criteria. Therefore, Sheh
Fung has particularly enhanced its coating technology.
With its third-generation surface coating technology, its products
all meet the requirement of anti-corrosion in a 2,000-hour salt spray
test. It aims at passing the 2,500-hour and 3,000-hour tests in the
future to better respond to different markets’ environmental require-
ments and frequent climate changes around the world.
Leading pre-applied anti-loosening and sealing technology
As specialists in pre-applied coating technology, Nylok Taiwan
adds value to fastener products. Nylok Taiwan is the only supplier
in Taiwan authorized by the leading global specialist in fastener
coatings Nylok US and omniTECHNIK, a major supplier of Precote
coating to the automobile industry. The company has established
facilities for the preparation of precote in both China and Taiwan. In
1984, the fastener coating service was introduced to Taiwan, and by
the early 1990s the product had successfully entered the electronic
product supply chain. As customers moved, Nylok Taiwan followed,
establishing plants in China in places where Taiwanese businesses
have clustered such as Dongguan and Kunshan. . The company
is currently exploring the possibility of investing in future sites in
Chongqing, Tianjin, and Xiamen. Striving to provide a complete
one-stop service solution, Nylok Taiwan seeks to serve customers
wherever they are.
In response to customer requirements for industrial fasteners,
Nylok Taiwan has developed cutting-edge coating technology that
delivers six main features: anti-loosening, sealing, paint deposit
prevention, weld splatter prevention, lubrication, and anti-seizure.
The company has been certified
by NASA and several leading
international car manufacturers.
The Nylok, Precote, 3M, and Loctite
product series, incorporating these
six functions, will be displayed at
the upcoming trade show, along
with newly developed technology
that has recently been approved
by automotive manufacturers. The simultaneous operation of CCD
cameras and other testing equipment during the coating process
ensures the quality and functionality of Nylok Taiwan products.
At present, Nylok Taiwan primarily supplies precote fasteners to
the car industry, which emphasizes safety and quality, as well as to
the electronics industry, which requires thin and light products. Ny-
lok and precote products are used in many industries and by many
world-renowned brands, including leading carmakers such as VW,
Toyota, GM, Ford, BMW and Mercedes Benz and manufacturers of
fashionable smart phones such as Apple and HTC, as well as in flat
panel computers and ultra-thin notebooks. The greater the demand
for quality, the more use they have for Nylok Taiwan products. The
importance of Nylok Taiwan in the industry is clear.

Premium services that integratetechnology, quality and efficiency
Thread Industrial Co., Ltd. which started its business by manu-
facturing screw nuts in 1987, has diversified its production lines
to offer nuts, bolts and small screws of multiple specifications in
recent years to better meet customer needs. Take the cold-forming
nuts for instance, Thread has developed a wide range of product
specifications from M6 to M33 so as to expand its market and avoid
price wars with small competitors. Further, to maximize operational
efficiency, Thread set up Extend Forming Industrial Co., Ltd in Taiwan
to specialize in the production and research of auto parts and
hydraulic fittings, while establishing factories in Vietnam to derive
benefits from international division of labor.
At the 2012 Taiwan International Fastener Show, Thread is proud
to present its primary products – the auto fasteners it prioritized in
recent years, the construction fasteners well received by Japanese
clients, and industrial fasteners applied in the precision machinery
sector. These products are characterized by a high degree of preci-
sion and exquisite shapes rarely seen, as Thread adopts the cold-
forming process, different from the hot-forming process used by
other suppliers. In addition, considering clients have to purchase
products from different suppliers as the fastener industry is char-
acterized by a high level of division of labor, Thread is developing
to provide the "one-stop shopping" service by offering diversified
products and customization.
Surely, this goal is not easy to achieve. Thread has devoted itself
to technology research, strict quality control and improved produc-
tion process. After acquiring the ISO-9001:2000 certification in 2002,
Thread and its subsidiary Extend Forming won the TS16949 certifi-
cation in 2006 and 2007, respectively. All these efforts are made to
ensure excellent quality, fair prices and fast delivery.

screws. It will
also present
long screws, which it developed and started marketing in recent
years, and precision screws applicable to mechanical and medical
equipment. These customized products are all manufactured follow-
ing Jau Yeou’s strict production plan, which takes into account every
detail from the fastener’s intended usage, its applications to local
markets’ regulations and environment.
The following issues, for example, are thoroughly studied. How
many seconds does it take to insert the product into the target
material with electric aids? How much torque and hardness does it
require to form mating threads within such a short period of time?
How to design the fasteners’ head, body and end to conform to the
intended usage and achieve the optimal state? None of these details
shall be omitted. After the samples are produced, they have to pass
various tests before being delivered to customers. The products
would then be repeatedly tested and improved in accordance with
clients’ feedback to attain complete customer satisfaction.
Due to its professional quality tracking and production analysis,
Jau Yeou has become a reputable manufacturer in the customiza-
tion market. Looking forward, Jau Yeou will expand to the even more
demanding fields of aerospace and automotive fasteners so as to
fully employ Jau Yeou’s precise production and R&D capabilities.

Booth No.K408U Queen Machinery Co., Ltd. Micro-forming process leads fastenerproduction to the level of fine works
U Queen Machinery Co., Ltd. was founded in 2010 by Fu Wei
Machinery, a company with 30 years of experience in manufacturing
fastener-forming machines. Originally a provider of ordinary screws,
Fu Wei started to invest in R&D of micro screw
devices in 2001 as compactness and lightness were
becoming major trends in the electronic industry. In
2004, it successfully developed the micro-forming
machine, capable of producing screws
of 0.8mm for the 3C industry. It
marks a major step in the company’s
development toward high-tech micro
products.
Inheriting its mother com-
pany’s established experience
and technologies, U Queen
specializes in the specifications
under 1.2mm so as to differ-
entiate itself from competitors,
which mainly focus on devices
that produce screws of around
3mm. U Queen's latest automatic screw forming machine can take
wires with diameters from 0.5mm to 6mm. With these innovation
breakthroughs, U Queen is posed to lead the fastener industry for-
ward to create the refined level of works.
At the 2012 fastener show, U Queen will exhibit its 2-die, 3-blow
micro cold-forming machine. Widely acclaimed by Western suppli-
ers, the machine is capable of manufacturing fasteners for cellular
phones and digital cameras. It will also showcase its 6-die, 6-blow
micro cold-forming machine, capable of manufacturing fasteners for
electric terminals and contacts. These two models included, all of U
Queen's micro-forming equipment have the same unique advantage
of being able to manufacture all kinds of micro fasteners while
ensuring a high degree of stability and precision. The key lies in the
automatic quality control test the machines implement during the
production process. Once the product produced fails to meet the
standard set by customers, the machine immediately stops operat-
ing to prevent defective products from dropping onto the product
line, thereby guaranteeing the best output performance and product
quality.
U Queen’s new products will soon enter the market after adjust-
ment and testing in the final stage. For U Queen, R&D is an ever-
ongoing process. Only with a lead before fastener customers will U
Queen be able to provide the best services.

Established in 1980, Tycoons
Group Ent. Co., Ltd. specializes in
the manufacture and marketing
of wire rods, annealing products,
screws and bolts. To achieve
the best management efficiency and provide total solutions to
customers, Tycoons has implemented vertical integration, bringing
the entire supply chain into its conglomerate group from producing

tion.
In the case of screw production, screws of different types and
applications require different materials. As a wire rod manufacturer,
Tycoons can adjust the composition at the raw material end to
ensure the best quality while providing tailor-made wires for the
production of specific screws. The products’ defect rate is therefore
greatly lowered. Meanwhile, its highly integrated production chain
from upstream to downstream guarantees the product supply even
when an imbalance between supply and demand occurs. Custom-
ers can also enjoy the price advantage from its one-stop-shopping
mechanism with large quantity.Prioritizing clients’ need, Tycoons chooses its most suitable plants
to manufacture products. For example, as the EU imposes anti-
dumping duties on the fastener products manufactured in China,
Tycoons plans to shift European clients’ orders to its factories in
Thailand to reduce tariffs and transportation charges. This would
greatly help clients maintain their advantages and competitiveness.
