GENERAL INFORMATION & CALCULATIONS
6.625" O.D. GAS & CONDENSATE SALESLINE
SOUTH MARSH ISLAND BLOCK 280 TO SOUTH MARSH ISLAND BLOCK 268
1. The water depth along the proposed pipeline route and in relationship to the natural bottom i s set forth on the attached PLAT. Water depth i s (-) 36' MSL at the proposed Platform South Marsh Island Block 280 and (-) 32' MSL at Placid's "A" Platform, South Marsh Island Block 268.
2. The description of the pipe and coating i s as follows:
a. Line Pipe: 6.625" O.D. x .280" W.T., API 5L Grade B seamless; bare weight = 18.98# per foot. Coated with 12-14 mils of Scotchkote 205 fusion bonded epoxy. Specific-gravity in seawater (empty) = 1.25. Welded joints w i l l be protected with heat shrinkable sleeves.
b. Riser Pipe: 6.625" O.D. x .432" W.T. API 5L Grade B seamless. Bare weight = 28.58# per foot. Coated with 12-14 mils Scotchkote 205 fusion bonded epoxy and 1/4 splash-tron at +/" 2 0 MSL.
c. Internal Coating. The analysis of transported products w i l l be monitored.
3. The proposed salesline i s approximately 8,285 feet long. This does not include the +/- 94' of r i s e r piping at the platform. The line w i l l transport natural gas and condensate.
4. Valves and flanges on the proposed platform w i l l be 600# ANSI.
5. The design of the proposed saleslines and r i s e r s i s in accordance with the DOT T i t l e 49, Part 192, API RP 14E and 30 CFR Part 250 Subpart J .
6. The cathodic protection system for the pipeline w i l l use zinc tapered semi-cylindrical bracelet anodes. Calculations are as follows:
a. Anticipated line l i f e i s 20 years.
b. Assumed maximum of 2% bare pipe.
c. Current 5 MA/sq. f t .
d. 26 #/amp year
e. Anode spacing calculations:
Area/mile = 5280~ft:/iniT x 3.14 x i6i625)/12 f t .
= 9153 sq. f t . / m i .
Amps = 9153 sq. f t / mi. x .02 x .005 A/sq.ft.
= .9153 amps/mi.
Line l i f e = .9153 A/mi. x 20 = 18.31 amp yr./mi.
#/mile = 18.31 amp yr/mi. x 26 #/amp y r .
= 476.1 #/mile
Anode spacing = (476.1 #/mi.)/80# = 5.95/mi.f 887 f t .
Use one (1) 80# every 500 fe e t .
7. The design pressure f o r the l i n e pipe and r i s e r :
a. Riser:
t = PD/2S P = i n t e r n a l design
pressure = 1440 psig
= 1440 x 6.625 /(2 x 17,500) t = w a l l thickness, inches
= .273 + 1/16" C.A. S = SMYS X .5 = 17,500
= .335 D = nominal outside
diameter = 6.625"
Use 6.625" O.D. x .432" W.T. API 5L Grade B seamless
Hydrostatic t e s t pressure:
I n accordance with.API 14E
HTP = 1.5 x MAOP
= 1.5 X 1440 = 2160 PSIG
b. Line Pipe:
t = PD/2S P = i n t e r n a l design
pressure = 1440 psig
= 1440 x 6.625 /(2 x 25,200) t = wa l l thickness, inches
= .189 + 1/16" C.A. S = SMYS X .72 = 25,200
= .252 D = nominal outside diameter = 6.625"
Use 6.625" O.D. x .280" W.T. API 5L Grade B seamless Hydrostatic t e s t pressures
In accordance w i t h DOT T i t l e 49, Part 192
HTP = 1.25 x MAOP + external pressure
= 1.25 X 1440 + 35 f t . X (1.02)/2.31 p s i / f t .
= 1815 PSIG (use 2160 PSIG - same as r i s e r )
8. The hydrostatic t e s t w i l l be conducted i n accordance w i t h applicable regulations. Test duration w i l l be eight hours. The t e s t pressure i s less than 90% of the hoop stress using the steel's SMYS.
9. The s p e c i f i c g r a v i t y of the l i n e pipe was calculated as follows:
The l i n e pipe weighs 18.98 Ibs/LF
The pipe displaces D /4 x 12/1728 x 62.4 x 1.02 = 15.23 lbs w a t e r / f t
Specific g r a v i t y f l o w l i n e = 18.98/15.23 =1.25
The weight of coatings, anodes, and other materials was not considered i n these c a l c u l a t i o n s .
10. The design capacity of the f l o w l i n e i s approximately 30 MMSCFD gas and 900 BCPD.
Specific g r a v i t y of condensate = 50 API and .65 f o r gas.
11. The proposed flowine w i l l t i e - i n at the 22" Trunkline Pipeline South Marsh Island Block 268. (Placid "A" Platform)
12. Overpressuring of the salesline shall be prevented by the following method. The pipeline shall have both high and low limits. High limits-shall beset no higher than 10% above operating pressure and in no case above the maximum rated pipeline pressure. The low pressure shut-in shall activate no lower than 10% below the operating pressure. The effect of any pressure exceeding either limit wi l l be the automatic and orderly shutdown of a l l pressure sources on the platform.
