The Fall season is upon us, and the cooler temperatures and beautiful scenery provide a great opportunity to enjoy motoring in our classic automobiles with family and friends! And speaking of opportunities, the upcoming sale of the Bob McDorman Collection on November 6th represents a very rare opportunity to either begin or add to your current collection. Mecum will offer the final 150 cars from the world’s greatest Chevrolet collector at No Reserve… this auction will feature Chevrolets produced as early as 1915 and will include the world’s most complete Corvette collection, as well as neon signs, memorabilia, and vintage parts. Among the cars to be sold are 11 serial #1 Corvettes, Bunkie Knudsen’s 1963 Sting Ray and many celebrity cars. Mecum’s Kansas City event at Bartle Hall has been expanded from two days to three, and some of the early consignments are featured in this newsletter. Look for 750 vehicles to be offered for sale at this HD Theater televised event, broadcast from the spacious and climate controlled interior of one of the finest facilities in the country. And just one month later … Mecum will present the largest January auction in the U.S. -- Kissimmee 2011! Mecum will offer 1500 to 2000 classic and vintage automobiles for this epic, week long (Jan 26-30) gathering “East of the Mississippi”. Hope to seen you in Ohio, Missouri, and Florida!

A rare 1969 Pontiac GTO Judge Convertible topped the list of cars sold during the Mecum St. Charles Auction, Sept. 16-19, 2010, at Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles, Illinois. More than 950 collector cars went up for bid on the Mecum auction block during the four-day event, which had a 56% sell-through rate. Total gross sales (excluding buyer’s premium) were $13.1 million. “We are very proud of the success of our St. Charles auction, which boasted more cars and higher sales than last year’s event and drew an enthusiastic crowd to bid on these high-quality vehicles,” said President Dana Mecum. “From the top-selling triple Black GTO Judge to a 1968 Chevrolet pickup owned by Jordanaires musician Ray Walker - who rubbed elbows with such celebrities as Elvis Presley, Don Gibson and Chuck Howard - there were numerous vehicles for car lovers to enjoy.”

Telling Your Car’s Story...MECUM101

personal association with the car, and a true story often allows the automobile to bring more money when it crosses the auction block. As long as your story is accurate, a potential buyer would be pleased to hear that you bought the car for your spouse who only drove it on Sunday afternoons… or you purchased the car from your cousin because it was a good buy and you planned to make a little money on the car. One paragraph about why you bought the car and what makes it a great car can go a long way. So reach deep into your memory bank the next time you consign a car with Mecum and do your best to present an honest story about the great times you and your family have experienced behind the wheel of your collector car. M

Many collector cars have factory documents, such as a protect-o-plate or a window sticker, that increase an automobile’s value because of the story behind the documents. Significant because they document the vehicle’s heritage, these documents are transformed into a part of the car’s history and are highlighted as bullet points when the car crosses the auction block. The reason these documents can add value to the automobile is because they are part of its history. And buyers like to learn about a car’s history, even if it’s just the history that you have with the car. When you consign an automobile for auction with Mecum, you have the opportunity to write the car’s story. The key here is to enhance rather than embellish the history of your car. The fact is that buyers enjoy learning honest information about your

More Cars and More TV at KCFeaturing a record 750 collector cars expected to cross the auction block, the Mecum Kansas City Auction, which takes place Dec. 2-4, 2010, at the Kansas City Convention Center/Bartle Hall in Kansas City, Mo. is already highlighted by great consignments, including a rare 1957 Ford Thunderbird F Code Convertible. One of just 212 factory supercharged models produced for 1957, this multiple award-winning “F Bird” features a full nut and bolt frame off restoration. MEET THE MECUM TEAM

KELLY MRKVICKA began her career with Mecum in 1998 and started full time after graduating from Northern Illinois University in 2002. As our Bidder Manager, Kelly helps buyers with bidder registration, sends out our bidder mailings, and answers questions about the bidding process. At the auction sites, she sets up the bidder information booths, manages the onsite staff and establishes an efficient system to help bidders register. Kelly is delighted when customers tell her how much they enjoyed our service and the entire Mecum Auction experience. After working for the auction house for over a decade, Kelly truly admires how the Mecums always put family first, which she believes is the secret to their success. M

MATT MORAVEC grew up in a car auction family, accompanying his father to auctions since he was a youngster. In 2001, Matt joined Mecum Auction as a ringman and debuted as an auctioneer at the 2009 Indianapolis sale. An avid outdoorsman, Matt likes to hunt and fish when not occupied with the three dealer auctions he works in Nebraska and Iowa full time. Matt contributes his dedication to Mecum Auction in part to the great relationships he has built over the years. He told us, “The camaraderie among the Mecum staff makes coming to each auction like a family reunion for me.” M

DENNIS VAN BUREN first met Dana Mecum in 1981 at the greater Chicago auto auction. After striking a deal on a Black 1980 Corvette, Dana came to visit Dennis at his used car dealership in Fond du lac, Wisconsin and an instant friendship was formed. Dennis recalls buying five cars at the very first Mecum Auction in Rockford, Illinois. Since the 2006 Kissimmee Auction, Dennis has worked as our Vehicle Check-in Greeter. He enjoys meeting every Mecum customer with a warm welcome and vital auction information. Dennis and his wife, Catherine (also a member of the Mecum team) take pleasure in meeting new people and reuniting with old friends at each Mecum event. M
