EditorialDear Readers,

Nagpur has been selected as a base for the state’s third National Investment and Manufacturing Zones(NIMZ). The proposed NIMZ area is situated in Kuhi and Umred Taluka of Nagpur district and has an area of 6280 hectares. It is slated to attract investment of approx. INR 25,000 crores and will provide gainful direct and indirect employment to 2,60,000 people of the Nagpur district. Prior to this, the state government has already started work in Dighi in Raigad district and Shendra, in the Aurangabad district for setting up industrial townships. The zones at Dighi and Shendra fall under the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor project. NIMZs will benefit companies in many ways, such as exemption from capital gains tax, liberalised labour laws and environment norms.

In this edition , we have given profiles on various parameters of the state. Such parameters would include a district profilefor the Jalgaon district, an industrial profile for Indapur and a profile on the special economic zone of Kesurdi. These profiles give you an insight for your strategic investment plan for the state. Also, in this edition we have included articles on launch of Nagpur as the new NIMZ, how Maharashtra is slated to become power surplus by the end of this year, the visit of a Korean delegation to Maharashtra and the contribution of MIDC in the state’s growth.

MIDC has completed 50 years of its inception on Aug 1, 2012. It gives me immense pleasure to state that I was a part of such an illustrious organization for more than three years. It is the largest IDC of the country, with most industrial estates and highest amount of acquired land. It also has one of the largest water supply schemes of Asia amongst other major features. It has received several laurels and awards from the various organizations of the country for digitizing the MIDC processes. I wish that MIDC continues to act as a catalyst in the industrial growth of the state and provide handholding assistance to the investor community in formulating their investment strategies for the state.

We hope that these articles are informative and give you a vivid picture of the state’s industrial growth trajectory.

Jalgaon district is located in North-west region of the state of Maharashtra. Jalgaon city is the headquarter of Jalgaon district. Jalgoan was earlier the part of ‘Khandesh’. In 1906 when Khandesh was divided, east Khandesh became present day Jalgaon. Jalgaon is famous for Banana plantations, experiments in modern agriculture and drip irrigation, excellent rail infrastructure. Jalgaon is part of Nashik division of Maharashtra.

Jalgaon is laid between 20° to 21° North Latitude & 74.55° to 76.28° East Longitude and is bounded on the north by Satpuda hills, on the south by Aurangabad & Nashik, on the east by Buldhana & Madhya Pradesh. Jalgaon consist of 15 talukas (tehsils). These talukas are Jalgaon, Jamner, Erandol, Dharngaon, Bhusaval, Bodwad, Yawal, Raver, Muktainagar, Amalner, Chopda, Parola, Pachora, chalisgaon, Bhadgaon.

Major urban centres of Jalgaon are Jalgaon, Bhusaval, Kandari, Varangaon, Nimbore, Fekari, Chopda, Chalisgaon, Amalner, Yawal, Faizpur, Raver, Savada, Parola, Erandol, Dharangaon.

Jalgaon has 2 lok sabha constituencies – Jalgaon and Raver & 11 Vidhan sabha constituencies- Chopda, Raver, Bhusaval, Jalgaon urban, Jalgaon rural, Amalner, Erandole, Chalisgaon, Pachora, Jamner and Muktainagar.

DemographyAs of 2011 India census, Jalgaon had a population of 42.24 Lakhs. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Population density is 313/ sq.km. Jalgaon has a sex ratio of 922 females per thousand males.

GeographyThe weather in the district is extreme and dry, with mild cold winters and extreme hot summers. The Satpura hill range spans the northern border of the district and is densely forested. It is here in the Yawal taluka that a sanctuary has been developed. The sanctuary is home to deer and Nilgai (blue bull). The agricultural development in this district has been possible because of the abundance of water. Tapi is the main river in the district, emerging from Madhya Pradesh. Unlike the other rivers that flow from the Western Ghats into the Bay of Bengal, this river flows towards the west into the Arabian Sea. The district has successfully attempted a river-linking project that has made available water for agriculture and drinking. In the heavy rainfall of 2005-06 the overflow of the Girna Dam in Nashik district. But this overflowing water of the Girna dam was channelized in Bori, Bhokarbari,Mhasava and other dams of Jalgaon district. The Girna River was connected with Titur, Bori and Anjani rivers and water was diverted and released in these rivers which resulted in good water storage increasing water table. Although there was very less rainfall in the district, 700 medium and small dams, K.T. weir, village

tanks and percolation tanks were filled and more than 16,000 water wells were recharged because of this river connectivity. This project proved beneficial and successful in Jalgaon district.

Agriculture:- Jalgaon district produces 16% of the total banana production in India. It is also one of the world’s highest producers of bananas. As per the Maharashtra State Banana Producers Co-operative Federation (Maha Banana), of the total area under Banana cultivation in the State, 66% (49,000 hectare) is in Jalgaon district. The plan to set up an export centre of bananas is underway at Raver. Raver and Yawal talukas are especially famous for the production of bananas.

After bananas, cotton is another important crop in the district from an economic perspective. Cotton is grown on 1/5th of the total cultivated land in the district. Jamner, Chopda, Erandole, Pachora and Bhusawal are the important cotton producing talukas.

IndustriesSeveral Co-operative sugar factories are located in Kasode, Erandol, Faizpur, Yaval, Muktainagar, Chopda, Gondkhel, Jamner, Bhoras, Chalisgaon. A large cartridge production at Warangaon in Bhusaval taluka, thermal electricity generation plant of 482.5 MW capacity at Fekri near Bhusaval, Pimprale in Jalgaon taluka also has a synthetic silk cloth mill.Raymond, Marico, Jain Pipes, VIP, Supreme pipes, Orient Cement, Nilons, Wipro FMCG, Kwality Ice Cream are prominent entrepreneurs located in Jalgaon.

The proposed NIMZ area is situated in Kuhi and Umred Taluka of Nagpur district and has an area of 6280 hectares. It will attract investment of approx. APEDA already has a full fledged office at Mumbai which has been functioning since 1990. In the States where APEDA does not have a physical office, its activities are conducted in conjunction with the respective state Governments, through virtual offices.

He also announced Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme(TUFS) has been extended for the 12th five year Plan. “ There will be more allocation under the 12th plan than under the 11th plan, so "those in textiles sector must feel assured that the government is conscious what their needs are” said Shri Sharma

Maharashtra all set to become power surplus

Power

The Maharashtra government is taking pro-active measures in tackling the power situation in the state. As of now, nearly 70% of the state is free of load shedding. The state government's target is to make the entire state load shedding free by December this year. Some of the steps taken in this direction are as explained as below:

Capacity Addition:Through thermal power generation, projects of 9750 MW capacity expansion is proposed by MAHAGENCO in the 12th FYP. These plants are expected to be commissioned by the year 2012 end. Therefore, the state should become power surplus by this year end. Also, new schemes of renewable energy are being explored which would meet the future needs of the industrial energy demands. These would include wind, solar, biomass, biogas, tidal, geo-thermal, etc. sources of energy.

Energy conservation:The state has devised certain schemes for energy schemes which should greatly reduce the energy shortage concerns. For example, in ‘Biomass Briquetting Scheme’ , all types of agriculture and forestry waste is converted into solid cylindrical shaped logs which can be further used as non-conventional fuel. There are 15 such projects which have been implemented so far.
