Of this , Maharashtra accounts for 18.4% ofoutput by value. Maharashtra has attracted highestFDI in this sector. This newsletter will give a glimpse of the NagpurDistrict. Nagpur is the winter capital of Maharashtra.The district is home to many multinational belongingto key sectors such as textile, food processing , ITDefence , Steel.. The newsletter throws light on theopportunities available in the district to invest in keysectors.

MIDC has always believed in having continuousinteraction and feedback with the industries. In thismonth, we had many interactive session with theindustry and foreign delegates.

MIDC had organized a textile seminar to showcasethe strength of the textile industry in the state. Thestate is taking huge steps in the building industrialinfrastructure for textile sector. New textile parks inthe Vidharbha region are being built to give boostthe sector and develop the economically backwardregions of the state. This newsletter will cover the

event in detail.

Index

Pharmaceutical sales in India have reached morethan USD 14 billion in the past five years. TheIndian pharmaceutical market increased atCAGR of 12.79 per cent in 2015 from USD 6billion in 2005 and is expected to expand at aCAGR of 15.92 per cent to USD 55 billion in2020.By 2020, India is likely to be among the topthree pharmaceutical markets by incrementalgrowth and sixth largest market globally inabsolute size. The total cost of production in Indiais significantly lower than that of US and Europewhich gives it a competitive edge. Therefore,India received cumulative FDI inflow of INR 10.1billion through 121 projects during August 1991 toMarch 2012.

Maharashtra accounts for 18.4 per cent of thecountry’s pharmaceutical output by value.Pharmaceutical is one of the key export sectorfrom the state. The state has the highest numberof US FDA approved plants in India and highestnumber of pharmaceutical units. The state alsohouses the country’s leading pharmaceuticalcompanies such as Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson,GlaxoSmithkline, Glenmark, Abott and SunPharmaceutical Industries . The state has welldeveloped laboratory , research and developmentinfrastructure and a strong resource pool

A strategy is being drawn to increase bulk drug manufacturing inthe country and to reduce import dependence on China that meets70-80% of India’s bulk drug requirement. In addition, a new policyfor the sector may also be announced

The Government of India (GOI) is looking at reviving sick pharmaunits, especially those located in Pune and Nagpur

To enable availability of qualified and skilled doctors and otherpersonnel, the government announced setting up ofvarious institutes in the country including a National Institute ofPharmaceuticals Education and Research in Maharashtra

A high Powered Committee was also set up to look into areas fordomestic manufacturing of APIs. The Committee has recommendeddeveloping pharma parks equipped with adequate testing and commonfacilities and the government is looking at establishing the same

Government of Maharashtra InitiativesPackage scheme of incentives for new industrial units/expansion units instate’s developing regions awarded to pharmaceuticals and biotechnologyunits. For mega/ultra mega projects, incentives will be decided by highpower committee. State offers additional incentives for industrial projects inareas such as:

• Subsidized land cost• Investment subsidies/tax incentives• Subsidies for backward areas• Relaxation in stamp duty• Incentives for power tariff and electricity duty• Concessional rate of interest on loans etc.

District Focus: Nagpur

• Nagpur is the headquarter of the Nagpur division, which is theeasternmost division in the state

• It is the winter capital of Maharashtra

• Nagpur district is bounded by Bhandara district on the east,Chandrapur district on the southeast, Wardha district on thesouthwest, Amravati district on the northwest and Chhindwara districtof Madhya Pradesh state on the north.

• The district has one of the highest literacy rates in the state

Road

Nagpur is major junction with two major national highwaysNH6 and NH7 are connected to major industrial areas andtourist places. The proposed Nagpur- Mumbaiexpressway will significantly reduce the travel timebetween the two cities.

Physical and Social Infrastructure

Railways

Nagpur is the divisional headquarter for Central Railwaysand South Eastern Central Railway Zone. The length ofthe railway routes in the district is about 354 km. Nagpuris advantageously situated on Mumbai – Kolkata rail linkand Delhi – Chennai trunk route affording easymovement of goods

Airport

Nagpur has an International Airport and a Multi ModalInternational Cargo Hub at MIHAN. It has well connectedflights to other major cities of the country. It is the first airportin country to be ISO 27000 certified

• Nagpur is also one of the largest cotton producingregion of the state

• In addition, orange, lemon , sweet lime ,pineapple , and tomato processing units arebeing setup in the first food park ofMaharashtra in Butibori MIDC

Maharashtra Updates: Investment Plans/ Initiatives / Events

In a major bid to boost the textile sector, the state government hasapproved nine new textile parks throughout the state. Of this, two are inVidarbha, and the rest in Marathwada and Jalgaon district of northMaharashtra.

Hon’able Chief Minister said the state has identified 10 viable districts onthe availability of cotton on the basis of which the textile parks are beingformed. The industry will always have a growth potential as demand forgarments is never going to die down. He said that in Nandgaopeth landhas been allotted for 12 projects with a total investment of Rs2,603 croreand an estimated job creation for 6200 persons. Out of these, onecompany Shyam Indo Fab has already gone into production with aninvestment of Rs273 crore and 500 jobs

Hon’ble Minsiter Mr Subhash Desai said that new parks will be built inVidarbha include those in Yavatmal and Buldhana,The state already hasa textile park at Nandgaopeth in Amravati district. Apart from this, anintegrated textile park is being set up in Hinghanghat as part of a centralgovernment scheme

The state has attracted investment to the tune of INR 40,000 crore in thetextile sector during the last 4-5 years.

Mr.Apurva Chandra , Principcal Secretary (Industries) , GoM said that thegovernment is planning to bring all the concession available to theindustry under one control
