The Palacio de Linares is a 19th century architectural ‘jewel’ in the centre of Madrid. This remarkable palace, home to the Marquis of Linares, dates back to 1872. European in style, the palace was designed by the best architects of the day and decorated by internationally renowned Spanish painters. The materials used to build the palace were imported from different parts of the world, thus making it a supreme example of European decorative art.

Discover its famous staircase, the main bedroom, the library or the ballroom with its antechambers. Walk along the corridors decorated with embroidered tapestries or the galleries hung with Pompeyan oil paintings and avail of this once-in- a-lifetime opportunity to visit this marvellous palace.

His compositions are known around the world and he has received numerous prizes and awards throughout his career.

Ses compositions sont connues dans le monde entier et il a reçu de nombreux prix et distinctions tout au long de sa carrière.

A teacher is a role model for their students. Not just by sharing knowledge, but also by sharing values, passion and waking students’ innate desire to learn.

Just as a conductor of an orchestra leads and gets the best out of their musicians, a teacher encourages and inspires their students, helping them make the most of their potential.

Un enseignant est un modèle pour ses élèves. Il transmet non seulement des connaissances, mais aussi des valeurs, en partageant sa passion, éveille le désir inné d’apprendre des élèves.

Steven McGuire is Director of Teacher Training at

International House Madrid. He is

responsible for in-service professional

development, encouraging

innovation and more effective approaches to

teaching. He feels passionate about using technology more

effectively in class and involving students more in their learning.

Gareth Rees

is an English language teacher at University of the Arts London, an ELT author and a filmmaking tutor at Beijing Academy of the

Creative Arts. Pedagogic

interests include

authentic materials,

video, classroom

dynamics and intercultural

competences. As an author, he has worked for British Airways,

BBC Learning English and Macmillan Publishers, and

was a producer for www.teachingenglish.org.

Amandine Quétel a été enseignante FLE et coordinatrice pédagogique dans plusieurs Alliances Françaises et Institut Français en Espagne, au Mexique et à Sainte Lucie, avant de devenir formatrice de formateurs FLE. Elle a suivi des études supérieures de langues étrangères puis s’est spécialisée dans l’ingénierie pédagogique avec un Master FLE à l’Université de Nantes. Depuis 2017, elle est formatrice de formateurs et dispense des formations sur des thèmes variés à destination des enseignants de français à travers le monde. Elle collabore également avec les Éditions Maison des Langues en tant qu’auteure et formatrice.

Carol Read

has over 30 years’ experience in ELT. Her main specialisation is in early years and primary language teaching. Carol’s publications include award-winning titles such as 500 Activities in the Primary Classroom and Tiger. Her latest publication is a new pre-school course, Big Wheel. What emergent thinking skills are young children capable of? What pedagogical strategies can we use to integrate high-quality thinking in pre-primary and primary language programmes? This talk explores these questions from theoretical and practical perspectives and provides a toolkit of flexible ideas to develop language and thinking in enjoyable, age-appropriate ways.

Steven McGuire. Exploiting video

Our students watch lots of video on social media, TV and cinema. It’s a compelling medium and one we should use more to provide a rich context for language. In this workshop, we’ll briefly discuss the pros and cons of using video and I’ll demonstrate a range of activities which exploit videos from our course books and freely available on YouTube. This will be practical session with lots of ready-to-use ideas.

Gareth Rees. Press PLAY, but don’t press STOP: Moving from the video lesson to a video ecology

I discuss how video is featured in the English Hub course book, and then explore ideas for how we can fully embed video into the ecology of the language classroom, perhaps as fully as the written word, in ways that are achievable and straightforward. These ideas come, in part, from my teaching practice: English language, intercultural communication skills and filmmaking.

Amandine Quétel. Agir en français : des alternatives numériques ?

Est-il possible de faire coïncider deux mondes ? Celui des adolescents ayant les yeux rivés sur leurs dispositifs numériques avec celui de la classe où nous, enseignant(e)s, cherchons à ce que nos élèves agissent en français en leur proposant sans cesse des projets et défis. L’utilisation des nouvelles technologies, par exemple des smartphones, peut être une des clés pour trouver des terrains d’entente entre les centres d’intérêts des adolescents et nos objectifs pédagogiques. Dans cet atelier nous réfléchirons à l’importance des tâches dans l’apprentissage selon la perspective actionnelle et nous découvrirons ensemble différents chemins à suivre pour qu’une même tâche soit réalisée en support traditionnel et/ou numérique.
