pilgrimage to Sabarimalai,about 4000 devotees took partin the maalai function on Nov.16 (the first day of Kaarthigaimonth) in Sri AyyappanTemple (89, Ponnambalam

The temple is open on alldays from 3.30 a.m to 11.30a.m and from 5.30 p.m to 9p.m.

Pooja items including maalai,dhoti, shirt and towel which are

needed to be worn for pilgrimageto Sabarimalai are availablein the temple.

Annadhanam is conducteddaily at 9 a.m during theSabarimalai season.

Free medical camp is alsoconducted at 3 p.m on Sundays.

sons from MGR Nagar (K. K.Nagar), Saidapet, Velacheryand Taramani staged a pro-test outside Taluk office(Bharadhidasan Colony, K.KNagar) on Nov 6., demand-ing token for free distribu-tion of dhotis and sarees forDiwali.

They claimed that they heldvalid ration cards and theirnames were left out during theverification conducted in theirareas.

Police personnel and officialsof Taluk office were seen paci-fying the protesters.

I had been wondering about who the author of the mostselling and telling point in the tourism campaign inKerala was during the good old Chief MinisterE.K.Nayanar’s reign.

Today, when I was reading the Malayalam magazineVanitha, dated 1-5-2012, I learnt that it was the presentKerala Chief Secretary, the handsome K.Jayakumarwho, as the then Tourism Secretary, assisted by theprofessional group of “Mudra” hit gold in seducing peopleto come to Kerala with the “GOD’S OWN COUNTRY”manthra even though Nayanar, as a true bloodedcommunist CM, had doubts about friend God. CMs havecome and gone, but the seduction has remained perma-nent. Hats off to the all rounder Jayakumar, who is apoet, novelist, painter, film song writer, translator and,to top it all, apolitical. As Shakespeare said somewhere,“When comes such another!”

Jayakumar has indicated that he wants to produce afilm based on “Gitanjali” and, pending that grand show,to exhibit all over the world the fifteen pictures he hasalready painted of the soul of Gitanjali.

This book rings a bell for I had given Lakshmi an oldcopy of Gitanjali along with the gift of my life on ourwedding night on 5-3-1963, with the immortal endorse-ment - “Make your life a beautiful song, sung in devotionto the invisible”. (Sadanand is probably the only personin history who presented a book to the bride on thewedding night! - Editor)

Chief Secretary Jayakumar, being a poet, made itsound better than Tagore could with his Nobel Prizewinning effort. India is safe as long as we have multiplesof Jayakumars. Amen.
