1.Lisbon in the Top 29 cities to visitOften described as Portugal’s very own Rio, with the same sticky nights, urbansophistication and pulsing nightlife, Lisbon is a fitting capital for Spain’s sexy neighbor…

But it’s the city’s long-standing oldies that really cement Lisbon’s growing reputation as a foodie hot spot…

When it comes to clubs, Lisbon excels at two types: grubby live-music hangouts such as Musicbox, Paradise Garage and Maxime, and glamour-puss trance temples such as Lux, Kapital and Kremlin. Nothing gets going until after 2 a.m., so enjoy leisurely days, languid dinners, late-night partying, and a distinctly Lisbon way of life.

3.The VFM Awards — The Best City in Europe: Lisbon

• The June 2011 issue of The Sunday Times Travel magazine features its annual list of what it calls the “VFM Awards.”

• That’s where it highlights the most affordable places in the world that are also quite rewarding travel experiences (VFM stands for “Value For Money”).

• In the European category, the “best city” was Lisbon. Described as a “sexy-sultry” destination, this is the second year in a row that it’s been singled out in this category, and 2011′s biggest competitor was second-place Berlin.

4.The Academy of Urbanism Awards Lisbon, City of the Year 2012

Lisbon provides a unique setting for the expression of Portuguese culture. This comprises many influences, reflecting the city’s ability to draw on Atlantic and Mediterranean traditions as well as its links to Brazil and Africa. However for immigrants, students and tourists Lisbon is an enticing city

which provides an active and vibrant atmosphere. Much of life takes place in public – in the squares, and streets and the cafes and restaurants which can be found in the city centre, on the waterfront and in most neighbourhoods. This produces a safe and civilised urban environment.
