New infant mental health framework April 2016 The Public Health Agency has just published an infant mental health framework for Northern Ireland. Survey on use of apps in nursing care NICE is conducting a short survey, with the support of the RCN, to understand the ways in which registered nurses across the UK are engaging with apps in their professional practice and to explore their opinions and experiences with regard to app evaluation. RCN Northern Ireland Nurse of the Year Awards 2016 Northern Ireland Nurse of the Year 2016 Congratulations to Pauline Casey, who received the award in recognition of her work in transforming services for people with dementia in the Western Health and Social Care Trust. Northern Ireland Practice and Education Council’s award to celebrate outstanding achievement was won by Robert Sowney. Robert is an expert in emergency care and was the first nurse consultant in Northern Ireland. He is also chair of the RCN Foundation. Freedom of the City of Belfast for nurses The Freedom of the City of Belfast was conferred upon nurses who had worked or trained within Belfast at a ceremony and gala event, hosted by Lord Mayor Councillor Arder Carson and Belfast City Council, on Wednesday 25 May 2016. The award was accepted on behalf of the RCN by Kathleen Robb OBE FRCN, the last Matron of the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast, and Joleen McKee, RCN Student Committee representative for Northern Ireland.
