HOPE OF JESUS CHILDREN’S HOME
La Esperanza (Venado), Honduras
ANNUAL SPONSORSHIP LETTERFebruary 15, 2012
CELEBRATING OUR FIRST ANNIVERSARY!
THE HOPE OF JESUS CHILDREN’S HOME proudly celebrates the
completion of our first year of operation. We brought our first child home
on Dec. 20, 2010 and have been steadily growing our family ever since. Our
ministry is now home to eight children whom we love. Each of them has
become a part of our family. We currently have three full-time Honduran
staff members, numerous temporary staff from our local community, and
three full-time American missionaries. Our beautiful campus (shown
above) and this life-changing work would not be possible without your
generous support of our children and ministry. THANK YOU!

GENESIS" " " Age 2
Birthday: March 13, 2009
Genesis is a true joy to be around. She is a
bright child with an amazingly large
vocabulary. She’s our “little mama” who
loves to play house and make sure the
other children know she’s in charge. To
encourage her learning and develop, she
will begin receiving English classes as well
as a semi-formal pre-school education.
Genesis has been frequently ill this year.
She suffers from asthma which we are
able to manage with the help of her
pediatrician and nebulizer treatments.
It’s hard for me to imagine this precious
child in her former state. She was left
alone for long periods of time or left in the
care of her two brothers Isaac and
Abraham. She was often found wandering
in the street by herself in utter filth and
wearing just a dirty diaper. We were told
there is no doubt Genesis would be dead
had she not been rescued from the streets
and placed in our loving care.
JOHANA" " " Age 10
Birthday: January 7, 2002
Johana is happy, healthy, and did very
well in school with grades of mostly A’s
and B’s. This year she learned to read,
write, and do basic math. After learning to
spell and write, Johana was quick to begin
s e n d i n g a l l o f u s l i t t l e n o t e s o f
appreciation. In August 2011, we opened a
sewing workshop at the children’s home
and Johana learned to sew using a sewing
machine. She has greatly advanced her
sewing skills as well as her skills in hand
embroidering, which she thoroughly
enjoys. Her many sewing projects include
purses, curtains, decorative pillows, and a
pair of shorts. Johana has overcome
many challenges and is learning to control
some negative behaviors. She still bears
the emotional scars of the traumas she
has suffered. However, she is a strong and
determined young girl who is making
great progress in her psychological
therapy sessions.

YAQUELIN" " " Age 7
Birthday: August 26, 2004
Yaquelin (or “Jackie” as we call her) had a
very eventful year! She has adjusted well
to her home with us and loves her
caregiver deeply. She had heart surgery
in April to correct a congenital heart
problem and is doing very well. She is
strong and healthy with no medical
problems. This year Yaquelin has learned
to control some negative behaviors
through the loving guidance and
discipline of her caregivers. She struggles
in school and is easily distracted.
Unfortunately she did not pass the first
grade, but has started this new school
year in a private school that opened in our
community. She is one of only eight
students in the classroom. We are

individualized instruction, our little
“Jackie” will learn and develop. We’re
excited about the opportunities she has
been given thanks to our generous
ISAAC" " " Age 7
Birthday: December 7, 2005
Isaac is a feisty little boy who is eager to
please those he loves. He is extremely
bright and hard working. This year he
passed Kindergarten and is currently
enrolled in the first grade at the private
school with his brother Abraham and
Yaquelin. He was selected to be one of the
flag bearers in the Independence Day
prarade and to dance the “waltz” at the
Kindergarten graduation ceremony. Isaac
has blossomed under the good male role
models he has at the children’s home and
is developing a great work ethic. He
enjoys helping our staff do landscaping
and gather up the drying coffee beans at
the end of each day. One of his favorite
outings is to go to the farm with “Uncle
Mike” (Director of Operations, Mike
Miller) to check on the cows, munch on
freshly cut sugar cane, and inspect the
coffee plants.

HYLEN" " " " Age 10
Birthday: January 1, 2002
Hylen is a child in process of being
transformed by the Lord! Prior to coming
to live with us, she was described as a
very rebellious and disobedient girl. She is
strong-willed, but under the gentle
guidance of her caregiver, she has learned
to exert her will appropriately. The
depressed child who came to us in
January has been replaced by a the
happy, beautiful girl you see before you.
Her rebelliousness is being replaced with
assertiveness and her insecurities, with
self-confidence. Hylen is extremely
intelligent. She effortlessly passed the
t h i r d g r a d e l a s t y e a r a n d w a s
occassionally bored in class. She also has
a true God-given gift for learning
languages. She is soaking up English like a
sponge! To help her develop her abilities,
she is attending the private school in our
community, which teaches English and
will allow her to work at her own pace.
Hylen loves learning and wants to be a
teacher when she grows up.
ABRAHAM" " " Age 7
Birthday: September 20, 2004
Abraham has shown tremendous progress
this year in demonstrating self-control
and appropriate social skills. He is
learning to wait patiently and to follow
instructions. This year he discovered a
love for art and drawing. His new skills
are being developed by our Director of
Programs, Ana Reid. Abraham was
evaluated by a psychologist who
determined he has Attention Deficit with
Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and a
severe learning disability. Despite his

first grade at the same private school as
his brother Isaac and Yaquelin. His first
grade teacher volunteered his time to
tutor Abraham and Yaquelin for several
weeks before school started to prepare
them for the new school year. We praise
the Lord for the help of our volunteers

EDUARDO" " " Age 7
Birthday: January 11, 2005
Eduardo is an energetic young boy who
loves being outdoors and playing with his
Tonka truck. He is the campus comedian
and keeps all of us laughing at his antics.
He is happy to help out with anything
requested, as long as it doesn’t involve
being inside and sitting still! He has made
miraculous progress in his behavior due
to the patient, consistent guidance he now
receives. Eduardo was evaluated by a
psychologist and determined to have
Attention Deficit with Hyperactivity
Disorder (ADHD) and a severe learning
disability. Despite many challenges,
Eduardo graduated from Kindergarten
and has now started the first grade. He
has difficulty staying in the classroom, but
has promised to try his best to behave for
his teacher. We have high hopes he will do
well this year in school.
VILMA" " " Age 10
Birthday: March 13, 2001
Vilma is a loving child. She passed the
second grade with all A’s and B’s and
learned to read, write, and do basic math
this year which helped to greatly improve
her self-esteem. She now enjoys reading
books from our library instead of just
looking at the pictures. Another skill that
has helped her become more confident is
learning to use a sewing machine. She
truly enjoys being creative with fabric and
has very good skills. She even makes little
purses for her dolls from the extra scraps
of fabric! Vilma struggles with controlling
some negative behaviors and is receiving
frequent psychological counseling to help
her in this area.

Table Manners Class
New Director of Programs
In November we were blessed by the
arrival of our new Director of
Programs, Ana Reid. Ana is a SAMS
missionary who has been running a
homeless shelter in Boston for the
past ten years. Ana brings not only
years of experience to the ministry, but
also much creativity and light-heartedness, which has
sparked all kinds of activities from Table Manners Classes to our
very first Talent Show. During the Talent Show, several of the children sang
songs, others did acrobatics like walking on their hands, and others participated
in dramas like the reenactment of the story of Baby Moses. Our Assistant
Director, Vanessa Aguilar, sang a duet and Ana...... well, Ana blew us all away
with a foot-stompin’ down-home, country tap dance. GO ANA GO!!
