up early and praying for Christians like Hyo who are living in places where following Jesus comes at the highest price.

You see, Hyo is from North Korea where Christianity is outlawed. His mum and dad escaped, fleeing for their lives when he was young, meaning he had to fend for himself. As a 9 year old he lived on the streets during a time of harsh famine. He saw friends die of malnourishment. He survived.

The years passed, but little did Hyo know his family were looking for him – they’d paid brokers to find him. He managed to escape, only to be caught on the Chinese

border. He was sent back to North Korea and imprisoned. He was interrogated over the whereabouts of his family. He didn’t say anything, so the interrogations got worse.

After a long two weeks he’d suffered enough. Barely able to walk, he was released three days before he would go on trial. He had three days before his life was condemned to a labour camp.Instead, he managed to arrange an escape. Second time round it worked – soldiers were paid

off, and instead of chasing him, they carried him over the border themselves. Hyo was lucky to have any time at all. Today he knows Jesus and is able to speak openly about his faith.

But, up to 70,000 Christians are currently condemned to horrendous conditions in North Korea’s labour camps – all because they believe in Jesus. They have no rights. They are treated as animals. They are hidden. They are forgotten. Their time is running out.
