From the CEOWith Thanksgiving just around the corner, I wanted to let you know I’m most thankful for the years I have spent with WACAP.

When I say thankful, I mean something quite different from feeling pride or a sense of personal achievement. WACAP is so much bigger than me, and there is so much work left to do. I simply mean that at WACAP, we’ve been given an in-credible opportunity to do the two things every commence-ment speaker tells every college graduate: Do what you love. Make a difference. The ability to do those two things on a daily basis is a gift, and we don’t take it lightly.

Our theme this year is “A Home for the Holidays.” It may sound like a cliché, or a Bing Crosby lyric. Trust me, it’s much more than that for the children WACAP serves. Remember, all holidays have one thing in common, no matter which ones you celebrate: they are meant to be shared with the people you love.

Most of us can take this for granted. But what if we couldn’t? Do we have any idea what it’s like to be alone on a holiday?

Right now, all around the world, millions of children know exactly what it’s like. Because of circumstances far beyond their control, they are facing a holiday season without a home or a family to call their own. These are the children you’ll be helping with your donation.

Holidays are also frequently associated with giving and generosity, and with reaching across to our fellow human beings. If to give is to celebrate, then let’s start celebrating now. Join WACAP in reaching across to children in need—across the world, or tonight, across the ballroom. We don’t perform magic or miracles, but we do the next best thing: we bring children home—not only for the holidays but for all year round and for a lifetime.

By participating tonight, you’ve become part of our mission to find homes for thousands of orphaned children. Thanks for joining us to do what we love and make a difference.

Sincerely,

LiLLian Thogersen President and CEO WACAP

From the ChairMy third daughter came home from China three years ago, at almost 8 years of age. I asked her what it means to have a home for the holidays. Of course she said she likes getting presents, but she added that holidays are also about be-longing and having friends and family around forever.

For me that’s a routine, but for my daughter it was a dis-covery. I’ve discovered a few things too. My family has celebrated Chinese New Year for many years now. I’m sure we depart from tradition in some ways, but we still create feelings of love, family, belonging and a common bond with others close to us. This is an experience that children really don’t have when they grow up in an orphanage.

By supporting WACAP tonight, you’re helping children who need it the most. All kids deserve to come home for the holi-days —whether they are older, have medical needs or are still babies when they join their forever families.

All the best,

Linda Hildreth 2013 WACAP Children’s Hope Auction Chair

Thanks to your support, has helped bring more than 10,000 children home for the holidays (and the rest of the year) with their forever families.

But many, many more children are still waiting.

• Around the world, a child becomes orphaned every 18 seconds.

• More than 100,000 children are waiting to be adopted from U.S. foster care.

Many of the children in need of adoption are older or have physical or developmental disabilities. WACAP makes a promise to these children—to do all that we can to find families to help them reach their highest potential and love them for who they are. Our Promise Fund helps remove financial barriers between these children and their adoptive families and allows WACAP staff to advocate for the children who wait.

Please consider joining us in fulfilling our promises by making a fully tax-deductible donation today and help-ing us continue our work for children. The auctioneer will call out funding levels for one-time gifts of

$10,000 $5,000 $2,500 $1,000

$500 $250 $100

Funds raised will help us bring hundreds more children Home for the Holidays. Just raise your bid card high when you hear the amount you wish to give.

8. All purchases are final and there will be no ex-changes or refunds unless otherwise noted.

9. Auction items will be awarded to one purchaser only. If several individuals bid collectively on an item, all payments must be collected by one pur-chaser and then presented for payment.
