Art Instructions
Shadow Drawing Abstract art
Step 1: To begin, grab a piece of paper and a pencil.
Step 2: Go for a walk around the house, outside or in the garden and look for interesting shadows.
Step 3: Once you’ve spotted a shadow you would like to use, place your paper on the ground under the shadow or use tape to
attach the paper to a wall.
Step 4: Trace out the shapes using your pencil, using continuous line. Try not to take your hand of the page. Once you’re happy
with that first shadow, continue onto another. This art activity works especially well if you have a range of different shadow
tracings on the one page.So find as many shadows as you can!
Step 5: Finally, add colour to your shadow drawing. You might choose a range of your favourite colours or you may want to
explore warm, cool, or even monochromatic colour schemes. The choice is yours.

The New Shirts
It was Greg’s birthday. He was ten years old. His cousin Sally gave him two shirts for his birthday. One
shirt was blue and the other was red. On Friday, Greg wore the new blue shirt to school. On Saturday,
Greg didn’t wear a new birthday shirt. He wore an old shirt. Guess why?! It was because he went to the
beach. On Sunday, Greg and his sister, Julie, caught the train into town to watch the cricket. So, what do
you think Greg wore? Yes! His new red shirt. Julie was glad he wore his red shirt because every time she
needed to find him, she would just look around for his bright red short standing out in the crowd.
QUESTIONS
1. Who was the boy in the story?
2. How old is Greg?
3. Who gave Greg some new shorts?
4. How many shorts did Sally give him?
5. What colours were the shirts?
6. What day did Greg wear his new blue shirt and where did he go?
7. What day did Greg wear an old shirt and where did he go?
8. Where did Greg and his sister go and on when?
9. What shirt did Greg wear on Sunday?
