To enable the students to:
understand what is a paragraph
list down ideas related to a topic. Think and ask questions on the topic what, why,
when, how etc
understand that a paragraph is divided into 3 parts
build and write a good paragraph based on the basic elements of a paragraph
Value Points
A paragraph is a series of organised sentences related to a single topic. In a paragraph
the sentences are written one after the other without any gaps. A paragraph is a form
of creative writing hence requires a lot of thinking. You need to ask simple questions
to yourselves such as what, where, how, when etc related to the topic to gather
information.
i. An Introduction is a very important part
ii. The Body is the main discussion about what we are writing.
iii. Ending or Conclusion is the wrapping up of the paragraph and has to be as impressive
as the introduction.
A paragraph is a series of organised sentences. These sentences are divided into:
i. Topic Sentence- what the topic is about(This is what is the Introduction)
ii. Supporting Sentence- it supports the main sentence and gives more information
about the main sentence.
iii. Adding details- add details to the supportive sentence. It verifies whatever we
are writing is correct.
(Supportive and adding details makes the body of the paragraph)
iv. Conclusion- concludes the paragraph in two or three sentences
(This ends the paragraph impressively)
Always remember that the start and the ending have to be very very impressive.
Paragraph must not be very lengthy and try not to repeat ideas again and again and
make it boring.
Sample Paragraph
Write a paragraph on the topic ‘My favourite Game’ in about 50-60 words.
Introduction-My favourite game is Cricket. It is a very interesting game. Playing this game
requires a lot of hard work and dedication. It turns people’s dreams into a reality.
Body-It is one of the most popular games not only in India but all over the world. It is the
national game of England but is played world over. It is played between two teams
consisting of 11 players each. The ultimate aim of the team is to score higher than the other.
I have been playing this game since I was four years old. Watching others play is as
interesting as playing yourself.
Ending-I love watching and playing cricket. It is my dream to be a cricketer and join the
Indian cricket team.

apply concept of fraction in daily life
simplify one – half, one – third and one – quarter of a collection
determine a fraction in a set
Fraction as a Part of Collection
We know, fraction is a part of the whole object.
Thus, a fraction is a part of the collection or collections of objects.
The denominator or bottom number of a fraction is the number of equal parts of a
whole or a collection. The numerator or top number of a fraction means how many
equal parts of a whole or a collection is considered.
• When we divide one whole into two equal parts, each part is called one half of the
whole.
• To find one half of a collection, divide by 2.
• When we divide one whole into three equal parts, each part is called one-third of the
whole.
• To find one-third of a collection, divide by 3
• When we divide one whole into four equal parts, each part is called one fourth of the
whole.
