To Read & Understand
Pronouns that stand for the names of people and things are called personal
pronouns. Eg. I, you, he, she.
Personal pronouns that act as the subject in a sentence are called subject
pronouns.
Personal pronouns that come in place of the object in a sentence are called
object pronouns.
The points that point to the objects to which they refer are called demonstrative
pronouns. Eg. This, that, these and those.
The pronouns that are used to indicate that something belongs to someone are
called possessive pronouns. Eg. Hers, yours, his etc
The pronouns that are used to ask questions are called interrogative pronouns.
Eg. Who, what, which etc.

Science
Q6 a) animals which breathe through lungs are lion, tiger, frog, sparrow etc.
Animals take in oxygen from the air around and release carbon dioxide. The oxygen
reaches the lungs through nostrils and wind pipe and reaches lungs. The lungs have a
network of finely divided blood vessels, which help in absorbing oxygen from the
inhaled air. In lungs, carbon dioxide from the body is released and oxygen is absorbed.
Once the oxygen reaches blood, it is supplied to all the body parts.
b) Fish, tadpoles, crab breathe through gills. Aquatic animals in nature absorb oxygen
dissolved in water through special organs called gills. Gills absorb oxygen and release
carbon dioxide in water when aquatic animals inhale and exhale.
c)Flies breathe through spiracles which are tiny air holes in their body as they do not
have blood. The oxygen is directly supplied through air holes into a network of air
tubes called trachea. This directly delivers oxygen to their body parts.
d) Animals live in different habitat so to adapt in their environment they require
different breathing organs.
Eg-land animals –lungs
Amphibian –gills, lungs and moist skin in case of frog.
Earthworms and newts –moist skin.

4. Long Answer Questions:
(a) Icebergs are the large blocks of ice that break off from the glaciers and float into
the sea. These icebergs pose great danger to ships because they are generally not
visible due to thick fog in the region.
(b) Greenland is located in the Frigid Zone. About 80% of Greenland lies under the
layer of snow and ice throughout the year and temperatures fall below freezing point.
Extremely chilly and cold winds blow and there is no sunlight for several weeks
during winter. In summer, weather remains bright and sunny for several weeks. But
the temperature still remains below the freezing point.
(c) Deposits of coal, diamonds, and many metals - including silver, nickel, platinum,
copper, iron, and uranium are known to exist, but due to climatic conditions they have
not yet been utilised. The island is also believed to have some of the world's largest
remaining oil resources. Not only this, but there is also a large surplus of hydropower.
The second-largest sector by employment is Greenland's fishing industry. Whaling
and seal hunting were once the most important trade of Greenland's economy,
however, due to controversies the market for their products have become limited.
(d) In the last few years, the life of Inuits has changed. Many of them have started
living in houses built of wood or stone in towns with modern facilities. They use rifles
for hunting animals and motorboats to fish instead of small boats - Kayaks. Now, they
use motorized sledges called skidoos to travel on land. They do not depend on food
from hunting and fishing, they now import food from other countries. The Inuits even
work in mines and oilfields.
5. Beyond the text (HOTS Question):
Most people in Greenland live along its coast because fishing is the main occupation
of the Inuits. Fishing being the major industry, dozens of processing plants have come
up in the South and Southwest coastal areas which export the fish products on large
scale.
