From the Pastor’s Desk Dear Brothers and Sisters:

5th Sunday of Lent

A er the earthquake had subsided, when the rescu-

ers reached the ruins of a young woman’s house, they

saw her dead body through the cracks. But her pose

was somehow strange since she knelt on her knees

like a person who was worshiping. Her body was

leaning forward, and her two hands were suppor ng

an object. The collapsed house had cracked her back

and her head. With many difficul es, the leader of

the rescuer team put his hand through a narrow gap

on the wall to reach the woman’s body. He was hop-

ing that this woman could s ll be alive, but she had

passed away. He and the rest of the team le this

house and went to search the next collapsed building.

For some reason, the team leader was driven by a

compelling force to go back to the ruined house of

the dead woman. Again, he knelt down and used his

hand through the narrow cracks to search the li le

space under the dead body. Suddenly, he screamed,

“A child! There is a child!” The whole team worked

together; carefully they removed the piles of ruined

objects around the dead woman. There was a 3-

month old li le boy wrapped in a flowery blanket un-

der his mother’s dead body. Obviously, the woman

had made an ul mate sacrifice by using her body to

make a cover to protect her son. They opened the

blanket and saw a cell phone inside. There was a text

message on the screen, it said: “Dear Baby, if you can

live, always remember that I love you.” Death with

hope in resurrec on is the central theme of the Scrip-

ture readings for the Fi h Sunday of Lent. May our

par cipa on in the Eucharist help us to have hope in

the seemingly hopeless situa ons of

our lives.

5o Domingo de Cuaresma Después de que el terremoto se calmo, cuando los socorristas llegaron a las ruinas de la casa de una mu-jer joven, vieron su cadáver a través de las grietas. Pero su pose era algo extraña, ya que estaba arrodi-llada como cuando una persona esta adorando. Su cuerpo estaba inclinado hacia adelante, y sus dos ma-nos estaban apoyando un objeto. Cuando la casa co-lapso, quebró su espalda y su cabeza. Con muchas dificultades, el líder del equipo resca sta puso su mano a través de una rajadura estrecha a través de la pared para llegar al cuerpo de la mujer. Él tenía la es-peranza de que esta mujer aún estuviera viva, pero ya había fallecido. Él y el resto del equipo abandonaron la casa y se fueron a buscar al siguiente edificio de-rrumbado. Por alguna razón, el líder del equipo se sin ó impulsado por una fuerza irresis ble de volver a las ruinas de la casa de la mujer muerta. El equipo entero tra-bajo junto; cuidadosamente, quitaron los montones de ruinas de objetos alrededor de la mujer muerta. Había un pequeño de 3 meses envuelto en una saba-na florida bajo el cadáver de su madre. Obviamente, la mujer había hecho un sacrificio u lizando su cuer-po para proteger a su hijo. Abrieron la manta y vieron un teléfono celular en el interior. Había un mensaje de texto en la pantalla, que decía: "Querido bebé, si puedes vivir, recuerda siempre que te amo." La muer-te con la esperanza en la resurrección es el tema cen-tral de las lecturas bíblicas del Quinto domingo de Cuaresma.
