Reading

I recently enjoyed reading The Explorer by Katherine Rundell with my children. If you follow this link, you can watch videos of Katherine sharing an extract from her latest book and taking about how to write stories, you can also download the first chapter of her latest book, Rooftoppers, to read. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zpdtsbk/articles/zrxxgwx Please make sure you spend some time reading today – if the weather is good you could head outside and read in the sunshine, I have been doing that A LOT lately!

Page 3: HERONS HOME LEARNING WEEK 6 · HERONS HOME LEARNING WEEK 6 Good morning Lovely Herons! I hope you had a good half term – it didn’t really feel like a half term did it? I am back

I have been meeting with my bookclub friends via Zoom to talk about what we have been reading. Maybe you and a friend could choose a book to both read which you could then talk about? Or you could just challenge a friend to read a book which you have enjoyed.

Writing

Have you found out what each of your spellings mean? Spend some time looking at any that

you are finding tricky.

For this week’s creative writing challenge, I am giving you a picture to look at. Can you write

the story?

How are you going to create strong feelings in your writing? Consider using the following: I saw… I heard… I touched… I tasted… I could smell… I wondered… Similes and/ or metaphors to develop description. Ellipsis to create pause and effect. Short, snappy sentences to change the pace.

WOTD: optimistic Pronunciation/syllables? Word class? Definition? Exemplar sentence? Synonyms? Antonyms? Prefix? Suffix?
