By Tresa EricksonYour toddler is growing up quickly, and
efore you know it, they will be in grade schoolnd done with that race-car or princess bed. Heree some tips for transforming their room into one
ey can live in for a long time.It may be hard to imagine now, but eventual-that little one dragging toys from one end of the
ouse to another will be a teenager, and thatenager won’t like the sweet striped wallpaperou selected for their bedroom. Better to get rid ofat wallpaper and make choices now that willork for toddlers to teens.
While wallpaper is nice, changing it out asour child grows can be a hassle. Paint is a betteroice, especially for the younger years whenessy hands are not uncommon. Removing dabschocolate pudding from a painted wall is far
easier than it is from a wallpapered wall. Tradethe wallpaper for paint, and to reduce colorchanges over the years, choose a somewhat neu-tral shade that your child can live with for a longtime, such as a mossy green, pewter gray or gold-
en caramel.Think neutral for all other aspects of the room,in particular the flooring and lighting. Forget therose-colored carpeting and the pink and purpleceiling fan. Opt for beige carpeting and a black, white or wooden ceiling fan instead. You canbring color and character into the room with fab-rics and accessories that can easily be changedout.
Continue the neutral backdrop with the win-dow coverings and linens. White or woodenblinds will grow with your child, as will solid-col-ored sheets and bedding. Your child may have a
favorite cartoon character or color, and you canhonor that in the valances, pillows, throws andduvet covers. Keep the sheets and bed ruffle khakiand pump up the color with a camouflage-themedduvet color and dark green pillows and window
valances.Get rid of the race-car or princess bed andany other furniture that won’t stand the test of time.Look for sturdy, multi-functional pieces that willappeal to your child now and later. Bunk beds aregreat for young kids who like to have sleepoversand can be separated later for older kids. Thesame goes for that modular cube storage unit. Youcan stack the cubes one way when your child isyoung and another way when they are older. Asfor furniture color, neutral is the best choice, becareful with white furniture, as it doesn’t alwaysappeal to teen girls.
Accessories can easily be rely on them to add color and cchild’s room. Do keep in mindoften kids’ tastes change, so donon the accessories for your child
items at flea markets, yard salesales. Choose inexpensive posteendar pages you can frame raframed artwork. Hang a bulletinwork and add some wallpaperture and walls for pops of color.
Decorating your child’s roomis not hard. It just takes some thoutomorrow. Good luck, and don’input of your most important crititheir room after all. Give them looks, and you may not have tomuch later to keep their room cle

Medicare for workers over age 65
(NAPS)—Turning 65 has traditionally been associat-ed with the start of a person’s retirement and, accord-ngly, his or her Medicare coverage. But if you are oneof the 10,000 baby boomers turning 65 every day andyou choose to work past the traditional retirement age,t’s important that you understand how this choicempacts your Medicare coverage.
"Medicare enrollment can be confusing, especially
f you work past age 65 and have employer-sponsoredhealth coverage," says Tom Paul, chief consumer officer,UnitedHealthcare. "Regardless of when you plan toretire, it’s important to learn about Medicare as youapproach your 65th birthday so you have time to con-sider your options and can feel confident about thechoices you make."
Keep these things in mind:Timing Matters: Pay attention to your Initial
Enrollment Period (IEP). The IEP is a seven-month periodthat includes the three months before your 65th birthday, the month of your birthday, and the three months afteryour birthday. You should understand how your enroll-ment choices during the IEP could impact your healthcare coverage both now and in the future. Keep in mindthat many people choose to enroll in Medicare Part A(for hospital care) when they turn 65 even if they haveemployer coverage. For most people, Part A is availablefor no monthly premium and can be combined with someemployer-sponsored health plans.
Penalties and Gaps Are Possible: If you don’t signup for Medicare coverage during your IEP, you couldexperience a gap in coverage later and could also incurpenalties on your premiums for Medicare Part B (doc-tor’s visits) and Part D (prescription medications). Toavoid these scenarios, be proactive in contactingMedicare to notify them of your delayed enrollment andmake sure you understand the rules and requirements forfuture enrollment.
HR Can Help: Your employer’s HR or benefits coor-
dinator can help you understand your current health cov-erage and when you should enroll in Medicare. Somekey questions to ask:
• Should I enroll in Original Medicare while Icontinue to receive employer-sponsored benefits? It’s notalways an either-or situation. Sometimes people cancombine their employer-sponsored coverage withMedicare benefits.
• Does my employer-sponsored plan offer prescrip-tion drug benefits that qualify as "creditable coverage"?
If the answer is yes, then you won’t need to enroll inMedicare Part D as long as you have your employer-sponsored coverage.
•When I am ready to retire, what steps will I needto take to fully transition to Medicare coverage or retireebenefits through my employer? Be sure to plan well inadvance as it can take several months for your Medicareenrollment to be processed, meaning you could face alapse in coverage if you wait until the last minute.
If you would like further information on Medicare, the IEP and how Medicare differs from employer-spon-sored health coverage, you can call 1-800-MEDICARE(TTY: 1-877-486-2048), 24 hours a day, seven days aweek, or visit www.Medicare.gov.
