Approximately a yearafter final approvals weregiven for a theater wing addi-tion to Kettle MoraineLutheran High School in thetown of Jackson, the facility isbeginning to take shape.

During a March 6 inter-view and tour, schoolSuperintendent David Barteltsaid the project will be com-pleted by the end of May,with the summer months to bespent fine-tuning technical

aspects of the additional andcompleting outside landscap-ing.

The addition includes atheater with 750 seats andsix practice rooms for finearts classes. The theater willbe used for daily chapelservices for students. Also, Barteltnoted that half of the schools studentbody is either in band or choir.Currently, practice for those activitiesoccurs in one classroom throughoutthe day. With the addition, all thoseprograms will have their own spaceand can expand.

It is a big part of our culture the fine arts, Bartelt said.

In addition to school activity, the

theater will be available for use byoutside groups

We serve multiple communitiesoutside of Jackson. We do hope thatwell be able to have events that allthese communities will be able tocome together on our campus andreally enjoy the fine arts, Barteltsaid. Well try to get some profes-sional companies from Milwaukee tocome up here to perform. That wouldbe a great activity in a fantasticvenue for our community.

During the tour, the ceiling to the

theater was in the process of beingpainted. As soon as the painting is

completed, the acoustical clouds willthen be installed. When that is com-pleted, the seating and flooring willthen be installed. Underneath thestage is a full basement that includesspace for storage.

In the front lobby entrance to thetheater wing, there will be a granitedonor wall. Instead of the names ofdonors, the wall will be adorned withwords that are special to the donorsfor the project.

NO HEAT TO THE FEETFor some reason long ago, people started spreading the pooradvice to others with foot problems to soak their feet in hot water,

with or without some soaking additive. This is definitelyWRONG.Never soak your feet in hot water. Even some whirlpools and spasare too hot for safety. Hot water can cause a dilatation of the bloodvessels allowing blood clots to move if present. This could result ina stroke or heart attack. Hot water will also cause continuedswelling of a foot or ankle resulting in continued pain of the foot, ankle or toes. Usually swelling will respond to cool or cold treat-ment, but if you are a diabetic or have poor circulation, you shouldsee a Podiatrist before doing anything.

Craicmore, a contemporary traditionaleltic quartet, comes to the Schauer Arts &ctivities Center on Saturday, March 16 at30 p.m. Four part harmony, rhythmic hard-oe dancing, an East Indian Shruti Box, andmbling Didjeridoo all accent the warmth ofe fiery performance.

With roots in the music of Scotland and

Ireland, Craicmore features criticallyacclaimed vocalist Nancy Johnston. The mar-riage of Johnstons warm vocals with JohnMacAdams and Sean Faye Cullens churningrhythms and Dave Champagnes sinuous whis-tles and piping displays their absolute delightin playing. Like the name itself, an easy blendof an Irish word for fun "craic," and "mor,"

Irish for big, Craicmores music does whatgreat music shouldenrich the tradition. Theperformance will be preceded by a freeSoundBites discussion from 6:30-7 pm, duringwhich members of the group will providebackground on the program. (NAPSI)If you're like most Americans,ou've lost something valuable because ofutter, according to a recent Harristeractive survey. The most common thing

st? Important documents and bills. So that you don't have to deal with such

fficulties, here are 10 tips to help you getganized:

Tip 10: Start small when starting toeclutter. Pick one area or room and sortrough your stuff. Purge items no longered and assign the keepers a place.

Tip 9: Keep things orderly. Create zonesr certain activities or categories and storel related items in that zone.

Tip 8: Have a young family? Make it a

game with your kids to get organized.Create a treasure hunt and you may redis-cover items once thought to be lost.

    Tip 7: Organization needs consistency.

Talk to your significant other or roommateabout maintaining a united front on keepingthings organized.

Tip 6: Enlist help for larger organizationefforts. Invite friends over to help clear outclutter; pay them with pizza and cold drinksfor their work.

Tip 5: Donate duplicate or unwanteditems to a charity that can then use yourextras to support those in need.

Tip 4: Pick your battles. Start with what ismanageable, like a closet, and work your

way toward larger projects, such as thebasement or garage.

Tip 3: Create routines. Make it a habit totackle a new area of the home every month.

Tip 2: Put it away now. Done using some-thing? Instead of letting things pile up, putthem away immediately.

Tip 1: Enjoy the spoils of victory.Cleaning and organizing is a daunting butrewarding task. Enjoy your accomplishment.

(BPT) - The majority of Americans supportontinuing the Social Security program, even ifey are decades away from drawing benefits,2010 survey by AARP found. Nevertheless,th the program's future financial viability an

ongoing subject of political debate, many peo-ple may undervalue the role Social Securitycan play in their retirement planning.

"For years, financial services companieshave downplayed the role of Social Security inbolstering financial security in retirement,"writes James Mahaney, vice president ofStrategic Initiatives for Prudential, in the whitepaper "Innovative Strategies to Help MaximizeSocial Security Benefits." "However, consider-ing the increased financial risks retirees nowshoulder, the tax preferences that SocialSecurity receives, and the income options thatSocial Security now offers, a strong argumentcan be made that Social Security should playa greater role in a retiree's financial planning."

companies offering pensions, saving for retire-ment has become even more important fortoday's workers. Yet, retirement savings ratesremain low.

Social Security offers "regular income thatis guaranteed to increase over time and contin-ue for as long as you live," Mahaney writes."No other (retirement) vehicle can match thecombination of inflation-fighting increases, longevity protection, investment risk elimina-tion, and spousal coverage that Social Securitycan (offer)."

The Express News recently asked theckson Historical Society for a list of three toe items about the Jackson area that peopleay not know about. The following informa-on was provided by Russ Hanson of theckson Historical Society.

A Young Man From Germany illage of Jacksons founder

In 1848, Franz Reis, a young German of7 summers, acquired a preemption on anea of land on which subsequently thellage of Jackson arose. The year before he

ad emigrated from Germany, and arrivedmost penniless. Strength, coupled with

ourage and determination, were his capital. When he had saved up a little money,

e bought forty acres of land. To this hedded one stretch after another, as hiseans would allow, until at last, he owned

ur hundred acres of the finest soil in thatcinity. He worked his land in the best waynd with the best means of the pioneers.

When the "air-line" railroad was built

from Milwaukee to Fond du Lac, Franz Reisoffered the company, free of charge, a rightof way and a plot of ground for a depot, forhe was aware of the advantages he wouldreap from a railroad that would pass throughhis farm and would stop right at his door. Not only would he benefit from it, but like-wise the entire neighborhood. The offer wasaccepted, the rails were laid across his land, and the depot was built. Thus he becamethe founder of Jackson which formerly wascalled Riceville, after his Anglicized sur-name, so that Americans could pronounce itcorrectly. On his farmland the village wasbuilt.

In 1873 he erected a large general storeand saloon, and also an elevator, andaround this center the village grew. Thefounder had six children, of whom the three

sons followed in the footprints of their father. He died in an accident in 1878. "Reisville(Riceville)" was incorporated as the Villageof Jackson in 1912. It covered 160 acres

and included 172 personsJackson and the railroadIn the early 1870s, a railroad to be built

from Milwaukee to Fond du Lac was seekinga route through our area. Mayfield in theTown of Polk had been working to have therailroad run through its community andappeared to have a head start in the negoti-ations. When the process bogged down inMayfield, Reis offered the railroad free right-of-way across his land plus land for a depot, and having solid community backing, sealedthe deal. With the railroad passing throughhis land, in 1873 Reis built a general store, saloon, and grain elevator, beginning a peri-od of community growth. "Reisville(Riceville)" was incorporated as the Villageof Jackson in 1912. It covered 160 acresand included 172 persons.

"Corner Communities" in the Townof Jackson

The Town of Jackson was incorporatedon January 21st, 1846. Within the mainlyagricultural Town of Jackson there devel-oped a number of hamlets to serve localtrade. Most of the hamlets had a generalstore, saloon and dance hall, blacksmithshop, and church. Some had a cheese fac-

tory, post office, or school. hamlets was Kirchhayn on WThiels Corners at Hwy. 60 Salter at Pleasant Valley Rd. Keowns Corners at County NRoad, Gumms Corners at and County P, and of c(Jackson).

With the coming of thReisville (Jackson), it grew hamlets faded into history. lets, only Kirchhayn and Jtoday.

arious small parcels around the village inhich the family made their home. He hadhalf acre here, an acre there, and a quar-r acre here, which was the custom in those

days for all families. Jacob had four sonsand two daughters and it was very difficult tomake a living from these 23 widely scatteredparcels of land. It was for this reason thatJacobs son, Samuel, came to the UnitedStates in 1843

In the early 1840s, Samuel Schowaltercame to Milwaukee and took a job with thePabst Brewing Co. Looking for land for hisfamily still in Germany, he walked northwestout of Milwaukee on an Indian trail andcame to Richfield. The old Indian trail even-tually became Highway 41. After stayingwith friends in Richfield which was just beingsettled, he heard of some land available inthe area. He walked from Richfield to what isnow the intersection of Western Avenue andCounty P in Jackson. The land was covered

with virgin timber and had a flowing springon it. The Indian trail that ran alongside thisland eventually became Hwy. 55, then Hwy.45, and finally County P.

Samuel hurried back to Milwaukee andwrote his father to urge him to bring his fam-ily to the United State at once. Upon arriv-ing, they immediately made a claim andpaid $125 for each 80 acre parcel theyclaimed. An 80 acre parcel was claimed inthe name of the father and each of the foursons, with three of the 80 acre parcels being
