An 18-year-old Milwaukee man is fac-ing several charges in connection with apolice chase that began in West Bend andended in Germantown during the early morn-ing hours of July 10.

According to a criminal complaint filedby the Washington County District Attorney'sOffice July 13, Christopher Lott,18, ischarged with operating a motor vehicle with-out owner's consent, attempting to flee orelude a traffic officer, misdemeanor theft

(party to a crime), and possession of an ille-gally obtained prescription (party to acrime).

A conviction for operating a motor vehi-cle without owner's consent carries a possi-ble sentence of a $10,000 fine, six years injail, or both. A conviction for attempting toflee or elude a traffic officer carries a possi-ble sentence of a $10,000 fine, three yearsand six months in jail, or both. A convictionfor misdemeanor theft (party to a crime) car-ries a possible sentence of a $10,000 fine,nine months in jail, or both. A conviction forpossessing an illegally obtained prescrip-tion (party to a crime) carries a possible sen-tence of a $500 fine, six months in jail, orboth.

According to the criminal complaint, at1:37 a.m. July 10 a West Bend Police officer

observed a vehicle leaving a grocery store inthe 1600 block of South Main Street at ahigh rate of speed. The officer determinedthe vehicle was traveling 46 mph in a 30mph zone. When the officer attempted to ini-tiate a traffic stop, the vehicle turned ontoHumar Street and into a driveway for anapartment complex, then drove onto thegrass and back onto Main Street, with thevehicle accelerating to 70-80 mph.

The vehicle then continued south ontoHwy. P with speeds in excess of 100 mph,according to the criminal complaint. The vehi-cle drove past a stop sign at the intersections

of Hwy. P and Hwy. 60 and then drove pasta stop sign as it turned off of Boniwell Roadand onto Goldendale Road. The vehicle con-tinued on Goldendale Road before turningonto Hwy. 145. At that point, the suspectturned off the lights to the vehicle and startedto straddle the center line. The vehicle thenturned onto Hwy. 45 north and then made aU-turn a half mile south of Hwy. 60. At thatpoint, a Germantown police officer deployeda tire deflation device that caused the front

passenger side tire to come off the rim. Thevehicle then slowed to 25-35 mph. The vehi-cle nearly struck a Sheriff's Departmentsquad vehicle posted near Lannon Road. Thechase lasted approximately 16 miles.

Police later learned that the vehicle wasreported stolen in the city of Milwaukee. Thecriminal complaint states that stolen propertywas recovered from the stolen vehicle, includ-ing prescription pills. The criminal complaintalso cites information from a detective who"reports that numerous other items that havebeen linked to entry to auto complainantswere also recovered from the stolen vehicle."

A hearing for Lott will be held at 8:15a.m. July 27 in the Washington County Justice Center.
