Student Commendations/Recognition Trustees commended various Alvin HS students recognized by the National Merit Scholars Program. e following 12th grade students were recognized: Sarah Hoffmann for being selected as a National Merit Commended Student; Molly Watson, National Merit Commended Student and National Hispanic Scholar; Sofia Aguilar, National Merit Hispanic Scholar, and Stephanie Castro, National Merit Hispanic Scholar. Alaina Jett, 4th grader at Hasse Elementary, was commended for placing first in the 2017 Alvin ISD Spelling Bee. Alaina will now represent Alvin ISD at the Houston Public Media Spelling Bee on April 1st. Trustees recognized Addie Fusig, 7th grader at Harby JH for representing Alvin ISD in the 2016 Save Texas History Essay Contest. Students across the State of Texas participated and Addie was awarded runner up for her essay, “e Astrodome in Houston.” In addition, Trustees also recognized elementary and junior high students that placed in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Art Competition. Reid Mickle, 5th grader at Marek Elementary was recognized for receiving Elementary Best in Show Recognition. Emma Mills, 1st grader at Marek Elementary was commended for receiving Elementary Gold Medal Recognition. Jessica Liu and Julia Lonard, both of Nolan Ryan Junior High, were recognized for placing Best in Show and receiving Gold Medal Recognition, respectively in the Junior High Category. Staff Recognition Trustees commended Karla James of EC Mason Elementary, and Ralph Presley of Wilder Elementary for becoming published authors.
