The rule over creation God gives has been...Another way we refect God is through our ruling over creationwisely. God gave us authority in the world and called us torepresent His loving rule. Due to sin, we either abuse or abandonour rightul position o authority. Because o Christs death andresurrection, the world once again has a human King, and theBible promises that the citizens o Christs kingdom will reign wt h The surviving children o Israel remained aithul toGod while living in captivity.

    When God made human beings,

He gave them a mandate orruling and reigning. Our designas rulers is both a privilege anda responsibility. God wantedthe order o the world to beestablished by men and womenwho oversaw it with wisdomand love, refecting the way GodHimsel would oversee that world.

Abused. The beautiul exercise o authority in the Gardeo Eden was twisted as soon as sin enteredthe world. The creation rebelled against therulership o man. Plants grew thistles, animalsgrew stubborn, and predators looked at us andsmelled blood. The creation rose up againstus with tsunamis and tornadoes, sending usrunning and hidingdesperate or help.

    1. Authorized (gen. 1:26-28).

When God made human beings, He gave them a mandate or ruling and reigning. Teres nomystery in the hierarhy o reation, is there? God learly stated that man and woman were reatedto rule over the sh o the sea, the birds o the sky, the livestok, and all the earth. We were madeto have authority over these reatures.

Our design as rulers is both a privilege and a responsibility. God wanted the order o the worldto be established by men and women who oversaw it with wisdom and love, reeting the way GodHimsel would oversee that world.

Our best glimpse o this kind o rule is in Genesis 2:19, when God brought a parade o animals

beore Adam. Adams naming o the animals demonstrated that he had authority over them. Likenaming a hild, he exerted a atherly, authoritarian power over the reatures in the midst o thatperet world, diferentiating and dening eah one as the Lord brought them to him.

Te naming o the animals was reative work. Following Gods own ations, Adam used words togive shape to this new world. Like the creators own inventive work, the image-bearer imagined andthought things up. He invented names as he explored the variety and wonder o reation, notiingthe onnetions between the various speies that rawled, hopped, and lumbered past him.

    2. Abused (MArK 10:42-45).

Te beautiul exerise o authority in the Garden o Eden was twisted as soon as sin entered theworld. Te reation rebelled against the rulership o man. Plants grew thistles, animals grewstubborn, and predators looked at us and smelled blood. Te reation rose up against us withtsunamis and tornadoes, sending us running and hidingdesperate or help.

Even though sin orrupted human authority, it didnt remove it. Mankind remains poweruland inuential, able to do astonishing and terrible things. Tat authority and rule over reation isevidened in the way that reation has been tamed and manipulated to build ities and nations. Itsseen in the way we are or animals and prove mathematial theorems. Even so, in a world o sin,our mismanagement o authority an have devastating onsequenes.

Jesus reognized the worldly way o exerising authority. In a quiet rebuke to His disiples as theyeleted themselves or position o authority in His oming kingdom, Jesus exposed the sinul use o

authority and then pointed to Himsel as the example o servant leadership.Notie that Jesus mentioned rulers and kings who abuse authority. We see this kind o abuse on

display all the time. In some amilies, men beome tyrants, dominating women and hildren withabusive power. Authority gets abused in shoolyards and online as bullies lord strength or positionover others. All o these are signs that authority has gone wrong. We abuse authority. Our ability torule wisely over reation has been severely hampered by sin.

In a world dominated by this kind o authority and destrution, what is the way orward? What isthe hope or a world o petty tyrants, bent on dominating or their own selsh gain? What is a better

way to live than just bikering and lamoring or spae at the top o our ladders and ood hains?

Te answers to these questions are ound in Jesus. In a world dominated by sinul srambling orpower, Jesus told us that its better to serve than be served. Tis isnt the abandonment o authority, but the restoration o its proper exerise.

    3. reestAblished (rev. 5:9-10).

Jesus humble sarie hanged the way authority works in the world, and it sends the ourse ohistory in a new, hopeul diretion. Instead o a steady marh to destrution, we see a steady ow oresurretion. Where death reigned through Adam, lie reigns through christ.

One day, reation will be restored, a glorious kingdom with christ at the enter, ruled and reignedover by Gods redeemed. Look how the apostle John desribed the day o restoration:

Tis passage opens up the veil o the uture to us, allowing us a brie glimpse o the glory thatawaits the hildren o God. Jesus blood has not only satised Gods wrath against sin; its purhasedHis ollowers and brought them into Gods amily, making a new kingdom o priests that will rulethe new-made world. Trough His blood, we will one again reet the glory o God rightly.

While preahing about the wonder o that new world and the glorious inheritane the saints haveas heirs and o-rulers o that new-made world, charles Spurgeon delared: We shall see his ae; thedevils in hell annot hinder it; we shall possess the promised rest, still the ends that are beneath shallnot rob us o the heirloom. And, believer, there is no ear that christ shall be the possessor o nothingor heir o little things. He is the Son o God the innitely rih, and God will not give to his Son apetty dowry or a triing portion. Weigh the rihes o christ in sales and his treasures in balanesand then think to ount the treasures whih belong to the saints. Reah the bottom o christs sea o

joy, and then hope to understand the bliss whih God hath prepared or them that love him. Overleapthe boundaries o christs possession i you an, and then dream o ending a limit to the possessionso the elet o God. All things are yours, or ye are christs and christ is Gods.

Te reation projet, whih went of the rails with Adam, will one day be omplete with christ.Te garden will be replaed with a ity, and the hildren o Adam and Eve, redeemed in Jesus, willbeome a kingdom o rulers.

    conclusion

Te image o God has taken a beating under the reign o sin and death. Humanity, at times, appearsto be ull o glory and wonder. Great ahievements in art, sienes, and harity have been evidenedalongside horri abuses, soial deay, poverty, and global war.

As christians, we have an inredible hope. Jesus promised to return and reign orever. We anexperiene oretastes o it now, as we live sariially and humbly in his ootsteps, and with saints

throughout history, we an look orward to the day when those oretastes are ullled with a east inthe New city. So what better way to antiipate that day than to bekon others to repent and believe,to join us or the east? Lets delare the exellenies o King Jesus as we represent His loving reign inour world.
