At Enngonia PS, we acknowledge and pay our respects to elders past, present and future and extend that respect to all Aboriginal people

we live and work with, for they hold the hopes and dreams for the future of our country.

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Hello!

I am Enngonia Public School’s new POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR for LEARNING mascot. I am

here to help the students learn to grow and play together, BUT I need a name. Can you think of

the perfect name for me?

A respectful

student welcomes new

staff and students by

showing them their best behaviour.

A responsible student helps new staff and

OUR NEW PBL MASCOTS Wow. Our PBL mascot has been almost a year in the making but she and her baby are finally here!

You might remember that earlier in the year we held a student competition to draw our mascot, and

the lucky winner was Jimmy. Jimmy’s design was sent off to a professional graphic designer who,

in consultation with Jimmy, turned the drawing into a reproducible design. You can still see Jimmy’s

initials on the tail of our mumma.

Now for the fun part! We need a name for our mother mascot and we need your help. We are holding

a competition to name the mother kangaroo and this competition is open to ALL residents of

Enngonia. The winner will receive gift vouchers to Home Hardware and IGA to the total value of

$100.00.

How to enter

To enter, you can:

fill in the form attached to this newsletter and send it to school with your child

grab an entry form from the Oasis, fill it in and pop it in the box provided

comment on the school’s Face Book page under the post relating to our mascot

You can enter as many times as you like! Entries close Monday, the 7th of December at 9am.

The winning entry will be chosen by our students.

A second competition to name the ‘joey’ will be held for students of EPS only and the winning student

entry will receive a very special prize. (Students can also enter the above competition too.)

So, don’t delay. Get you entries in!

VARIATIONS TO THE NORMAL SCHOOL DAY Next Thursday and Friday we have special events happening.

Jandra/Bourke Excursion

On Thursday, 26th November, we are headed to Bourke where we will ride on the Jandra and have

lunch at the Bowling Club. Because of this, recess and lunch will be at different times to a normal

day. You will not need to pack any food on this day as we will be providing both recess and lunch.

If you have not paid or returned your note for this excursion please do so as soon as possible.

Science Day

On Friday, 27th of November there will be a free Science Show at our school. Wanaaring Public

School will be joining us for this event and will be providing a special lunch for us all. Please note

that both recess and lunch will be at different times to a normal day. Recess will be at

approximately 10.30am and lunch will be at approximately 12.30pm. You will need to provide

recess on this day but not lunch.

Wonderful Writing

The sugar gliders have been

writing up a storm this

fortnight. We have written

about the books we’ve read,

what we did on mid-term

break and even used pictures

to help with our creativity.

Have a read and see what

you think!

Kindergarten Transition

Kindergarten 2020 transition has started! The

Sugar Gliders have been amazing role models to

Jazarli, Barney and Sadler who are starting

Kinder next year. We listened to a story and

made a beautiful artwork to match. We also got

in the kitchen to cook some delicious honey

joys!

Busy Bees

It might be term 4 but we are still

working up a storm. Check out this

amazing multiplication array work and

hanging out with the Bilbies

NAIDOC WEEK

Over the past week, we have celebrated NAIDOC Week in

preschool. This usually takes places halfway through the year,

but was postponed because of COVID-19. We continued our

daily Acknowledgement, paying our respects to the Muruwari,

Kunja and Budjiti people on whose land we play and learn. The

children are able to identify some Muruwari people (Tiana, Evie)

and Kunja people (Trish).

We looked at the whole video of ‘I am Australian’ and discovered

an Aboriginal version of this song. The children kept asking if

they could watch this version, sung in the Yawuru language from

Broome, Western Australia. They try to sing along with the

words.

We watched an online version of our favourite story How the

Birds got their Colours and the children read the story with Miss

Marny. We also watched the story about the greedy frog Tidalick.

The preschoolers worked together to hang up the Aboriginal and

Torres strait Islander Hall of Fame pictures around the school.

We talked about these great role models, such as Adam Goodes,

and listened to songs by Christine Anu.

On Wednesday we welcomed the first all-Indigenous NSW fire

crew to our room with all school children. Some preschoolers

were brave enough to ask questions. In the middle session we

participated in a range of Doing Things Together Day activities

together with the older kids.

Preparing for kindergarten

We have started transition sessions for children who will attend

kindergarten at our school next year. Barney, Jazarli and Sadler

have participated in activities in kindergarten and the Sugar Gliders

have cooked with us in the preschool room. The children did an

amazing job, showing that they are getting ready for more

structured learning!
