SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP SPOTLIGHT- GARDENING WITH PHILStudent Reflections:Allira Mc enjoyed painting her pot, planting the vegetables in the school garden and tasting the fruit/herb infused drinks. She learned the importance of gardening and that it is really fun to do.Cooper M enjoyed the blind test taste game where his team had to guess what fruit or herb the water tasted like and creating his succulent garden. While learning how to plant vegetables, he was surprised that one little punnet can be split into multiple plants.Pippa M enjoyed painting her pot, planting her succulent garden and the vegetables in the school garden. She learned that succulent plants can grow by planting a single leaf or stem in potting mix.Austin B enjoyed learning how to plant vegetables correctly and watering both his succulent and the school vegetable gardens. He also enjoyed tasting and guessing what fruit or herb was in the water.Everyone in the gardening group is looking forward to checking the growth of their succulent gardens and the school vegetable gardens. They are also keen to eventually eat some of the produce the group has planted and grown for Jenny to use in the canteen.

Dear families,We are planning a school-wide celebration of NAIDOC week, beginning Week 1, Term 3. As part of the recognition of this important week, on the Friday of Week 1 (16th July) we would like to invite any of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander family members, caregivers or community members to share some of their knowledge, stories or activities with our school.

The activities could include but are not limited to, art, dance, cooking, games, outdoor activities or storytelling. A teacher would be there to support the running of the activity and supervise students.

If this is something that interests you, please contact Zach Jackson and he will be able to assist you further in any organisation. [email protected]

Affirming a girl’s inner and outer beautyThe importance of a father affirming his daughter’s inner and outer beauty. As your daughter grows she will look to you to get the answer to the question, am I beautiful?

From a young age it’s important you affirm her beauty, you should do this in ways that not only speaks to her physical appearance but also what’s inside that makes her beautiful. By communicating this, you’ll let her know there is more to beauty than ‘prettiness’. This will help her to grow into a confident woman with self-worth.

Ways to affirm your daughter’s beauty:

• Tell her she’s beautiful because she is compassionate, kind, thoughtful and honest.

• Her personality shines, she is full of life and energy and makes others smile.• Compliment her choice of outfit or new hair-do.• Emphasise her inner beauty when she might be questioning her looks or her

body-image. She is beautiful the way she is!
