NQOBILE MTOLO>>[email protected]

SCORESof iratePMBtaxiownersrecentlymarched from Imbali to the City Hall todemand answers on how they will

benefit from the Integrated Rapid PublicTransport Network (IRPTN) bus project.

The project was launched in Msunduzi in2012.

Thegroupofmorethan50taxiownerssaidthat they only discovered through local news-paper articles that plans to enrol this busproject in PMB were on the horizon.

Last week Friday, parts of Chief AlbertLuthuli (Commercial) Road were closed offdue to the march.

The group of taxi owners, led by NjabuloNkomo, arrivedoutside thecityhall looking tomeet with Municipal Manager Mxolisi Nkosi, and sang “Akavele phela uNkosi sifuna

ukukhulumanaye.(WewanttospeaktoNkosi.He should come outside so that we can speakwith him).

Some taxi owners shouted, “We wouldrather die than see the bus project beingimplemented. The bus systemwill not see thelight of day. Themunicipality should f#$%off. It isbettertodiethantogothroughthisabuse.”

Speaking to the Echo,Nkomo said that theIRPTNprojectwoulddestroythetaxi industry.

He said that the bus project will cause ashortage of passengers for the taxi industryand financially cripple it.

“Wewerenot told that therewouldbeabussystem operating in Pietermaritzburg. Wehave 4000 taxi drivers and 4000 sliding doortaxi conductors. What will happen to these8000 people?

“Themunicipalityshouldstateinblackandwhitehowwewillbenefitfromthisprojectand

that our operations will not be affected. Wecannot be led by the South National TaxiCouncil (Santaco) people who are paid by thegovernment. The buses will take away ouronly bread and butter,” said Nkomo.

Nkomo said that the march was notorganized by Santaco, nor the local taxialliance.

He said that after waiting outside the cityhall for 30 minutes, five taxi owners wereasked to meet with Nkosi inside.

After 20 minutes, the men were usheredback outside. The men were mandated tocomebackwithalistoftheirgrievancesbythispast Monday.

“Nkosi said that if we see that there aredivisionswithin the taxi industry, thenationalDepartment of Transport can be contacted tostop the transfer of funds for the projectwhilewesortoutthecurrentsituation,”saidNkomo.

In 2012, the Msunduzi Municipality launched the R3 billionIRPTN project to improve the PMB transport system.

This public transport project is set to alleviate trafficcongestion in the city, reduce the carbon copy and createjobs. PMB is one of 12 cities in the country identified by theDOT to implement the IRPTN. This bus system will boastcontrolled timetables and every aspect will be monitoredto ensure convenience for passengers.

At the launch of the project, Msunduzi Mayor Chris Ndlelasaid that the ticketing system would be designed in sucha way that there will be integrated fares which can be usedfor different modes of transport.

Freedom Square Park has been earmarked as the IRPTNcontrol centre and this will cost R215million to construct. This centre’s main function will be to control and managethe routes and movements of buses for timeousdeparture and arrival times at various destinations.

Nkosi recently told the Executive Committee (Exco) thatthe municipality will go on tender for the construction ofthe transport hub, once they have secured funds.

Last year October, the uMgungundlovu RegionalTaxi Council steering committee and the MsunduziMunicipality signed a memorandum of agreement at theCity Hall.

Msunduzi mayor Chris Ndlela said that he was thankfulthat this memorandum of agreement would close a hugecommunication gap which has existed for years betweenthe taxi council and the municipality.

ARV’s to start earlierNOMPENDULO NGUBANE>>[email protected]

DEPARTMENT of Health Minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledihas announced that as of 1 January 2015, HIV patientswill start on antiretroviral (ARV) treatment on a 350CD4 count rather than the 500 CD4 count which is thecurrent ARV intake level.

The minister announced this last month as he waspresenting the budget for his department.

HIV positive pregnant women will also start on alifelong ARV treatment called the B+ option. Currently, women with CD4 counts above 350 only take antiretroviral therapy until they stop breastfeeding.

The department is examining the two methods.Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) provincial

coordinator Mzamo Zondi said that people startingtreatment must be accurately informed about thebenefits and potential disadvantages of startingtreatment earlier.

“People must be made aware that the evidence isnot yet clear whether it is better for their health to starttreatment at a CD4 count of 500 or to wait until theirCD4 count drops below 350. People should also be informed that taking the treatment will reduce the riskof transmitting HIV to their sexual partners.”

An HIV positive patient who spoke to Echo said thatshe is happy with the minister’s announcement.

“This could decrease the number of people dyingof HIV. I think the department have rolled uptheir sleeves and are taking the issue of HIV veryseriously. The introduction of one pill to HIVpatients was a great move and hopefully with thenew ARV intake, this will have a positive outcome,” shesaid.

THE National Groen Sebenza (GreenWork) programme began in May 2014,with 800 young graduates andmatricu-

lants with an interest in and passion for theenvironment being selected from predomi-nantly rural parts of South Africa.

TheGroenSebenzaprogramme, fundedbytheDevelopmentBankofSouthAfrica (DBSA),iscoordinatedbytheSouthAfricanBiodiversi-ty Institute (SANBI).

Thetwoandahalfyearprogrammeseestheyoung ‘pioneers’ placed with various hostorganisations, like Wildlands ConservationTrust, which provides them with skills andexperience that will lead to environmentalcareer opportunities.

The role of host institutions like theWildlands Conservation Trust is to introducethe pioneers into the sector, addressingpriority skills shortages and giving them thementorship and training they need to developthemselves further before entering thecompetitive South African job market.

Wildlands Conservation Trust is host to 38pioneers.

Each were placed with mentors forguidance and to learn from their experience.

NGIBHALA le ncwadi uku-lungisa incwadi ebhalwe uS-bonelo Gutha Gwala wase-

Ashdown yakhishwa kwiMaritz-burg Echo mhla zingu-3 July 2014.

Okokuqala nje le ncwadi iqalangamanga okuthi ikhansela lakwa-ward23alihlali kwaward23.Ngok-wazi kwami ilokishi lase-Ashdownikhansela elihlala kulo likuward 23.

Okwesibili okungamanga kulencwadi ukuthi ikhansela alazi luthongobugebengu obenzeka kulesi sig-ceme.Miningikakhuluimihlanganoyomphakathi, ibizwa yikomidi len-tuthukonekhansela ngokuhlangan-yela necommunity policing forum(CPF) ngodaba lobugebengu.

Eminye yayo ibihanjelwa ngishonangosigaxa-mabhandebamaphoyisa asePlessislaer.

Udaba lobugebengu lungenyeyezinselelo izwe lonke elibhekenenazo, oludinga ukusebenzisanaokuthe thuthu phakathikwamaphoyisa, umphakathi, kanyenezinhlaka ze CPF esesizenzile em-phakathini wethu.

Sizoqhubeka futhi nokuqinisa le-zi zakhiwo zeCPF emphakathiniyethuukuzeudabalobugebengusig-cine silunqobile.

Lamangaombhali, anhlosoyawoukudicilela phansi isithunzisekhansela elikhona kwazise umb-hali lo (Mnuz Sbonelo Gutha Gwala)wabe esevele esetshele abantuabaningi ukuthi uzoba yikhanselangonyaka wezi-2011 okwagcinakungaphumelelanga, naphezukokuba esethandazelwe wahalal-iselwa njengomuntu owayezoba yi-

lo.Okudumaza kakhulu ngombhali

ukuthi manje ngokuqonda kwamiakaseyenaumgqugquzeliweqembulepolitiki eliphikisayo (DA) kodwausabuyela kwinhlangano ebusayouKhongolose (ANC) kodwaasikhumbuli nangolulodwa usukueveza le mibono yakhe eqenjini, okuphambene nendlela esisebenzangayo kuKhongolose.

Ngeluleka ukuthi ngokuzayoafunde ukuxoxa izinto ngaphakathi

eqenjini lakhe kuqala ngaphambikokuthi ahambise izinto ezinga-manga emaphephandabeni okun-gagcina kudicilele phansi ngishoisithunzi senhlanganoebusayaeng-ingakholwa ukuthi lokhu kuy-inhlosoyakhenokuyikonaakubuye-la kwi-ANC.

Iselulekosesibilisamahhalafuthiukuthi uma umbhali eseqala imi-khankaso yokhetho olulandelayo(2016), kumele azi ukuthi inhlanga-no ebusayo ayikayigunyazi imi-khankaso yokhetho lamakhanselalango-2016, kodwa futhi nanomaisigunyaziwe akuyona indlela oku-qhutshwa ngayo imikhankaso kwa-Khongolose.

Akukhankaswa ngamanga ema-phephandabeni.

Lesi senzo sakhe singenza aban-tu baze baqale ukubungabazaubuholibakheumaevezaukungeth-embeki okubonwa ngisho nayin-gane encane. Izinhlangano nomaamaqembu omphakathi angenzinzuzo banelungelo eliphelelelokusebenzisa ihholo lomphakathibelandela umgomo nemibandelaebekwe ngumthetho wokuqashwakwamahholo kamasipala njengobavele ekhona amaqembu om-phakathi alisebenzisayo.

Amaqembu amaningi umbhaliakhuluma ngawo, nami ngiyawaziimpela kodwa ngikhumbula ukuthingifike esahlakazeka awahlaka-zwanga amakhansela, singajabulafuthi uma engaphinde avuke azith-athe.

CLLR DUMISANI PHUNGULAWard 23

Bambalwa abanjengawe HlokohlokoMHLELI: Uma kuhambe ilungu emndenini ebelikadeliwusizo kuvuleka esikhulu isikhala kulowo mndeni.Kanjalo noma kuhambe ilungu lomphakathi ebelihlala licabangela abaswele futhi lilekelela nanoma ikuphi, nanoma ingani lapho lingakwazi khona kubanomgodi omkhulu ovulekayo.

Lanangifunaukukhulumangobuhlungubokudlula buka Baba uNdodo Madlala obengusomabhizinisiomdala endaweni yaseNhlazatshe. Eyi! indlela abesiza ngayo kulo mphakathi iyamangalisa. Bekungeyena ngisho umuntu othanda ukukhuluma kodwaubenomoya ophansi.

Uyizabalezele le ndawo impilo yakhe yonke ukuzeithole okungcono. Akekho ongaphika ohlala kuyonaukuthi inehholo nje namhlanje ngenxa yokuzabalazakwakhe. Mhlawumbe abaningi bangakuthokozelanokuthi liqanjwe ngaye naleli hholo.

Uqale ukuzabalaza kudala ngezikhathi zoUDF

kwaze kwathi noma sekuvulwa umlomo inhlanganokaANC, waqhubekela phambili. Impilo yakhe yonkeuyiphilele ukusiza abangakwazi ukuzisiza. Ubengabekile inzuzo phambili kodwa abantu abahluphekayo. Abasandile abantu abafana naye kulesi sikhathisamanje.

Angikholwa ukuthi sisayomthola ofana naye.Osomabhizinisi abanye bakhale kakhulu

ngokushywa umuntu obakhulise kakhulu kulo mkhakha wokuphathwa kwezitolo. Babuza sebezoboniswa ubani manje. Ngisho sekwande le mfashini yokuqashisa izitolo zasemalokishini kubantu bokuhamba, yena akakwenzanga neze lokho.

Uzibambele kwaze kwasekugcineni. Lalangokuthula Sishi, Hlokohloko, Khabalidaka, Dlobeni!

MFANAFUTHI JIKA PANTSULA NZUZAESIGINGQINI

Kungcono ukuzondelwa iqinisoMHLELI: Ezikhathini eziningi iningi lethulincenga ubungani ngokuphila impilo yamanga. Kuyingozi ukuba ungamtsheliumngani wakho iqiniso ngoba uncengeubungani.

Kunabantu abalahlekelwa abanakhongenxa yokuthi basondelene nabantuabazitshela ukuthi abangani kanti basondele ukuze bazuze okuthile bese beyahamba. Ingozi enkulu ukuthi utshele umuntuinto afuna ukuyizwa ngasosonke isikhathingoba uncenge ubungani.

Kuncamele ukuba ningezwani nomngani wakho kodwa umtshelile iqiniso, umaenomqondo naye uzothi uma eseyedwaesejula, athi wangitshela ezikabhoqoumngani wami. Uma engumuntu okwaziyo ukuzehlisa, uyobuyela kuwe akuxhawule, akubonge ngokuthi umtsheleiqiniso, hhayi lokhu abefuna ukukuzwa.

Kuyinkingake ukuba nomngani ophezulu kakhulu kunawe (onempakamongoba enotho) ngoba kakulula ukumehlisa. Ukuba notho kakusho ukuthi sekumele ushintshe abangani, baqaphele futhiabantu abazisondeza kuwe ngoba sewunotho, babekuphi ngalesi khathi usahlupheka.

Uneqiniso kangakanani abazukudonsela phansi bese kuhleka bona kuqala?Kumnandi ukulalela uma abantubekubonisa ngoba kukhona into engenzeka phambi kwakho kodwa ungabuboniubungozi bayo, ize ibonwe ngoseceleni.Okuthanda ngeqiniso uyokuqaphelisangayo kodwa ongakuthandi ngeqinisouyothi ‘’bengithi uyayibona’’, esho seyikulimazile.

Ngiyabuthanda ubungani obuneqinisoobungezubheka ukuthi akutshela kona

kwehla kanjani.Kunabantu abangena kwizehlukaniso

ngoba babengekho abangani beqiniso, ababebatshela ngobungozi bezinto ababezifaka kuyo. Abantu ababacebisa babatshela lokhu okwakungena kamnandiezindlebeni zabo, okwakuphambene neqiniso.

Kungcono ukuzondwa uzondelwe ukukhuluma iqiniso okunokuthanda uthandelwe ukukhuluma amanga.

Bekungakuhle uma abantu behlisaukuzithwala, ngoba kunabantu okulikhuniukubatshela itshe elingase libaqhuzulengoba bahambela phezulu.

Ukuba nemali kakusho ukuthi sewazikonke, ukuba nesikhundla kakusho ukuthisewazi konke, kuyokusiza ukulalela nelempofana (ngingasho iKaizer) ukuze nayoikuthokozele ukuthi yake yacebisa umuntuofana nawe.

Empilweni uma usaphila ungafundaokuningi kubantu. Ungabheki izingalomuntu kodwa bheka akusho kuwe, ngoba asiphiwe ngendlela efanayo.Siqapheleabantuesizifakakubosingahlalinezimpisi kanye nosomathuba.

Singabi nobungani obuyimpoqo, sekumele uncetheze kumuntu ngoba nakhunje azi izimfihlo zakho.

Ukhumbule ukuthi into oyixoxele umngani wakho kayiseyona imfihlo. Uma yehlule wena mnikazi wayo ukuyigcina, umngani wakho uzoyigcina kanjani. Imfihlo yakho akube ngeyakho ukuze ube nobunganiobuhle, ixoxe kumngani wakho indabangoba ufuna akucebise okungesiyo imfihlo.

You are soft, curvaceous, loving being. You wear you crown inglorious patterns, wavy shapes and delightful colour. You aregraceful, beautiful and even, at times, elegant. You are sweetas marshmallows, irresistible as roast chicken, sometimes yourgenius self counts more than a croissant recipe. You are awoman! A divine being! Let us pay tribute to all the women

who marched in 1956 to the Union Building, protesting againstPass laws. And let us, in this generation, protest against rape

and cruelty shown to children, let us burn bras again, Let us beheard, because who else will nurture this world.

Fiftyeight years ago, about 20 000 women marched to the Unionbuildings to protest against the carrying of passes. They fought fortheir voices to be heard. This day reminds me of the power withina woman to bring about societal change, and to achieve whatevershe has set her mind to. We have been privileged enough to livein a postmodern South Africa, where society is not as patriarchalas it used to be. We have women political leaders, policy makersand women venturing into previously male dominated industries. Thisalone proves that through hard work and determination, the world isour oyster. While the struggle for women emancipation continues, let uswork together in developing one another instead of pulling one anotherdown. Most of all, as we celebrate our month, let us each take some time togive ourselves selflove. Let us each take a moment to reflect on whetherwe are still carrying the legacy of the women of 1956.

CHEVROLET, Isuzu and Opel continued thetrend of strong sales in July, giving GeneralMotors South Africa (GMSA) a 10.1% share ofthe market for the month.

Total South African new passenger vehiclesalesinJulystoodat57 670,and5 821ofthesewere from the GMSA stable.

This allowed the company to rise above thetrend, despite the South African motorindustrydecliningby4.7% for theperiod fromJanuary to July, compared to the same periodlast year. July also had 23 selling days, whichhad a positive impact on the overall market.

“July saw Chevrolet models, including theSpark,CruzeandCaptiva, surpassallprevioussales records achieved in 2014. The finalnumberswere1 020 for theSpark,199 for the

Captiva and 356 for the Cruze,” said BrianOlson, GMSA vice-president of vehicle sales, service and marketing.

“The sixth generation Isuzu KB is enjoyingthe brand’s highest share of the one-tonsegment in five years as 1 379 Isuzu KBpickups were sold in July,” said Olson.

“In addition, the Opel Corsa, Astra, andMeriva each recorded their best retailperformances for thisyear.Opelvolumeshavenow increased by 54% so far this year, whencompared to January to July 2013.

“This illustrates that South Africans areechoing the sentiments of European buyers, who are loving the Opel brand and causing itto enjoy a resurgence in the market.” -Supplied.

range of advanced onboard technologies.

Interior styling was led by the brand’sdesign team in Frankfurt, Germany, which cited the finest modern Swisswatches as a key influence during the design phase. The smoothly contouredcabin features softtouch materials,

Despite United coach SteveKomphela being unable to use themajority of his new signings or a line-up of his choice, he had the guts tothrow a few youngsters in the deepend. Possibly the only great concernfor Komphela should be hisdefenders.

Last night (Wednesday) the Teamof Choice played their first leaguegame at home at the Harry Gwala stadium againstPolokwaneCity. Therewas no result at the time of goingto print.
