Introductionto Dance
Dance refers to movement ofthe body, usually rhythmic and to
music. Itis an art form whichis used as a form of expression,
social interaction or presented in a spiritual or performance kind
of a setting.
Dance may also be regarded as a form ofnon-verbalcommunication betweenhumans.

Classical Dance InIndia
Itis one ofthe oldest ofthe classical dance forms inIndia and is
also known as the fifth Veda.
Bharatanatyam is usually accompanied by SouthIndian classical
music.
Ithas its inspirations from the sculptures ofthe ancienttemple of
Chidambaram.
Bharatanatyam is considered to be a fire dance. It portrays the
mystic manifestation ofthe metaphysical element of fire inthe
human body.
The movements of an authentic Bharatanatyam dancer resemble
the movements of a dancing flame.

Bhangra and Gidha
Folk Dance is a form of dance developed by a group of people,which reflects traditional life of people of certain region.
Bhangra: Performed duringthe festival of Baisakhi. Amongthemost virile and captivating dances ofIndia, itis undertaken by menand includes tricks and acrobatic feats. The drummer, usually inthecentre ofthe circle, is surrounded by men dressed in lungis andturbans.
Gidha: The dance is performed by the women folk of Punjab. Inthis
dance form, a woman or a pair of women dances at a time, while theothers surround them and clap in rhythm. The dance is mainlyperformed duringthe festival of Teeyan, to welcome the rains.

MICHAEL JACKSON, I WOULD RATHER CALL THE DANCEFORM MICHAEL JACKSON THAN BREAK DANCING WHICHrefers to the breaks in music, and the movements that can beassociated withthese breaks.
It emerged relatively recently, from the Bronx inthe 1970.Several
moves are inspired from Kung-fu, and once ortwo have supportactions that are almost balletic. Breakdancingis associated withthestreets of New York, and often when competingteams would danceto win, a real fight would break out.
Breakdancers typically wear low pants, T-shirts and a hattippedsideways. The dance must be done in sneakers, forthe dancer'ssafety. Breakdancingis known as an especially dangerous sport forseveral reasons.

Ballet
Ballet is a formalized kind of performance dance, which originated in
the Italian Renaissance courts ofthe 15th century, and which was
further developed in France, England, and Russia as a concert
dance form.
Itis primarily performed withthe accompaniment of classical music.
This type of dancingis very hard to achieve and takes much practice
to master.
Ballet dance is differentiated from other forms of dance by its
precise movements and formal gestures and poses.

It requires high level of practice to be able to perform this highly
skilled form of dance, along with concentration.
It requires the dancerto have qualities like strength, elegance,
grace, patience and mostimportantly the passion.

Salsa
Salsa is syncretic dance form with origins from Cuba, as the originalmeeting point of European and African cultures.
Its movements originate inCuban Son, with stronginfluences fromMambo, Guaguanco, and other Afro-Cuban music.
Salsa is normally a partner dance, althoughthere are recognized
solo forms, line dancing (suelta), and Rueda de Casino wheregroups of couples exchange partners in a circle.
Salsa traces a 90 yearhistory in whichthere are a multipleevolutionary paths, sometimes split due to political and socialinfluences.
As result, today, there are three major salsa styles,
1. Cuban Salsa (Casino),2. New York Style ("Mambo on 2")
3. Los Angeles Style ("On 1").
Other Salsa branches include Colombian Salsa ("Cali-Style") andMiami-Style Salsa

Bachata
Bachata has its origins inthe Dominican Republic
The Bachata dance is considered to be a passionate and sensual
kind of expression of love through dance its story-tellinghumor also
depicts women overpowering men
The dance is a four-step beat achieved with a walkingCubanhipmotion, the male leads the female with subtle communication.
The style developed in Europe and US is lifting ortapping a foot or
using stylish footwork while poppingthe hip to the side opposite of
the natural Cubanhip motion.
The dance was then used as a means of merrymaking ofthe peopleinthe village.
