In The News

Reminder—Kids Are Back to School What is the most dangerous part of a child’s school bus ride? The bus stop! Children are at greatest risk when they are getting on or off the school bus. Please keep our children safe—stop when school bus lights are flashing; and/or the red stop sign arm is extended. And never, EVER, pass a stopped school bus on the right side! Safety first! An Awesome Networking Story Chamber member Jane Sanchez (Hinsdale Travel) shared a story at the recent networking breakfast. A question was provided for discussion about the uses of social media. She related a different kind of social experience—she related she had a tee shirt on from Celebrity cruises, and was leaving her office parking lot and the car next to her had a guy getting out, saw her tee shirt, said that he had been on a Celebrity cruise and liked it. He and his fiancé were just getting their engagement photo's taken in her building and after meeting her in the parking lot decided to book a cruise for their honeymoon through Hinsdale Travel. Great social networking! 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten The Indian Prairie Library Program, 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten, encourages families and caregivers to read 1,000 books with their children before they enter kindergarten. Children who complete 1,000 books will receive a free paperback book to keep and will join the library’s 1000 Books Before Kindergarten “Wall of Fame”. Visit 1000books.ippl.info for more information.

VILLAGE UPDATES Burr Ridge—

Willowbrook—Mark Shelton (Willowbrook Police Dept)

VILLAGE OF WILLOWBROOK

Willowbrook Honors Retiring Police K-9 Willowbrook Village officials took time August 24th to praise the skills, work ethic and dedication of Icha, the village’s first-ever police canine. She played a key role in tracking suspects and seizing narcotics with a street value of well more than $1 million. Among the parting gifts was a bag of Milk-Bone Dog Treats. The village recognized Police Office Dave Gaddis for being a fantastic canine officer and doing a tremendous job. Although Icha is retiring from active police work, Gaddis will continue to serve the village as a police officer. Their days together will continue as well, as Gaddis is permanently adopting Icha into his family. The Village Board approved the sale of Icha to Gaddis for the sum of $1.

VILLAGE OF BURR RIDGE Another Successful Concert Season Thank you all for joining us for “Concerts on the Green” this summer. We hope you’ve enjoyed them as much as we have! A big thanks as well to the Corproate Sponsors and the BurrRidgeHo-tels.com for sponsoring and underwriting the costs of the concerts. See you next summer! Resident Survey Now Online Burr Ridge residents are being asked to com-plete the Resident Community Service Survey by October 15th. This can be completed online and is designed to give the residence input as to how well the Village is serving their needs. Residents can complete the survey online at www.burr-ridge.gove.
