My dear parishioners, This past Monday, I went to see the movie Love and Mercy: Faustina at the Regal Theater at Atlas Park. I saw seven other parishioners present, maybe there were others. As I mentioned at Mass, it was sold out and was only playing at one time (7pm) on that date. The theater was not prepared for the large crowd that came. I believe they moved it to a larger theater but then that messed up the majority of the ticket holders since it is reserved seat-ing. There was a lot of confusion and it caused people to be late finding seats. They started the movie at 7 pm, but had to stop it since so many people were not seated. There were not enough seats, so they brought in benches and office chairs for people to sit on. They started the movie again from the beginning at 7:40. It was wonderful to see such a large crowd and a few people came up to me to thank me for being there and in my collar. I was moved by the love for Jesus, St. Faustina and the Divine Mercy devotion. Before the movie began, there was a mini-documentary about a la-dy, Maureen Digan who received physical healing through devotion to Divine Mercy and the intercession of St. Faustina. This miracle led to the beatification of St. Faustina on April 18, 1993. The actual movie was more of a dramatic docu-mentary, meaning some scenes were with actors acting out the roles of St. Faustina, Blessed Michael Sopocko and others. Other scenes were commentaries by different bishops, priests, academics and experts of varied fields. Overall, I was impressed with the film and I learned a lot from it. I really did not know much about Blessed Mi-chael, who was St. Faustina’s confessor and spiritual di-rector. It was really through his efforts and diligence that the devotion to Divine Mercy spread throughout the world. The movie was not so much about the life of St. Faustina as it was a story about how the devotion of Di-vine Mercy spread throughout the world. After the credits rolled, there was another mini-documentary on the five devotions of Divine Mercy: the image, the chaplet of Divine Mercy, the feast day of Di-vine Mercy (which is the Sunday after Easter), the three o’clock mercy prayer and trust in His Divine Mercy. Overall it was very informative, moving and uplifting. There will be another opportunity to see it on Monday, December 2. The Regal Theater at Atlas Park will again be showing it at 7 pm, as well as a few theaters in Manhattan. If you use a smartphone, I recommend using the Regal app to purchase tickets ahead of time. Mis queridos feligreses, El lunes pasado, fui a ver la película Amor y Miseri-cordia: Faustina (Love and Mercy: Faustina) en el teatro Regal en Atlas Park. Vi a siete feligreses presentes allí, quizás hubo otros. Como les mencioné en la Misa, se agotaron los boletos y solo la pasaban una vez (7pm) ese día. El teatro no estaba preparado para la gran muchedumbre que fue. Creo que la trasladaron para un teatro más grande pero eso arruinó la mayoría de los que compraron boletos ya que los asientos son reservados. Hubo mucha confusión y causó que la gente se tardara en encontrar sus asientos. Comenza-ron la película a las 7pm, pero tuvieron que pararla ya que mucha gente no estaba sentada. No había suficientes sillas, así que trajeron bancas y sillas de oficina para que la gente se sentara. Comenzaron la película nuevamente desde el comienzo a las 7:40. Fue maravilloso ver una gran muchedumbre y varias personas se acercaron y me agradecieron por estar allí y vestido de clérigo. Me conmovió el amor a Jesús, a Santa Faustina y la devoción a la Divina Misericordia. An-tes de que comenzara la película, hubo un documental cor-to acerca de una dama, Maureen Digan quien recibió sana-ción física por medio de la devoción a la Divina Misericor-dia y la intercesión de Santa Faustina. Este milagro condujo a la beatificación de Santa Faustina el 18 de abril de 1993. La película realmente fue más un documental dra-mático, lo que quiere decir que algunas escenas fueron con actores haciendo el papel de Santa Faustina, Beato Michael Sopocko y otros. Otras escenas fueron comentarios de dife-rentes obispos, sacerdotes, académicos y expertos en varios campos. En general, me impresionó mucho la película y aprendí mucho de ella. Yo realmente no sabía mucho acer-ca del Beato Michael, quien fue el confesor y director espiri-tual de Santa Faustina. Fue realmente atraves de sus esfuer-zos y diligencia que la devoción a la Divina Misericordia se propagó por todo el mundo. La película no fue tanto acerca de la vida de Santa Faustina sino que fue una historia acer-ca de como la devoción de la Divina Misericordia se propa-gó por todo el mundo. Después que se acabaron los créditos, hubo otro corto documental acerca de las cinco devociones de la Divi-na Misericordia: la imagen, la coronilla de la Divina Miseri-cordia, el día festivo de la Divina Misericordia (el cual es el Domingo después del Domingo de Pascua), la oración de las tres de la tarde y confianza en Su Divina Misericordia. En general fue informativa, conmovedora y estimulante. Habrá otra oportunidad de verla el lunes 2 de di-ciembre. El Teatro Regal en Atlas Park la mostrará nueva-mente a las 7 pm, como también varios teatros en Manhat-tan. Si ustedes usan un teléfono inteligente, les recomiendo que usen la aplicación de Regal para comprar los boletos con anticipación. Que la Divina Misericordia de Jesús se derrame en todos nosotros. Choirs at St. Mary's Looking for New Members! Do you or your loved ones enjoy singing? Of course you do! Please consider joining the St. Mary's Adult Choir! We sing once a month on the 4th Sunday of the month at the 10 am Mass and we rehearse at 9:00 am right before the Mass. St. Mary's also offers an incredible chance for children to join a choir with the St. Mary's Children's Choir! The Children's Choir meets once a week on Wednesdays from 5-6 pm to practice our songs. The First Imperial-Wide Persecution of Christians did not Occur until the Third Century

In A.D. 249, Emperor Decius wished to restore the Roman golden age and issued the first ever imperial-wide decree or-dering the persecution of all those who refused to worship the Roman deities. The decree didn’t target Christians, exclusively, but it did mark the first time that the Christian faithful would have to choose publicly between worshipping the one true God or the emperor and all the gods and goddesses he estab-lished for worship. Another imperial-wide persecution broke out again in A.D. 303 under Emperor Diocletian, lasting in-termittently until Constantine signed the Edict of Milan in 313. La Primera Gran Persecución Imperial de Cristianos no se produjo hasta el Siglo III

En el año 249 A.D. el Emperador Decio quiso restaurar la era dorada Romana y emitió el primer decreto imperial ordenan-do la persecución de todos los que se negaran a adorar los dioses Romanos. El decreto no fue exclusivamente hacia los Cristianos, pero marcó el primer tiempo en que los feligreses Cristianos tendrían que escoger públicamente entre adorar al verdadero Dios verdadero o al emperador y todos los dioses y diosas que él estableció para adoración. Otra gran persecución imperial se desató nuevamente en el año 303 AD bajo el Em-perador Diocleciano, durando intermitentemente hasta cuando Constantino firmó el Edicto de Milán en 313.
