My dear parishioners, Happy Solemnity of Pentecost! We end our celebration of Easter as we recall the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the Blessed Mother and the Apostles in the upper room. During my retreat in Jerusalem back in March, I spent some time in the upper room where our Lord Jesus celebrated the Last Supper and also where the Holy Spirit came upon the Apostles at Pentecost. It is usually noisy with different groups inside. There were a few people when I went in, but then I found a spot on an old pillar to sit. I took out my Bible and read the three synoptic versions of the Institution of the Eucharist. At the end of that, the room was actually empty except for myself, I took a quick photo and de-cided on the spot to do something different. I took out my headphones, plugged them into my iPhone, and hit my playlist for the Holy Spirit. For a half-hour, I closed my eyes, extended my hands, ignored the entering crowds, listened to the songs calling on the Holy Spirit. I had also added Sarah Kroger’s Revelation Song which really pulled me into deeper prayer. The last song I listened to was Fall Afresh by Bethel Music…I sang qui-etly along with the refrain “Spirit of the living God come fall afresh on me, Come wake me from my sleep, Blow through the caverns of my soul, Pour in me to overflow...” After I was done with the music, I read the Resurrection account of John when Jesus comes into the Upper Room and then the Acts account of Pente-cost. It was another amazing prayer experience during this blessed time. I imagined the joy of the Apostles as the tongues of flame came down upon them and how they left the room to share that joy with others. We have received that same Holy Spirit in baptism and in confirmation and we should share that joy too. Let us call upon the Holy Spirit to move us to a deeper faith and not to be afraid to share that faith. Come Holy Spirit! Fr. O’Connor P.S. Mis queridos feligreses, ¡Feliz Solemnidad de Pentecostés! Terminamos nuestra celebración de la Pascua al recordar la efusión del Espíritu Santo a la Santísima Madre y los Apóstoles en el Cenáculo. Durante mi retiro en Jerusalén en marzo pasa-do, yo pasé cierto tiempo en el Cenáculo donde el Señor celebró la Ultima Cena y también donde Espíritu Santo vino sobre los Apóstoles en Pentecostés. Usualmente hay mucho ruido con diferentes grupos allí dentro. Había poca gente cuando yo fui, pero encontré un lugar en un viejo pilar para sentarme. Yo saqué mi Biblia y leí las tres versio-nes sinópticas de la Institución de la Eucaristía. Al termi-nar el salón estaba vacío excepto por mí, tomé una foto rápidamente y decidí en ese momento hacer algo diferen-te. Saqué mis audífonos, los enchufé a mi iPhone y escu-ché mi lista de cantos del Espíritu Santo. Por media hora, yo cerré mis ojos , extendí mis manos, ignoré la gente en-trando, escuché los cantos invocando al Espíritu Santo. Yo también agregué el canto de Sarah Kroger Revelation Song (Canto de Revelación) la cual verdaderamente me llevó a una profunda oración. El último canto que escuché fue Fall Afresh (Caer de Nuevo) de Música Bethel...yo can-té bajito el coro “Espíritu del Dios Vivo ven y cae sobre mí, Ven despiértame de mi sueño, Sopla a través de las caver-nas de mi alma, Vierte en mí para desbordar…” Después de terminar con la música, leí acerca de la Resurrección del Evangelio de San Juan cuando Jesús vino al Cenáculo y después leí Hechos de los Apóstoles de Pentecostés. Fue otra hermosa experiencia de oración durante ese bendeci-do tiempo. Me imaginé el gozo de los Apóstoles en lo que las llamas de fuego vinieron sobre ellos y como se sintie-ron al salir del salón e ir a compartir la alegría con otros. Nosotros hemos recibido ese mismo Espíritu Santo en el bautismo y en la confirmación y nosotros deberíamos compartir esa alegría también. Invoquemos al Espíritu Santo para que nos mueva a una fe más profunda y a no tener miedo de compartir esa fe. ¡Ven Espíritu Santo! Padre O’Connor P.S.
