Fourth Sunday of Easter
Cuarto Domingo de Pascua May 3, 2020
My dear parishioners, Last week in the Gospel we heard the account of the road to Emmaus and how the hearts of the disciples were burning as Jesus explained the Scriptures to them. This week I would like to share with you a way of pray-ing with Scripture. For my thesis for my Master’s in Di-vinity, I developed an in-home retreat program that would run for ten weeks. I had done it at my pastoral year parish as a seminarian and I had done it several times at previous assignments. I had come across a guide for pray-ing with Scriptures, but I do not recall where I got it from. So, these are not original thoughts of mine, but something I had found useful. Please use it as a way of praying with Scripture, it is called the “6 P’s.”
Prepare a Passage from Scripture and have it marked and ready.
Place. Where you are alone and uninhibited in your re-sponse to God’s presence.
Posture. Relaxed and peaceful. A harmony of body and spirit.
Presence of God. Be aware of it and acknowledge and respond to it. When you are ready turn to the
Passage. Read the passage from Scripture slowly and lis-ten attentively.
Pause.
Don’t be anxious. Don’t try to look for implications or lessons or profound thoughts or conclusions or resolu-tions. Be content to be like a child who climbs into its father’s or mother’s lap and listens to their words and stories.
Carry on a conversation with God about what you have heard. Think of God in the second person singular (“You”). Tell God what you are thinking and feeling. What would you give to God? What do you want of God?
Praying Scripture has nothing to do with “getting through” passages and books; it has everything to do with letting the meaning and values of each single word sink into your life.
After the period of prayer is over, it may be helpful to reflect back over the experience of prayer. This review will help you notice what the Lord is doing in your expe-rience. God bless,
Fr. O’Connor
No estés ansioso.
Padre O’Connor

Our Church History...
The Crusades Launched to Reclaim Christian Lands
When the Prophet Mohammed founded Islam, it was inevitable that Christians, Jews, and Muslims would eventually battle over land and resources. For centuries, Muslims conquered and killed Christians from Mecca eastward into Asia Minor, down through North Africa, and up into parts of Spain and southern France. When Pope Urban called for the First Crusade in 1095, almost two-thirds of Christian lands were ruled by Muslim lead-ers. Between 1095 and 1272, the Church sponsored sev-en or nine crusades (depending on how one chooses to categorize a crusade), while other, more sporadic at-tempts to recover Christian lands and holy sites oc-curred more frequently but much less systematically.

Historia de Nuestra Iglesia…
Las Cruzadas se Iniciaron para Reclamar las
Tierras Cristianas
