FROM OUR PRINCIPAL

Dear Bishop Ludden Community,

New beginnings, new promises; bettering ourselves. As

individuals or as a school community, we are looking to do more,

be more, to grow.

As research has shown, these self- promises go for about three

weeks, then we, as humans, fall back to what is comfortable and

familiar. I am no different. Every year it is the same thing. I

really wanted to exercise more, eat healthier, manage time better,

visit more, etc. You catch the drift.

All I ask is that we accept our human frailty, and not give up the

quest to make ourselves better and happier. When we slip, pick

ourselves up again, and renew the promise. We will slip again,

but we can always start over!

As we move forward to the mid- term, I ask the same

considerations:

Are we where we thought we would be academically?

Spiritually? Athletically? Emotionally?

What do we need to do to get back on track? Talk to the teacher?

Schedule a conference with parents and teachers? Practice more

and with more zeal? Go to Mass or chapel? Talk to guidance,

parents, or perhaps an outside counselor who can be objective

about my needs?

How can I make things better for myself?

Really, the answer to the questions is simply to communicate and

be open minded when doing so. It is so easy to jump to

conclusions before we have all the facts, or can discuss a best way

to go forward. Students need to learn the skill of going to the

source of the conflict and have an honest dialogue with that

person and/or themselves.

The Academic Committee of the Board of Trustees, led by Juanita

Williams, has asked our teachers and parent-teachers to discuss

best practices and ways for Ludden to excel. How can we fit all of

the new requirements in to the same 6 hour day? We are looking

to expand programs. We are looking for solutions to the time

problem. If anyone has any ideas, I would love to hear them!!

Happiest of New Years to you and your families. Continue to

pray for me and Bishop Ludden as we go forward into the

blessings of the New Year.

God bless you,

Mrs. Reichert

Wanted to point out as well that Joe, our custodian was

great, attending to all of our requests. Also want to let

you know that the following students/athletes from the

soccer team came over to help with the many children

we had in attendance: Justin Eisenhauer, Peter

Lockwood, Matt Lorenzo, Pat MaGarvey, Eric Emmons

Knight for a Day:

Students in grades six and above are

encouraged to become a “Knight for a Day”

and "shadow" a current Bishop Ludden

student. Students will be paired with one of

our student guides and attend classes, enjoy

lunch and participate in the day’s classes

and activities.

For more information on these activities,

please contact: Matt Oswalt

at 315.468.0053 or

email: [email protected]

Has any of your contact information

changed?

If so, please call the guidance office

(488-3237) and provide a new address, phone

number or email address. The majority of our

correspondence is done by email and we would

appreciate having current email addresses in

order to send vital information to you.

Health Office Reminder

All 7th and 10th Grade students and all

sports participants MUST have a recent

physical on file. If you have any questions

please call the Health Office at 459-7160.

Our student handbook clearly states that all students must be clean shaven each day they come to school. This

includes their upper lip, their chin, their lower sideburns and under the chin.

If they are not clean shaven, they will receive a detention

and will be asked to shave in our Health Office with a disposable razor or an electric razor. Please be assured

that we keep all shaving supplies completely sanitary.

If they refuse to shave, the parent will be called and will be given the option of convincing their child to shave here at

school, or to come and pick up their child to take them home to shave.

We truly hope that all students come to school clean shaven each day so that this never becomes an

issue.

On Thursday, December 1, the 9th graders went on their annual

retreat to Cathedral Academy at Pompei (CAP). The theme of the

retreat was Discipleship. One of the activities on retreat was

teaming up with the CAP students to create door tags for shut-

ins. Thank you to Fr. Daniel Caruso for celebrating mass for us!

“We are constantly called to be God’s disciples. We must listen

to what the Father wants of us. Our foundation must be on rock

and not sand. Our foundation is Christ alone. We must love God

first and then that love transpires to our neighbors. The call to

be a disciple is what is most important.” - Fr. Daniel Caruso

On Thursday, December 8th, Fr. Christopher Ballard celebrated the Solemnity of the Im-

maculate Conception Liturgy at Bishop Ludden. Great job to Ms. Kolinski and the 8th grad-

ers for organizing the Mass, Mr. Thompson and the band members for the beautiful music

and to Ms. Hallman and Mr. Thompson for singing and playing our communion song: Hail

Mary Gentle Women.

"God has a mission and plan for all of us.

When God asks you, will you say YES like

Mary did? Say YES and then allow the pow-

er of the most high to overshadow you." -

Fr. Chris Ballard

Thank you to our parish priests for coming to Ludden’s Advent Penance Service. The priests

heard close to 200 confessions from students, faculty and staff. We thank our priests for

your continued support, love and dedication to our Bishop Ludden community.

Church), Fr. Daniel Muscalino (St. Francis Xavier Church), Fr. James Fritzen (Christ the King Church), Fr. Jason Hage (Holy Family

Church), Fr. John Manno (Holy Family Church), Fr. Zachary Miller (Immaculate Conception Church), Fr. Frederick Mannara (Most

Holy Rosary Church), Fr. Thomas McGrath (St. Mary of the Lake Church), Msgr. Eugene Yennock (St. Daniel’s Church), Fr. Richard

Prior (Sacred Heart Church), and Fr. Christopher Ballard (St. James Church)

For the 7th grade service project, the students collected items for Joseph’s House for Women. On the morning of December 15, the 7th graders presented their dona-tions to Executive Director, Kitty Spinelli. Sarah Boyea, Bishop Ludden 7th grader, gave a testimony about what it meant to give to others and she wrote: “At this time of year it is very important to give to others who do not have as much as we do. Jo-seph’s House is such a great place and I am so glad that we were able to share in this experience and learn more about their mission.” Later that day Mrs. Spinelli posted the following on the Joseph’s House Facebook page: “A blustery morning gave way to such an incredibly warm welcome to Jo-seph's House! A heartfelt thank you to Amanda Webster & the seventh grade stu-dents from Bishop Ludden who collected wish list items for our JH family! Every-thing from food to cleaning supplies plus cuddly blankets for all our moms and kids from these young, generous hearts! We are blessed by your call to serve. Thank you so much!”

Great job to all our students! For more information about Joseph’s House for Women please see: www.jhfw.org

On Thursday, December 22, the Bishop Ludden community hosted a Dress Down Day for

Road to Emmaus Ministry of Syracuse, Inc. Students could either donate a dollar or food

donation. During the Christmas Spectacular assembly, senior Gabriella Parsons, presented

the items to Executive Director, Sheila Austin.

Sheila Austin posted the following on Emmaus Ministry Facebook page: “Thank you to the

students and staff of Bishop Ludden High School for your example of the true meaning of

Christmas through your generosity and care for the less fortunate. Pasta, sauce, peanut

butter, jelly and cereal were collected by the school for Emmaus Ministry's Loaves & Fishes

food pantry. Many hungry families on the south side will now have a little "extra" to eat

this month! Thank you and God bless!”

For more information about Emmaus Ministry please visit: www.stjamessyr.org

On Wednesday, December 21, the 8th graders had an assembly in the Campus Ministry Room to present their angel tree dona-

tions to Van Duyn Center. Van Duyn Recreation and Volunteer Coordinator Kerry Procopio wrote in letter to Bishop Ludden:

“The Residents, Staff and Families at Van Duyn Center wanted to

send a special thank you for your generous gifts to our Residents this

holiday season. Without your generosity we would not be able to

provide the over 450 folks here with something special for their holi-

day. The joy a simple gift gives someone in a nursing home cannot be

matched. The fact that they were thought of is heartwarming to

them.”
