From the Desk of Executive Director Paul Steffens:

Can summer be ending already? It seems like it just started with our Youth and Com-

munity Department gearing up for their multiple summer programs. But, as you cansee from the pictures of our Camp Hero and our popular YES (Youth Enrichment Sum-mer) Programs, our Murphy Canyon Facility was a beehive of activity with lots of excit-ing programs for military children. On one particularly exciting day, four television re-porters and their camera crews showed up to do live telecasts highlighting all the funthe children were having in the Camp Hero Program...I want to express my personal appreciation to Captain Rick Williamson, CommandingOfficer, Naval Base San Diego for his solid support of our relocation to Building 71. Our

Active Duty Programs office is alive and well in a very convenient location. I invite all

the active duty servicemen and women to drop in and talk to Corey, John and Gauravabout all the programs and activities available for active duty personnel. Check outtheir new digs while you are there...Please check out all the pictures in this issue of all the happy faces participating in ourprograms, as well as all the many donors who make these programs possible. Withoutour many fantastic donors, our programs would be severely limited. Lucky we live SanDiego.. A community that recognizes the sacrifices made by military families and stepsto the plate to assist. We appreciate your solid support...We have some great programs and exciting special events coming up this month. Dont

forget the monthly NEIGHBORHOOD EXCHANGE Program on Thursday, 23 September, but before that be sure to head downtown on 17 September for Operation Liberty Call.On 24 September we have the pleasure of recognizing all the fantastic Ombudsman andFamily Readiness Volunteers at the annual Recognition Luncheon. Please put the fol-lowing two events on your October calendar: October 16 is the En Vogue Fashion Showthat benefits three San Diego Charities, including the ASYMCA. This is a MUST-seeevent great food, great entertainment and fantastic auction items including trips toGreece, and more. October 23rd is the annual Holiday Treasures Craft Fair presented by

Avant Garde start your holiday shopping!!.
