    When Audi entered customer racing at the beginning of, eleven other automobile manufacturers had already

    homologated GT race cars. In spite of this broad range ofproducts, the brand with the four rings managed to gain asignicant market share in many countries worldwide andto sell more than examples of the Audi R race version.

    Last season, our customers started at individual races.

    The competitions were distributed across countries on fourcontinents: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belgium,Brazil, Canada, China, Czech Republic, France, Germany,Great Britain, Italy, Japan, Macau, Malaysia, the Netherlands,New Zealand, Portugal, Slovak Republic, South Korea, Spain,Sweden, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates and the USA.

    Strong resultsNot just the commercial performance is impressive. Lastseason, Audi Sport customer racing with its customersimproved its track record by adding another vechampionship titles. As a result, the combination is creditedwith championship victories. Team PK Carsport won theBRCC endurance race series in Belgium, and Belgian AudiClub Team WRT claimed the FIA GT Series, the highest-

    ranking GT race series worldwide. Team Novadriver addedthe Portuguese title; JB Motorsport was victorious inSweden and MTM in the GT Sprint International.     The Tudor United SportsCar Championship emerged from theGRAND-AM and ALMS race series. As a result, it can claim tobe the leading North American championship for sports cars.Over the winter four Audi teams, GMG Racing, Fall-Line Motorsports, Flying Lizard Motorsports and Paul MillerRacing, registered for the new racing series. The seasonhighlights on the championship calendar are the hours ofDaytona, the -hour race at Sebring and Petit Le Mans.

    Worldwide GT racing proleAs well as in the USA, Audi Sport customer racing also aimsto win a pair of European -hour classics with a factorysupported GT racing program. In the hours at theNrburgring in June and at Spa in July, Audi wants to add toits earlier overall victories. In addition, the four rings will berepresented once again by their customers programs in allthe important series worldwide in GT racing.

    When the Audi R GRAND-AM clinched GT victory atDaytona following a spate of breathtaking slipstreamingbattles in January , the next milestone was passed:Audi collected a trophy at the legendary race track for therst time. The customer racing race car completed the

    -hour marathon in Florida run on banked corners of upto degrees with many production components. The raceversion shares more than per cent with the road goingAudi R V .

    Example engine: the production V engine with FSIpetrol direct injection has such good genes that it can beadopted almost unchanged for motorsport. The powerunit originates from the same manufacturing plant at

    the Gyr facility in Hungary as the production engines.It is equipped with dry sump lubrication ex-works, whichallows the engine to be installed lower. At the same time,it guarantees the supply of lubricant even under extremelateral loads. The oil pressure pump with its differentscavenge and pressure stages is load-dependent, whichin turn increases the efficiency. The standard dry sumplubrication system is perfectly adequate to withstand theextreme loads seen on the oval track at Daytona and everyother race track. Also the power ( kW/ hp) andtorque ( Nm) generated by the Audi R V plus engineare at such a high level that they propel the car to victoriesin racing. Regulations and classications often mean that

    an R LMS ultra even races on some circuits with less powerthan a production model. Another big advantage of the Vengine: it is extremely robust. Race teams benet from thisboth logistically and nancially. An inspection is only dueafter , race kilometers, the rst rebuild follows after

    , kilometers. In the meantime, Audi Sport customerracing regularly rebuilds engines with higher mileage.

    Example Chassis: The Audi Space Frame (ASF) is thebackbone of both the production and race car models.The aluminum frame weighs only kilograms and is

    therefore about per cent less than a comparable steelconstruction. The Audi Space Frame is taken directly fromthe production line in Neckarsulm before different pointsare modied for racing purposes such as the integration ofan air jack system or the steel roll-cage. In addition to thebeam and torsional stiffness, the ASF frame offers anotherbig advantage for motorsport: it has successfully completedrigorous crash tests for road approval and thus provides the

    best possible baseline with regard to safety.

    The sophisticated standard production suspensionincorporating double wishbone axles front and rear alsoforms an excellent base for racing. Suspension componentssuch as the wishbone originate from the production line,and are only modied slightly for racing purposes.

    The close relationship between production and motorsportis a decade-old subject at Audi. Audi has realized a tangibletechnology transfer between motorsport and productionsince the legendary Audi quattro, which won the brand fourrally world championship titles in the s.

    Audi sets milestones not only thanks to Vorsprung durchTechnik. To race with Audi or to get to know a race car at on-track incentive events was an innovative idea that no othermanufacturer had in its portfolio.

    Audi offers its customers a double program once againin . In the eld incentive events, customers canfamiliarize themselves with the GT race car during

    individual training sessions or as Experience Audi R LMSdrive on a race track. Things take on a more serious tone inthe second eld: in customer motorsport its about hardcompetition. The drivers must have prior knowledge of theNrburgring-Nordschleife before they can compete with theAudi race experience in VLN endurance races.

    The numbers prove just how well received the offer is. Since, Audi has encouraged more than , customers to

    get acquainted with the R LMS ultra in one of the Audi raceexperience programs.

    The year is of special importance for the Audidriving experience. The employees move into a newcomplex in Neuburg an der Donau in the summer. A newhandling circuit will be inaugurated on the grounds ofthe Audi driving experience Center. We are pleased toextend the program with the addition of an attractivetrack, emphasizes Klaus Demel, Head of the Audi drivingexperience. Our customers can then also explore the

    The customers with racing ambitions can choose eventsfrom an attractive calendar. The Audi race experience plansto offer its customers three races of the VLN endurancechampionship Nrburgring each lasting four hours, toenable a start in the -hour race and, as season highlight, tocontest the -hour race at the Nrburgring.

    The AudiProtection SeatPS race seats hasset benchmarksafety standardssince the season

    Armin Plietsch, Head of Technology at Audi Sport customerracing, was faced with a challenging task before the season started. The FIA regulations do not permit anyfurther evolutions of the Audi R LMS ultra, the goal was,however, to implement detail improvements where it waspermitted.

    The GT model is revised in two areas. Supplier ZF delivers amodied three-plate sinter metal clutch. The friction plateshave six instead of ve sinter mental elements in the future.The components durability is increased as a result.

    Audi also introduces an innovation in the suspension area.For the rst time, teams can choose between ve springcombinations for both the front and rear axles. There werethree variants before. The range for an optimum set-up thusincreases.

    Audi developed a start system specically for the standingstarts in the Pirelli World Challenge, in which the full FIAGT specication is allowed for the rst time. This so-called

    Launch Control, based on the traction control, enablesconstant engine revs to be held and good starts to bereproduced consistently as a result.

    United SportsCar Championship (TUSCC). Based on theprevious race car for the USA, Audi developed a GTD versionof the R LMS, whereby GTD stands for GT Daytona. Thebiggest difference to the previous R GRAND-AM appearsat the rear. The new rear diffuser optimizes the handling. Itis divided into a central section and two channels runningto both the left and right in order to achieve optimum

    diffusion of the air. The exhaust tail pipes are relocatedto exit upwards. The aerodynamic effect of the diffuserstabilizes the road holding at the limit of adhesion on therear axle. Another aerodynamic optimization results from
