!lot of going and see! There is a lot of talking…’’. This way there are not specific criteria or tactics that a collector uses in order to choose and consequently buy an artwork. Some of them say that they go in art Basel, as well as in other exhibitions of the same kind, with the hope that a piece of art is going to ‘’captivate’’ them, despite that though, as the facts prove, this we should not consider it as a ‘’sufficient’’ or ‘’necessary’’ condition… Half of the art works of the Art Basel have usually been already sold before the opening of the exhibition! That of course does not mean that all the negotiations are being in advance… Art Basel still is the ‘’battle field’’ where ‘’public relationships’’ are everyone’s ‘’weapon’’, both collectors’ and artists’. Now collectors are conversing with the artists and the gallerists, they are talking about art and issues around collecting it. Then the personal conciliation is the factor that contributes to the purchase of an artwork. The fact that causes interest is that Art Basel keeps adding new sectors at her editions that transforming it in a biennale-like exhibition. Those new sectors though, are being added in a way in order to be obvious their difference from the main goal of the exhibition… From the aforementioned differentiation is being highlighted Art Basel’s place in the art world: to bring in touch the art collectors with the art works, to reinforce galleries’ contribution and last but not least to give to newly established artists the opportunity to continue doing their work.

Where is Beauty?! Reconsidering The Loss Of Beauty In Contemporary Art

The investigation of the meaning of the words is the beginning of education as Antisthenes used to say. So, before find ourselves wondering where has beauty gone let us rethink what this word actually means. I'm copying the first definition available: “Combination of qualities that give pleasure to the senses (esp to the eye or ear) or to the mind”. This is the meaning of the word “beauty” at least according to an old, reliable and highly respected english dictionary that is always found on my desk. A definition of this kind is as general and at the same time as specific as needed; and please keep in mind that pleasure to the senses that beauty offers. It will engage our thoughts soon after. From the other side, the rather recent Wikipedia is far more eloquent: five of seven photos that serve as examples for the word beauty show some work of art: a rayonnant rose window, Brunelleschi's dome, the ultimate famous Birth of Venus by Botticelli, a roman fresco from Pompeii and a Chinese jade ornament. Grace Kelly and the night sky in Atacama Desert are also there to represent Human and Nature. At first glance, a strong connection seems to be detected here: to the common sense Beauty does not necessarily include Art but Art includes Beauty necessarily. What is now just a common way of thinking was once a strong demand; in the vast majority of historical periods Art was obliged to serve Beauty by all its means. From Renaissance and after
