Qualities of a Great Leader, Part 1

COMMUNICATE

Often times ideas may seem extremely clear in our minds. Articulating those ideas or

putting them on paper is another challenge. Couple that with making sure everyone

understands your vision and sees where you are going, then you can begin to see why

communication is such a vital component of being a successful leader.

Communicating is imperative from top to bottom. If you are unable to paint your vision to the team, it is fair to say that

everyone may not be working towards the same goal. Be sure to leave all possible

means of communication open to everyone.

Leave the door open. Talk to everyone. Promote healthy and frequent

communication with all. Ideally this lends itself to new ideas, ownership, and

an overall healthy work environment.

HEALTHY ATTITUDES

Along the lines of communication comes a healthy attitude. Keeping your team motivated and energized will go a long way. Healthy attitudes translates

to happier employees and will lend itself to a better quality of work, thus

advancing the success of the company.

Open communication can help foster healthy attitudes throughout an office.

Beyond that, it can be as simple as snacks, coffee, or even special interest office clubs. Finding a healthy balance

between work and play can really transform the office attitude.

LEAD BY EXAMPLE

Never ask an employee to do something you yourself would not

do. If your team is expected to work hard and produce quality

content, then you better be sure you are held to the same standard.

Leading by example is a valuable way of showing your employees that you are beside them in the trenches and supporting their hard work. If it’s motivation you are looking for,

then this is a perfect place to start.

Be a leader. Not only will you earn everyone's respect, but it gives you an opportunity to set the standard. Always lead by

example.

HONESTY

If you plan on leading by example, then the next logical trait should be honesty.

There are several ways to earn the respect of your team, but one of the

most important is honesty. As a leader of a business and a team, maintaining

an honest and ethical standard will take you a long way.

Whether via financial meetings, staff evaluations, or simply

following through on promises, an emphasis on honesty will carry the team much further.
