• The Erosion of Bar Beach had been ongoing from 1905 to 2006

• At the time Eko Atlantic had commenced, 2.5km of beachfront had already been lost to the sea

• Since the year 2000 the Lagos State Government has been inviting proposals for a permanent solution to the problem

• South Energyx Nigeria Limited concluded concession agreement with Lagos State Government in 2005

The interim solution for the erosion of Bar Beach in 2006 was the shoreline protection works

Eko Atlantic - the final solution

•Reclaim 10 square kilometers of land off Victoria Island and parts of Lekki lost to the Atlantic Ocean during 100 years of coastal erosion

•Erect an eight kilometer long Sea Revetment to protect the entire development and Victoria Island

•Develop the land reclaimed into a city

•Depend entirely on private funds to complete the project
