THE NATIVITY OF
ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST
GOGGIN MEMORIAL HOUSING WALK
SATURDAY, JULY 7, 2018 AT 10AM
Sea View Park, Dennis Port (Lower County Road)
Make a donation or come walk with us to raise money for the families in need in our area. The winter months are very difficult for all the service people on the Cape—restaurant help, motel housekeepers, landsca-pers, supermarket workers, etc.—who help make our stay on Cape Cod so enjoyable each summer. Work stops once the season is over and these families desper-ately need your help! This is what the Society of St. Vincent de Paul does, but we NEED YOU to make this possible! Vincentians will be at the doors today and next weekend collecting for this cause. Our mailing address is SVdP, P.O. Box 682, W. Harwich, MA 02671. Can you please give us the means to assist those who need our help? THANK
YOU!!
The Diocese of Fall River is in the process of self-evaluation and so all parishes will undergo a review during 2018. This review invites us to pray for our brothers and sisters in our Church community. This week we pray especially for the parishes of Our Lady of Purgatory (Maronite) (left) and Our Lady of the As-sumption (right), both in New Bedford.
After the sixth week of the Catholic Charities Appeal, 261 families have donated a total of $74,717. We are most grateful for your generosity and caring. If you haven’t yet contributed, please consider making a dona-tion or a pledge during this year’s Appeal. Thank you!
FACE SUMMER GALA TO SUPPORT
CATHOLIC SCHOOLS SCHOLARSHIP FUND The 21st annual FACE Summer Gala to support Catholic school students in the Fall River Diocese, including Cape Cod, is set for Friday, July 13, 2018 at the Willowbend Country Club in Mashpee. FACE is the Foundation to Ad-vance Catholic Education, and proceeds from the evening provide need-based tuition assistance to diocesan students. The Summer Gala will include a delicious multi-course dinner, a live auction, a mystery raffle and more. Boston TV and radio personality Billy Costa, host of NESN’s Dining Playbook, will serve as Master of Ceremonies. Summer resident of Dennis, Gillian Lewis Milligan, is serving as chairperson for this year’s event. In his letter of invitation to the Gala, Bishop Edgar M. da Cunha, S.D.V., points out that through the generosity of sup-porters of FACE, the Fall River Diocese “has been able to provide scholarships to many children who would otherwise not be able to attend a Catholic school,” adding that, “the need continues to grow.” For ticket information or to find out about sponsorship opportunities, please contact Jane Robin of the FACE Cape Cod office at janer@dioc-fr.org. or 508-759-3566.
St. Pius X Women‘s Society will be holding our Annual Summer Fair on Wednesday, July 11th, 2018 from 8:30AM to 2:30PM in our Parish Life Center at 5 Barbara Street, South Yarmouth. Come browse our Fair! Recycled
Treasures will be in our school gym. Crafts, Raffles, Jew-elry, tasty Jams, Jellies, variety of vendors, homemade baked goods (so yummy!), handmade knitted and sewn goods. Fashion and period American Girl Clothes. New this year Kids Zone with games, Face Painting, and more will be located in the St. Pius X School Gym. After you shop, enjoy a delicious lunch in our St. Mary’s Café.
Our Lady of the Cape invites you to attend the first talk of their annual Summer Speaker Series on Tuesday, June 26. Sr. Maureen Casey, SND will be speaking on "God's Longing to Enter Our Hearts: A Spirituality for Eve-ryday." Sr. Maureen is a Sister of Notre Dame and is on staff at the Miramar Retreat Center in Duxbury. She has worked in education and parish ministry, and spent the last 32 years in retreat and spiritual direction ministry. Come and listen to God's desire to capture your heart in the every-day experiences of family, friends, Eucharist, the workplace, nature and so much more. God is always present in walking with us in the joys and sorrows, disappointments and sur-prises, and wants to remind us that we are beloved. The program begins with an optional light dinner at 5:30 PM, the
cost for which is $6. The talk begins at 6:00, is free, and will last for about an hour. All are welcome!

Solemnity of Sts. Peter and Paul, Apostles—June 29—Veneration of the two great Apos-tles, Peter and Paul, has its roots in the very foundations of the Church. They are the solid rock on which the Church is built. They are at the origin of her faith and will forever remain her protectors and her guides. To them Rome owes her true greatness, for it was under God's providential guidance that they were led to make the capital of the Empire, sanctified by their martyrdom, the center of the Christian world whence should radiate the preaching of the Gos-pel. St. Peter suffered martyrdom under Nero, in A.D. 66 or 67. He was buried on the hill of the Vatican where recent excavations have revealed his tomb on the very site of the Basilica of St. Peter's. St. Paul was beheaded in the Via Ostia on the spot where now stands the basilica bear-
ing his name. Down the centuries Christian people in their thousands have gone on pilgrimage to the tombs of these Apostles. In the second and third centuries the Roman Church already stood pre-eminent by reason of her apostoli-city, the infallible truth of her teaching and her two great figures, Sts. Peter and Paul.
