When a child or grandchild dies―whether an infant, toddler, school aged, teen, or adult―parents mourn and begin a pro-cess of bereavement. It helps to become involved with oth-ers who have experienced something similar. Sharing eases loneliness and allows an expression of grief in an atmos-phere of acceptance and understanding. Grief is a testa-ment to the person who has left us. Love does not end, so we feel the loss for years to come. Coffee & Comfort is a place to share stories, to confide in others who truly under-stand, and to discover hope and healing. We meet on the first Monday of every month. For more information, please contact Lorraine Stephens at 708-895-6700.

November 1, 2015

Dear St. Ann Parish Family,

Great to see you again, November! We love the sound of your crunchy leaves beneath our shoes, catching a waft of burning firewood from our neighbor’s fireplace, and the sight of our loved ones ar-riving for Thanksgiving dinner. We salute our Veterans

during November (and always) and fasten our seatbelts for the holidays. November arrives with a litany to the Saints on All Saints’ Day; the day after comes All Souls’ Day, a time to remember our relatives and friends who have gone to Heaven, yet whose memory remains nestled deep within our hearts.

Parent/Teacher Conferences On Friday, we will wel-come our parents into the building for P/T Conferences. This is a half-day of classes for us. Conferences will be held from 1-4 p.m. and 5-8 p.m., or by special appoint-ment. I’ll make sure the teachers have a wonderful din-ner waiting for them at 4 p.m. They each work so hard, and I love to feed them! We ask that students in grades 4-8 attend their conferences. Special thanks to our 8th graders who will serve as timekeepers for the teachers. Another P/T Conference is scheduled for March.

Supper Club Thank you, dear friends, for joining us for October’s Supper Club at Five Guys in Munster. They emailed us (yes, emailed!) a check for $417. How yum-my is that! Please consider dining at Bakers Square in Lansing on Monday, November 9 from 7 a.m. - 11 p.m. In return, Bakers Square will donate 20% of your check to St. Ann’s. I see a pecan pie in my future! You’ll need a voucher. Never fear…just to go to the school’s website to print your copy. Click on the tab “Support SAS” and then “Supper Club.”

A Day of Pre-Kindergarten Fast Forwarded in an Hour A few weeks ago, our pre-kindergarten parents were invited into the classroom one evening for a taste of what their child experiences in our pre-kindergarten program. I would like to thank our Pre-K teacher, Ms. Ashley Fowler, and her aides Mrs. Alderfer and Mrs. Rivas for their hard work (on that evening and every day). Parents learned patterning during circle time, sang, danced, completed an art activity, and an M&M math activity of sorting and counting. From our robust laugh-ter, I know we all had a great time. For more infor-mation about our 3- and 4-year-old Pre-Kindergarten Early Childhood Program or ongoing registration at St. Ann School, please call us at 708-895-1661.

Christmas Giving Tree

Christmas is the season of giving, and what better way to give to those less fortunate than to be a part of our Giving Tree Minis-try event! Giving Trees will be on display in the Narthex after the November 14 & 15 Masses. Gift recipients will be available on a first come, first served basis. Minis-try heads Amy Hollifield and Nancy Hammer ask that all parishioners who take a card from one of the trees please give their name, phone number and card number to them on the provided labels. Purchase your $20-25 gift (no gift cards please), and return it to the Chapel on December 5 or 6. Please note: We can only accept your gift AT CHURCH the weekend of December 5 and 6, and not before. If you cannot get to the Chapel that weekend, please bring your gift to the Parish Office anytime dur-ing the week of November 30. If you would like to help sort presents and ready them for delivery, please come to the Chapel after the 10:30 Mass on December 6. Thank you in advance for your generosity!

St. Ann School grads Cruz Castillo and Molly Roe re-ceived their academic let-ters at the recent Marian Catholic High School Aca-demic Letter Award Breakfast . Students achieving a 4.0 or higher for two consecutive se-mesters earn this award, and they can receive it only once while at Marian. Cruz ’17 & Molly ‘18 achieved this goal for the previous two semesters. Congratulations, and keep up the good work!
