Combustion Section Inspection Reference JT9D Maintenance Manual 72-00 Pages 645-680B Combustion Chamber:

There are 3 areas of damage to the Inner Liner of the combustion chamber at the 6 O’clock. All three areas have circumferential cracking intersecting axial cracks on the louver body forward of the stiffener and/or the louver lip in the same liner. The circumferential cracks are only 6 to 7 inches apart, which is less than 10” minimum allowed and Unserviceable IAW 72-00-00 page 668 attached for reference. In Addition: Area 1 has a hole that is 1” wide and in excess of 0.5” maximum allowed and Unserviceable IAW 72-00-00 page 663 attached for reference. Areas 1 and 3 have a circumferential crack that extends from and beyond an axial crack approximately 2” which would require 300 hours inspections IAW 72-00-00 page 666 attached for reference. Area 2 has a continuous axial crack that connects to two circumferential cracks. Unserviceable IAW 72-00-00 pages 666 and 668 attached for reference.

Area 1 Area 2 Area 3 Suggested Action: Repair Combustion Can. Unserviceable IAW 72-00-00 pages 663, 666 and 668 HPT Nozzle Guide Vanes

Typical burning and cracking was observed to the platforms and trailing edges on many vanes and are within AMM limits.

Suggested Action: None required.
