Remote and Islands communities : a different story
Specific technical & economical features :
 Closed & non-interconnected power grid
 Non nuclearized areas
 Highly dependant to fossil fuel
 Land pressure on island
 Renewable potential already highly harvested
High cost of energy (average of 250/300€/MWh)
 Tropical storms areas
 Need for industrial local content
OTEC is a solution meeting the demand on 3 expectations :
A new source of renewable energy with no risk on the resource
A 24/7 renewable energy delivering baseload electrical flow of
power to the grid
Hybrid onshore concept : multiproducts power plants with
electricity, air conditionning (SWAC), Waste Hear recovery
(ORC), fresh water.
DCNS: First OTEC commercial offshore plant : NEMO Project
• 16 MW offshore OTEC plant
• to be operating in Martinique island by 2019
• 72 M€ awarded under the NER300 programme by the European Commission
DCNS: onshore hybrid multiproducts power plants
• Hybrid onshore concept : multiproducts
power plants with electricity, air
conditionning (SWAC), Waste Hear
recovery (ORC), fresh water.
