Kia ora. Have you ever thought about writing a book? Did you realise we are the only mammal on this planet that records our thoughts feelings and history in such a permanent way. Many of us love reading, but what about writing? I believe there is a write in all of us (dairy farmer Murray Annals, who visited us last year, proved this, even if it did take 10 years for his first book to be completed). Why the discussion about writing? Well many of you read to your children, encourage them to read, show them that you read yourself. But what about writing? When was the last time you read a piece of writing by your child? When was the last time you sat down and wrote something with your child? Everyday I see amazing pieces of writing by our students. They paint with words, they express them- selves in ways that connect with the reader. I have high hopes that many of our students could become published writers. Certainly the internet affords a lot more opportunities for people to become published. You could start a blog, keep an online journal, enter one of the myriad of online writing competitions. Try it you might like it. So instead of reading a book to your child tonight, try something new. Ask them about their day and see if together you could write something about it. It could be about having fun on the slide, something funny that someone said or did. How about sharing an experience with them from your day and writing about it. Remember, just as reading mileageimproves reading, so does writing mileageimprove the writer. PS—any typos are intentional and just for your pleasure in trying to find them. HOME AND SCHOOL NEWS

MOVIE NIGHT AND HANGI As a fundraiser for camp and a welcome to the new families to the district we are holding a movie night with a Hangi dinner to celebrate Matariki, which the children have been learning about. This will be on June the 12th.

Any donations of Roasts, Potatos, Pumpkin, Kumara or Carrots will be greatly appreciated. All Welcome! The Home and School are wanting you all to clean out your wardrobes to make room for all those winter clothes. If you have any clothes from babies to adults that you do not want any more the Kaihere Home and School would love you to donate them to us so that they can be used for an up coming fundraiser. We also would love puzzles, books and any old toys. Any donations can be dropped off at the school office.

Would you like to sponsor the NEW Kaihere School sports uniform? Please contact the school office if you would like your business name on the new Kaihere school sports uniform. Lots of coverage throughout the year at different events around the Thames Valley area. What a great way to support your school and
