With each passing year, it becomes more clear that we need to first be responsible for our own selves when it comes to our relationship with others. The same is true when it comes to how we go about sharing our Christian faith and life. You can’t force others to become followers of Jesus Christ. For so many years I’ve watched how the Church presents stewardship in terms of the giving of our financial resources. It seems that everything hinges on finding just the key phrase or just the right theme or just the right stewardship program, that will mystically cause others to open up their hearts and thus convince them to respond in kind, generously. Yet our own personal experiences in life tell us that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, each time expecting different results. You can’t change people. You can only change how you respond to them. When you have been wounded or betrayed, you have a choice to make. You can either hold on to a grudge and allow yourself to be held captive by anger or you can choose to let go of the burden and forgive. When you find that you have fallen short of expectations in a personal relationship, here again, you have a choice to make. You can either slink away in shame and hide from the sight of others; effectively ending your relationship or you can choose to apologize and ask for their forgiveness. I truly believe this notion of taking personal responsibility for ourselves extends to stewardship as well. The truth is we have no real control over anyone else and how they might choose to respond or not respond to an annual stewardship appeal. We can however share our own experiences as to why we believe it is important for us to do so. Rather than stand in judgement of others, maybe sharing why we feel that All Saints’ is important to our lives is a better place to start a conver- sation about giving. Instead of putting pressure on others to make their stewardship response, perhaps sharing with others why you and your family are doing so might be more helping for others to understand the reasons for giving. I truly believe that love eventually conquers hate. I believe that true compassion inevitably triumphs over fear. I know in my heart that the true Light of Christ chases away the darkness of sin that is found in our broken world. I just need to remind myself to love others unconditionally, to choose to be compassionate with all, and always walk with the Light of Christ as my guide. The noted author, Madeleine L’Engle, keenly observed; “We draw people to Christ not by loudly discrediting what they believe, by telling them how wrong they are and how right we are, but by showing them a light that is so lovely that they want with all their hearts to know the source of it.” God’s Peace, Fr. You Cant Change People. You Can Only Change How You Respond To Them.

Most of us have heard this little bit of wisdom many times over the course of our lives. With each passing year, it

becomes more clear that we need to first be responsible for our own selves when it comes to our relationship with others.

The same is true when it comes to how we go about sharing our Christian faith and life. You can’t force others to become

followers of Jesus Christ. You can only share with others why such a relationship is important and why it matters to you.

In many Protestant traditions this would be called giving you testimony.

For so many years I’ve watched how the Church presents stewardship in terms of the giving of our financial

resources. It seems that everything hinges on finding just the key phrase or just the right theme or just the right stewardship

program, that will mystically cause others to open up their hearts and thus convince them to respond in kind, generously.

Yet our own personal experiences in life tell us that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again,

each time expecting different results. You can’t change people. You can only change how you respond to them.

When you have been wounded or betrayed, you have a choice to make. You can either hold on to a grudge and

allow yourself to be held captive by anger or you can choose to let go of the burden and forgive. When you find that you

have fallen short of expectations in a personal relationship, here again, you have a choice to make. You can either slink

away in shame and hide from the sight of others; effectively ending your relationship or you can choose to apologize and

ask for their forgiveness.

I truly believe this notion of taking personal responsibility for ourselves extends to stewardship as well. The truth is

we have no real control over anyone else and how they might choose to respond or not respond to an annual stewardship

appeal. We can however share our own experiences as to why we believe it is important for us to do so. Rather than stand

in judgement of others, maybe sharing why we feel that All Saints’ is important to our lives is a better place to start a conver-

sation about giving. Instead of putting pressure on others to make their stewardship response, perhaps sharing with others

why you and your family are doing so might be more helping for others to understand the reasons for giving.

I truly believe that love eventually conquers hate. I believe that true compassion inevitably triumphs over fear.

I know in my heart that the true Light of Christ chases away the darkness of sin that is found in our broken world. I just need

to remind myself to love others unconditionally, to choose to be compassionate with all, and always walk with the Light of

Christ as my guide. The noted author, Madeleine L’Engle, keenly observed; “We draw people to Christ not by loudly

discrediting what they believe, by telling them how wrong they are and how right we are, but by showing them a light that is

so lovely that they want with all their hearts to know the source of it.”

In this season of Autumn there often comes a perfect day with clear, blue skies. The sun is

bright, there is a crisp, invigorating breeze, the trees are golden. It’s a day that brightens our

mood, a day of hope. We feel a surge of happiness and expectation; we are reminded of God’s

love for His world. Experience that hope and happiness this autumn and all through the year at

our house of worship. Each day God sends is a day of hope, but we are especially reminded of this

hope on a brilliant Autumn Day.

The new security system is installed now and working properly. New lighting in the downstairs hallways, Father Mark’s office, Lynne Ann’s office, and the Undercroft is now complete. Cabinets, Lighting, and electrical has been completed the Undercroft. We owe a big thank you to Steve Combs, Ron Walters, and Henry Selby for seeing this project thru to completion. We have received a bid for Phase II of our lighting up-

grade. Phase II will complete all downstairs rooms

and rear stairwell. We hope to complete Phase II

sometime next year.

I would like to send a big thanks to George & Lena

Giles, Alex Cunningham, and David Briggs for cutting

up and removing the large tree limb at the play-

ground.

Glen Thompson has been busy the last few weeks

trimming the hedges and shrubbery around the

church. Give Glen a big thanks when you next see

him.

November is best viewed thru the lens of October. Because we all can breathe a sigh of relief

as the BBQ is over and all the leaves have left or are leaving soon. Bingo served sloppy joes to

sixty-seven friends from the Morristown Housing Authority. Patsy Clevenger and Ginger

Goolsby did a great job of calling Bingo in Marylou’s absence. Bingo will be back on its regular

schedule the second Wednesday of the month, November 14th. My guess is the lunch will have

a Thanksgiving theme so stay tuned to Bill Connellee and Marylou’s emails. By the way Bill and

company serve a mean (“mean” being tasty) Sloppy Joe.

The loose offering for November will go to CASA. The acronym CASA stands for Court

Appointed Special Advocate. Some national figures: more than 85,000 volunteers help change

the lives of children every day, more than 250,000 children who were abused or neglected had a

CASA volunteer speaking up for their best interests this past year, and more than 400,000

children are waiting for a volunteer to help them find a loving and permanent home. On

November 7th a representative from the local CASA organization will speak after the Agape

dinner that evening. Our parish has two CASA volunteers: Sharon Oats and Sheree Cardone.

Outreach will be providing the meal for that night.

Food on Foot bags will be filled at the November 7th and November 21st Agape dinners.

Distribution will be on November 24th the Saturday after Thanksgiving. And it will be at the

Food on Foot location at 1 Berkline Drive in Morristown. Helping with distribution – we

should be thankful as this is the week we celebrate our abundance, and how fitting and

wonderful it is to share that with others. Distribution starts at 11 am, but come early - the

fellowship is good too.

The Men of All Saints’ have taken on a project. This is a follow-up to work around Doc

Rooney’s house. We are in the process of purchasing and installing a propane gas wall heater in

Doc’s house. Currently Doc heats with a wood stove.

Outreach will be meeting on November 6th in the parish hall at 6pm come join us.

Wine, Cheese and Chocolate party!

Thursday, November 8, 6:00PM

Home of Sheri Chiappetta

This will be a fun evening of fellowship –

sipping wine - chocolate martinis -

and munching on cheese and chocolate.

This will be a fundraiser for Christmas

Bingo gift cards. There will be no charge

for this party or requirement to bring a

gift. However, we are asking for your

generous donations. We are anticipating

80 guests for Christmas bingo so we will

need to raise $800! So please bring your

checkbooks and be your usual generous

selves!

You will be receiving more information

about this in an email. Please plan to

attend.

Thanksgiving Bingo

Thanksgiving Bingo will be November 14th.

We will serve turkey and all the trimmings.

We will need several cooked and sliced

turkeys. We will send out our usual email

with a menu requesting food. We have been

averaging 70 guests lately. So we really

could use more help.

Please plan on sharing in the fun!

It’s hard to believe, but we have just completed our first nine-week period at the school. Grade cards have been issued and students are gearing up to finish the first semester on a high note before the holiday break. The current enroll-ment is at 117 (up 25% from 2017-18) and we are giving tours and looking for ways to continue this growth through developing new scholarships and growing current ones. Our volleyball team just wrapped up a successful season and the basketball teams are practicing in preparation for their fall schedules. Thank you for all that you do for the school.
