TRANSCRIPT
May 2017
Holy Week marks a series of liturgical events that eventually leads the faith community of
Christians to the holiest day of the year. We start at Palm Sunday and move to Maundy Thursday.
From there we wrestle with Good Friday before leaving its dark despair to embrace the Light of
Christ in the Great Vigil of Easter, where we finally reach our destination of Easter Day. Whether we
know it or not, our lives are on a spiritual journey. Of course every journey has a beginning, all the
obstacles along the way to be overcome or negotiated, and at long last the joy that comes from
reaching our final destination.
For Christians this is quite a wild ride. Palm Sunday begins with Jesus’ triumphant entry into
Jerusalem but in just a few days triumph turns to tragedy. On Maundy Thursday Jesus institutes the
sacrament of Holy Communion. That night he humbles himself in service by washing the feet of his
disciples. Then in three short days, Jesus, once hailed as the King of Kings, is put to death on a
cross that bears the title that mocks him King of the Jews.
The ups and the downs of Holy Week are an emotional rollercoaster to say the very least. Yet
it is the journey the faithful choose to follow every year. We are compelled to relive the story. We re-
peat the same events annually because of where they will eventually lead us. There is no gain with-
out first encountering and experiencing the pain.
At the end of Holy Week is Easter Day which we celebrate as the Feast of the Resurrection.
With shouts of joy we proclaim that the Lord has Risen from the dead! Death has no more dominion
over us! Our lives have been redeemed by the Blood of Christ. On Easter Day our journey is com-
plete.
There is no getting to Easter morning without first going on the journey. Before there can be
celebratory shouts of joy, we must first hear the of despair. Before there is life eternal there must be
a sacrificial death. Before there can be a resurrection the world must first bear witness to a man suf-
fering on the cross. There are no shortcuts to Easter morning.
Alleluia, the Lord has Risen!

Spring! What a blessed time of renewal!
All Saints’ continues to joyfully grow and renew! Look around at all the ministries that are
revived, growing and thriving! See all the amazing people of All Saints’ sharing their lives with
our church. And, to each and every one of you, thank you! We love and appreciate what you do
for the people in your lives for whom you make a difference.
God has blessed us with Lent and Easter for our renewal! Our faith is renewed with Easter. Our
hope is in the confidence we have in God, in His goodness and love. Easter always comes
blessing us with New life again. Hopefully each day we create a new life in our actions and
thoughts. Each day then is an Easter Day!
AND..how blessed are we with our new Rector, Father Mark, and the opportunity to share with
him in celebrating his Renewal of Ministry and welcoming him as our new priest! With his
ordination, the Holy Spirit continually sustains and encourages him in his faithfulness to his
ministry. It is also Father Mark’s love of Jesus and for the people of God he serves. During the
Search for our Rector your Search Committee where faithful in letting the Holy Spirit guide in
the selection process. We had to wait for OUR Rector to find us! AND HE DID!
Lastly, let us continue to pray that God will so renew our appreciation for his love and grace so
we want to tell others what he is doing in our lives and the life of our All Saints’ Episcopal
Church!
Happy Spring!!! Judy Yates, Sr. Warden

“Whose money is it anyway?”
“For all things come from You, and of Your
own have we given you.” (1 Chronicles 29:14b)
Our perspective toward money will affect our
attitudes toward money. If we view money as
our own rather than belonging to God, we will
use it differently than if acknowledge it belongs
to Him. God’s word clearly states that he is the
sole owner of all things.
“The earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness
thereof, the world and those who live
therein.” (Psalm 24:1).
We must honestly remember that we are
stewards, entrusted by God, in charge of the
goods He has given us.

It's time to reshuffle our Foyersgroups again!!! Please come and join us on June 3 from 6-8pm in the parish hall for an evening of food, fellowship, and fun. Adult couples and singles are all welcome. Come and try out Foyer, which is a great way to get to know your fellow parishioners at All Saints' by sharing a meal and conversation. Bring a hearty appetizer and a smile to share as we begin a new season of Foyer fun!!! We're looking forward to seeing you!!!!! If you have any questions, call Louise Joyce at 865-674-7572.

If you missed the Outreach guest speakers in March, Denise Aludo and Marie Nicely, you still can help
CASA. One method of support that they asked for and said it was “first and foremost” for them – was
prayer. Pray for them. They are doing good work and there are volunteer forms on bulletin boards in the
parish hall.
On May 31st a representative from Helping Hands Clinic will be the Outreach guest speaker for the Wednesday Agape dinner. Since October 2003, the Helping Hands Clinic has been the primary care pro-vider for the uninsured residents and employees of Hamblen County with a household income of less than 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. Currently we provide primary care to over 2500 patients at no charge to the patient. We employ one nurse practitioner but apart from that all the providers at the clinic are volunteers and receive no compensation for their work. There are some folks you probably know that are involved with Helping Hands Clinic; Martie Anderson, Cookie Larkin, Bonnie & Bob Vick and Raymond Lowry. Please be generous as you can on May 14th as Helping Hands Clinic will be the recipient of the loose offering that Sunday. Check out their website www.helpinghandsclinictn.com Bingo will be May 10th at High Noon as usual. Easter was an incredible meal and of course a rousing game
of Bingo. The Bingo “Boss,” aka Marylou Mauney, gets the crowd going with her stellar bingo calling. Of
course the parishioners do a fabulous job of support by supplying food, serving people, playing bingo and
just plain helping out.
Food on Foot –will be filling bags before the Agape dinners on May 10th and 24th. Our Saturday to help
with distribution of the bags is May 27th. Bob and Carolyn Jarnigan are very appreciative of the efforts by
All Saints and All Saints parishioners and asked me to thank everyone for the support.
Get ready for the ECW’s rummage sale later in the month. Spring cleaning can turn up some interesting
items that we don’t want, don’t know how we got them or don’t really care either way. However they can
be donated to the Rummage sale and will go to send some local children to Camp Billy Johnson this sum-
mer. That is a good thing.
The All Saints’ men’s group plans meeting and will consider some projects. At the time I am writing this I
am not sure what they will be.
BBQ gift basket was put together to support ALPS during their Gourmet Gala on April 28th.
It was a busy month but thanks to you the parishioners many lives are touched by what we do.
The Outreach Committee: Cookie Larkin, Ginger Goolsby, John Hutchins, Sue Justis, Jackie Fleming, Louise
Dyer, Larry McGowan, Brad Moore and your name could be here.

Greetings parish family,
Thank you to everyone who helped make our Holy Week, Easter and Fr. Mark’s New Ministry services so meaningful and beautiful.
Summer is soon approaching, and vacations will be here before you know it! If you serve on the ROTA and are going to be out of town for vacation, please shoot me an email letting me know the dates that you will be gone. I really appreci-ate everyone’s hard work!
Just a reminder if everyone could please pay attention to our flower chart we still have some openings for the remainder of 2017. As always if anyone would like to be added to the ROTA feel free to let me know!
Many blessings, Dillon Wines 423-258-3015
Sunday School for adults is running well and strong these days! Adult Christian Formation, however, goes well beyond a 45 minute class on Sunday mornings. The possibilities of engaging ever more closely with our Creator and each other are all around us! Confirmation/reception classes, retreats, social activities, EFM (Education for Ministry), Agape, the Wednesday morning Bible Study, and the barbeque are merely a few examples of how we are formed to be of service. Agape, meeting every Wednesday at 5:30, includes fellowship, food, service, and learning. The Sunday night hiking group enjoys a similar experience beginning in Panther Creek Park and ending up at our house for great fellowship . . . and sometimes singing! Please join us for the hike or dinner or both. All are welcome. And bring a friend or two! If you have any ideas that you would like to see Adult Formation address, please let me know. Yours in Christ,, Henry Selby, Adult Ed Liaison
Thank you to everyone that helped make the reception, Easter Brunch and Father Mark’s celebration reception great!
BBQ time is quickly approaching and things are in full swing. The wood has been delivered, the orders for meat, beans,
slaw and sauce making ingredients has been placed. Thanks Dan! Signup sheets will appear in the Parish Hall soon. Please
consider signing up for an additional task that you normally wouldn’t. Phone calls will be made the week before to fill vacancies
and for anyone who may have forgotten to sign up.
ECW Easter Bingo went great. Bingo will continue one Wednesday a month beginning at noon each time. Come out and
enjoy all the fun! The ECW retreat will be Saturday, June 17 at the home of Susan and Jim Fuhr. More details to follow.
Wise Men have a tentative date for the re-structuring meeting of May 6 at the Stambaugh’s. Watch bulletin for more
details.
Graduation Sunday is May 14th and this will also be Sundae Sunday.
We are looking for someone to come onboard and help Louise Joyce with foyer reshuffling. We want to have 3 couples
or 6 members for each foyer (instead of the usual 8) so that we can invite neighbors or friends to join the dinner in our homes.
Please contact me or her if you would be interested.
Thank you to everyone for making Parish Life the great family it has become! Shamron Stambaugh, Vestry Liaison
