July 2015
The Vestry of All Saints’ Episcopal Church an-
nounces the appointment of the Search Com-
mittee who have the task of finding a new priest
to fill our pulpit.
We ask that you add these intrepid parishioners
to your prayers:
Judy Yates, Chair
Jack Fishman, Chaplain
Virginia Carey
Jason Dockery
Susan Fuhr
George Giles
Marylou Mauney
Harold Nichols
Wayne Stambaugh
They will lead us through the process beginning with the Parish Study and ending with the call of a priest.
Sarah Gose, Sr. Warden
It was a good feeling to
be at All Saints’ my first
Sunday here, and to see
a number of familiar faces. And it is good to be here
as your interim priest. Ken and I look forward to
what we hope is a meaningful and productive time
together.
Our interim will be different this time because there are a number of things that we are required to do during an interim time. While the search committee is focused on seeking a new spiritual leader for your parish, we will be working with the vestry as we focus on preparing All Saints’ for a healthy transition to your next rector. There are five developmental tasks the vestry and Interim clergy are required to do during this interim time. Coming to terms with the history of this congrega-
tion and its relationship with previous clergy. Discovering the congregation’s special identity,
what it dreams of being and doing apart from pre-vious clergy leadership.
Dealing with shifts in leadership roles that natu-
rally evolve in times of transition, allowing new leaders to come to the fore constructively.
Renewing and reworking relationships with the
Diocese, so that each may be a more effective resource and support to the other
Building commitment to the leadership of the
new rector in order to be prepared to move into the future with openness to new possibilities.

To all of you who pitched in and grabbed some weeds, I want to express my thanks. You may have noticed some major pruning has taken place around the church. I hired Ramon from "Just Right Landscaping” to do the job and to my delight, Glenn Thompson had done most of the front saving a big chunk of money. So between them the big job is done. We may have to put up with heavily pruned shrubs for a while but they will grow back soon. Also to the McGowan's for clearing the back side beds. Again many thanks to all who helped! George Giles, Junior Warden
[From our Interim Rector...continued from page 1] At first glance you may feel these tasks are unneces-sary, however, experience has proven that the harder your vestry leaders work on addressing these tasks, and the deeper they delve into each one, the greater the opportunity for you to have a healthy, meaningful relationship with your next rector. But this interim requires something on your part also. Several months ago my eight-year-old granddaughter complained that she didn’t like to practice the piano, she just wanted to be able to play it without practicing! I reminded her that in almost anything that she wants to do well, it requires practice, patience, and perseverance. A few weeks later when I was teaching her how to sew, I reminded her of the “Three P’s”. She looked at me and repeated them, practice, patience, and perseverance. Then, another thought lit up her face, and she added the word PRAYER!” Now we call them the “Four P’s!” As we move forward in the coming months, I urge you to have patience for the processes that are taking place. As your senior warden wrote several months ago, “Choose in haste, regret in leisure.” And, please keep your vestry, the search committee, your clergy, the people of your parish, and your next rector in your prayers! Mother Brown

ECW Food & Wine Pairing Event Held
To Benefit Camp Billy Johnson
The ECW of All Saints' Episcopal Church in Morristown hosted a Food & Wine Pairing on Sunday evening,
June 7th. The event served as a fund raiser to assist local children in need to attend Camp Billy Johnson ~
one of the diocesan outreach camps held at Grace Point Camp & Retreat Center each summer.
ECW President, Ms. Marylou Mauney, contacted parishioner and Executive Sommelier, Ms. Jill Bruce, with
the thought of doing a fund-raiser for CBJ. The event was enthusiastically planned with many volunteers
from the church and underway! Approximately 50 women from the church and the Morristown
community were in attendance. Guests were met with an aperitif of sparkling wine upon arrival before
sitting down to beautifully set tables surrounding the swimming pool. The venue was at the home of Ms.
Bruce. Floral arrangements were designed and styled by parishioner, Mr. David Burnette.
The five course pairing included a French Goat Cheese Appetizer, Tangerine Vinaigrette Salad, Rosemary
Encrusted Pork Tenderloin with Green Beans, Sausage & Penne Marinara. A dessert course of Roasted
Pear with Bleu Cheese & Candied Walnuts finished the evening. The women were served by the men of All
Saints' with a wine complimentary to each dish. With the pairings, Jill introduced the wine, described the
nuances of each of them, as well as spoke on the history of the growth of the grapes into fine wines. Very
informative ~ and fun!
The gathering was a wonderful success in fellowship and stewardship.
A fabulous evening ~ and one made even more so ~ with a large amount of funding raised - all used to
send children from Hamblen County, who may otherwise never have the opportunity to go to camp.
A week at Camp Billy Johnson….a week of swimming, fishing, tubing, creating, playing, and sharing on
beautiful Watts Bar Lake.
Surely, God is present in this place!

May 21, 2015 The meeting was called to order at 6:00 pm. The full Vestry was present, except for Briggs and Cordle. Also present were Skeet Jernigan and The Rev. Maggie Zeller, our Search Consultant. Last month’s minutes were approved as presented. Jernigan presented financial information, which was approved as presented. It showed pledges are down by $3,400. The Kirk & Carolyn Wyss Trust is now in operation. The Vestry approved the Finance Committee’s recommendation of a revised yearly budget, which was necessary mainly because of major personnel changes since the original budget was adopted.
Outreach: Motion to allow Hidden Treasures to build 2 raised garden beds on ASEC property near the BBQ pit was approved with no opposition.
Administration: Motion for No disbursements except for budgeted categories, and No more than $999.99 to be spent at one time, was approved with no opposition.
Youth: Upcoming events were announced.
Worship: Need for more acolytes and possibility of holding performances of Knoxville Opera Company and/or Knoxville Symphony were reported.
ECW: The upcoming Food & Wine Pairing fundraiser for scholarships to Camp Billy Johnson was reported.
Adult Education: Plans for late summer meeting and possibility of inviting Rachel Held Evans to be a speaker at an event in 2016 were reported.
Evangelism: Cindy Selby is continuing the Friday ad in the Citizen Tribune.
Jr. Warden: Recent cleaning and minor repair projects were reported.
Sr. Warden: Vestry Resource Guide was distributed and Maggie Zeller was introduced. She spoke to the Vestry about preparing for the search process, and the steps to expect in selecting a Search Committee.
Motion to adjourn was approved without opposition, at 7:16 p.m.
June 11, 2015
All Vestry members were present, except for Maudie Briggs. Also present: Skeet Jernigan, Mary Dockery, Canon Pat Grace, Search Consultant Mag-gie Zeller, Mother Donna Brown, Father Ken Brown, Deacons Jim and Gigi Sharp.
Meeting called to order at 6:00 pm. by Mother Don-na, with a lesson and prayer.
May minutes approved as amended after spelling correction made.
Skeet Jernigan presented financial information, which was approved without opposition.
BBQ made just over $11,000. The Browns’ contract, approved by the Bishop, is on its way back to us. Motion to approve resolution regarding Mother Donna’s housing passed unopposed.
New Business: Jernigan requested approval to make purchases on ASEC credit card on behalf of the Diocese for the stewardship conference. This will be reimbursed. A motion in this regard was passed unanimously.
MaryLou Mauney requested that Jill Bruce be reim-bursed about $1200 for the ECW wine tasting. Mo-tion in this regard passed without opposition.
Sarah Gose announced the Stewardship Confer-ence; the Mauneys and Ginger Goolsby plan to attend.
Mother Brown is here on Sundays and Wednesdays and is always available for pastoral emergencies.
Deacons Jim and Gigi Sharp announced that Bishop Young has approved their request to move forward toward ordination to the priesthood. The next Agape in Action is outside, on June 24. The Cub Scout program has about 20 members and will con-tinue in late August. Henry Selby has resigned from Cub Scout Pack 197 and Project Canterbury due to his upcoming move to South Carolina. Jean Coff-man is having a garden party to benefit All Saints Episcopal School, on June 19.

Page 5 July 2015
Mother Donna reminded us that faith, like tiny mustard seeds, needs to be planted in order to grow. Project Canterbury, our young adults ministry, is growing like mad! The formula for success was pretty simple. We engaged the interest of two newcomers: college students Jose Sanchez and Collis Cody Nelson. We then had a few family dinners with them wherein we all tossed around ideas about how to share the Gospel among young adults. Almost immediately they began to invite their friends to these family dinners/planning meetings! Behold! Project Canterbury was born. I can tell you that these young people, now numbering about 15-20 at our gatherings, are hungry for the good news of redemption and, more importantly, how to share it. Currently we are in the middle of a Bible Study which everyone seems to enjoy. Here’s how it works. First, we eat. Pizza, soft drinks, cookies and chips, or whatever. Then we take turns reading selected scripture passages that go along with short video homilies by Rob Bell (in his “Nooma” series). Some have never tried to find their way around the Bible before; others are old hands at “Bible Drill”. In either case we are discovering the Bible and reading God’s word together! Then we watch the 12 minute homily. And then we talk. Boy is that holy! The sharing of deep thoughts and hopes and questions is spiritually intimate. If time permits, we do another set of readings and a video. I am humbled to be a part of their lives. We close by standing in a circle and praying some of those lovely prayers of the vesper time from Evening Prayer or Compline. Then we go our separate ways. This ministry is a blessing to all of us. If you are an older adult who enjoys working with younger adults, please feel free to join us. We aim to serve young people ages 17-26 (roughly), so please help us pass the word. Cindy Selby
[Vestry Highlight for June continued from page 4.]
Committee Reports:
Outreach: We are sending 5 local children to Camp Billy Johnson. Request made for volunteers to drive and feed children to camp (July 6) and from camp (July 11).
ECW: Kudos for the wine tasting event, which raised enough to send 5 kids to camp.
Youth/Children: VBS with First Presbyterians; VA Creeper Trail on June 20; Sunday School curriculum in place for fall.
Adult Formation: Committee will meet in July or August to plan fall curriculum.
Junior Warden: Ramone has agreed to prune the shrubbery for $700.
Senior Warden: Need to decide on date for Rally Day (before or after Labor Day). Discussion held regarding re-ducing price of frozen BBQ and running ad for BBQ sales in Citizen Tribune prior to 4th of July.
At this point, everyone left the meeting except for the Ves-try and Canon Pat Grace and Search Consultant Maggie Zeller, and the Vestry presented and reviewed potential Search Committee members and reached a consensus of 9 parishioners to serve on the Search Committee, as well as a list of alternates in the event someone declined the invita-tion to serve. From these names, a consensus was reached for the Chair and the Chaplain of the Search Committee.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:55 p.m.

I would like to take this opportunity to say to those of you who have never had the privilege of serving on the Altar , “It is such a blessing!” Sometimes serving may appear intimidating, but please know training is available for many of the positions serving the Altar...Acolyte servers are a great place to begin your participation. Serving as an Acolyte is open to youth and adults. If you are interested please contact Jay Gose, Gigi Sharp or myself. I want you to realize that when you serve it is honor , blessing and a holy experience.

Even though the Outreach Committee did not have a meeting last month, things have certainly been happening!
After approval by the committee that had been working on this proposal, the contract with Hidden Treasures has been signed. This contract will allow Hidden Treasures to build raised beds in the area adjacent to the barbeque pits to teach gardening to the special needs young adults who are currently participating in their program. This particular program is set to begin in the fall and will be overseen by Master Gardeners working in conjunction with Hidden Treasures.
Lend a Hand is currently working on one small project. Please contact Larry McGowan if you have a need or know of a need that this group can help with.
The Agape Feed and Be Fed Service is being held only on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month during the summer and we would love to see you there. We still need food donations for this endeavor as food bags are being distributed by Food on Foot not only on Saturdays but also on Wednesdays during the summer. If you would prefer, you can make a small donation and we can combine that with other contributions to be able to purchase food in bulk. Please memo that your donation is is for Food on Foot.
ALPS' 24th annual Walk to Remember will begin on Saturday morning, July 25, at 8 a.m. The walk will start at the ALPS Center and will be an easy round trip walk thru Olde Towne. This year our own Ruth Frederick will be the Grand Marshal. Anyone donating at least $50 will receive an ALPS Walk tee-shirt, so lace up your walking shoes and come join the ASEC team.
Don’t forget to bring a can or two of food for the Central Services basket. This has been a long-standing project of ASEC and one that is very much needed. Unfortunately, hunger does not take a holiday.
I have saved what I think is the best for last! This year 15 children from across East TN will attend Camp Billy Johnson at Grace Point, including one child from our church. Your generosity to the ECW Food and Wine Pairing fundraiser enabled us to provide scholarships for five children and the ASEC youth contributed a sixth scholarship. The money for the remaining nine children is being paid by the Episcopal Diocese of East Tennessee. This is the very first time children from Hamblen County have been chosen to attend this camp. I have been working with Carolyn Jarnigan registering these children and there is so much excitement. The Tribune is going to write an article about this project and include pictures of the children as they leave the Food on Foot Warehouse on Saturday morning, July 6. There have been so many people who have worked very hard to enable us to provide this wonderful camp experience to children who would not otherwise be able to afford to go. To all of you who helped in any way to make this possible, I extend my heartfelt thanks.
Blessings to all, Ginger Goolsby, Outreach Liaison to the Vestry
