Students will continue to be

engaged through reading

rotations this term. Students will set personal goals that they

strive to achieve over the course of the term, as they

rotate through four activities with different literary focusses.

We will be looking at comprehension strategies this term,

including locating text and visual features, sequencing texts and visualising. We

will also look at expanding vocabulary, working on the reading accuracy and

their fluency when they read. During library sessions students will completing

Reading Adventure activities to improve their understanding of the texts.

WRITING

In writing this term, students will be studying Information Reports, Procedural

writing and exploring writing used in Media platforms. Writing sessions will focus

on developing various writing skills including writing to specific audiences,

collating information to present in reports, focussing on text structure and using

language features to enhance their writing. Students will edit their own writing;

paying close attention to their spelling, punctuation, grammar, sentence and

paragraph structure to ensure their writing is cohesive.

Structured spelling lessons will be included in the weekly

timetable, targeted at developing students’ phonological

awareness. Students will be given weekly spelling lists which

they will be tested on at the beginning of the following

week. Students will be encouraged to include their weekly

spelling words in their writing to further develop their

understanding of the words.

Literacy

of shapes with symmetrical and tessellating patterns by

flipping, sliding and turning them in their environment.

Students will collect data through surveys, create tables and graphs,

comparing the data sets and analysing their effectiveness. Students are also

encouraged to complete times tables and division patterns for their

homework and mental maths for fast facts.

CAMP

We are busily preparing for the Year 3/4 Camp to ‘The Island,’ a camp in Philip Island

from 30th October – 1st November. An expression of interest form will be sent out in the

next few weeks including a deposit to hold your child’s place at camp. Medical and

permission forms will be also be sent out in the near future.

If your child has asthma please ensure you book an appointment with your child’s

doctor to review their asthma plan and complete their camp preparedness form. More

information regarding packing lists, dietary requirements and a suggested payment

plan will be sent home later in the term. We are really looking forward to camp this year,

the camp has great facilities and engaging activities for the students to participate in.

You can learn all about the campsite using their website: http://theisland.cyc.org.au.

For a lot of students this may be their first camp. There are many things you can do to

prepare your child for camp: Having sleepovers at a friend or family member’s house,

packing their own bag to take with them, using public bathroom facilities and eating

communally. We hope to have all of our Year 3/4 students participating in camp. It is a

wonderful opportunity to build community and socialise in a relaxed atmosphere with

peers and teachers.

THINGS TO REMEMBER School starts at 8:50, by 9:00 we are into our lesson. If a student is late, please sign

in at the office, students must be signed in by their parent.

Please email, Flexibuzz, phone or write a note to your teacher or the school when

your child is absent.

To stop the spread of illness in our level, please keep your child at home when they

are unwell. Home is a much better place for them to recover and minimises the risk

of further illness spreading.

If you haven’t already done so, can you please send a box of tissues for the Year

3/4 learning area.

Please ensure your child is not arriving at school before 8:40am as the yard is not

supervised until this time. Students who are consistently early will be sent to Team

Kids and charged for Before School Care.
