LEARN TO SWIM AT THE Y.For many, the YMCA was where one learned how to swim as a child and for good reason. Since 1885, the Y has been a pioneer in swimming education. Literally millions of people have learned to swim through the YMCA's perfected program. In Y Swim Lessons participants learn and practice new swimming skills and feel a sense of achievement from mastering something new that they can enjoy the rest of their lives.

Parent Child Shrimp, Kipper and Inia Lessons are for children under the age of three and their parents. The primary objective of the class is to get the child acclimated to a water based environment. The class will allow the child to have fun in the water while the instructor guides the adult in how to teach the child aquatic skills. Swim diapers must be worn under a bathing suit.

Parent Child Perch For children 19-36 months. This class allows the child and parent to continue developing the skills they began in the SKI portion of the program while becoming more independent. Swim diapers must be worn under bathing suit.

Pike With Parent For children that are ready to age progress to the independent classes but might not be ready to let go of parents. The students will learn basic Pike skills while being encouraged to be independent in a class environment.

Level 1: PIKE The first level of lessons is for beginning swimmers. Swimmers should be able to listen to instructions and follow directions. Swimmers will learn the basic paddle stroke on the front, back and sides. They will also be taught kicking skills and putting their face in the water.

Level 2: EEL Swimmers will learn to jump in without assistance, float on their front and back for 20 seconds with or without an IFD. Swimmers will also learn to paddle on front, back and side for 25 yards with an IFD and 15 feet without. Prerequisites: To enter this level, swimmers should be able to front and back float 20 seconds with an IFD. Swimmers should also paddle on their front, back and side for 10 yards with an IFD, and 5 feet without.

Level 3: RAY In this class swimmers will learn to front and back float 30 seconds without an IFD; front alternating paddle with rhythmic breathing 25 yards with an IFD, and 20 feet without. Swimmers will also learn front symmetrical paddle with rhythmic breathing 25 yards with an IFD, and 20 feet without; do a side alternating paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and 20 feet without; back alternating paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and 20 feet without; and back symmetrical paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and 20 feet without.

Prerequisites: To enter this level, swimmers should be able to jump in without assistance, float on their front and back for 20 seconds with or without an IFD. Swimmers should also paddle on front, back and side for 25 yards with an IFD and 15 feet without.

Level 4: STARFISH In this class swimmers will learn to do a standing dive; basic front crawl rotary breathing 25 yards; basic breaststroke 25 yards; backstroke 25 yards; elementary backstroke 25 yards; basic sidestroke 25 yards; and tread water 1 minute. Prerequisites: To enter this level, swimmers should be able to front and back float 30 seconds without an IFD; front alternating paddle with rhythmic breathing 25 yards with an IFD, and 20 feet without. Swimmers also need to be able to front symmetrical paddle with rhythmic breathing 25 yards with an IFD, and 20 feet without; do a side alternating paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and 20 feet without; back alternating paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and 20 feet without; and back symmetrical paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and 20 feet without.

Level 5: Flying Fish In this class swimmers will learn to do a flip turn; swim 100 years from crawl with bilateral breathing; swim 100 yards breaststroke; swim 100 years backstroke; swim 100 yards elementary backstroke; swim 100 yards sidestroke alternating sides; swim 100 yards lifesaving sidestroke; and swim 15 yards butterfly.

Prerequisites: To enter this level, children should be able to tread water for 3 - minutes; swim 50 yards front crawl; swim 50 yards breaststroke with legal kick and arm pulls; swim 50 yards backstroke; swim 50 yards elementary backstroke with a glide; swim 50 yards sidestroke with a scissors kick; and swim 15 yards butterfly.

Level 6: SHARK In this class swimmers will learn to take their own heart rate; learn about open water and backyard pool safety; swim 100 yards from crawl with flip turns; swim 100 yards breaststroke with pull-out; swim 50 yards inverted breaststroke; swim 100 yards backstroke with dolphin kick and pullout; swim 50 yards over arm side stroke; swim 25 yards butterfly with streamline; and swim 200 yards individual medley.

Prerequisite: To enter this level, children should be able to do a flip turn; swim 100 yards front crawl with bilateral breathing; swim 100 yards breaststroke; swim 100 yards backstroke; swim 100 yards elementary backstroke; swim 100 yards sidestroke alternating sides; swim 100 yards lifesaving sidestroke; and swim 15 yards butterfly.

Cardio Water Fitness Family pool. This class is designed for a quick cardio session to get you moving and accustomed to water fitness. Great for those just finishing the arthritis class and looking for a little bit more activity. This class is for members only.

Deep Water Fitness Lap Pool 10' Must be able to swim 25 yards and tread water to attend.

Evening Water Fitness Family Pool 4'-4'6" No swimming skills required. You pick your intensity. Good for beginners to advanced.

Morning Water Fitness Lap pool 3' to 10' Must be able to swim 25 yards and tread water to attend. Low to medium intensity. Moves from shallow to deep.

Prenatal /Postpartum Family Pool 4'-4'6" Medium Intensity Start as soon as find out your expecting and continue after baby is born.

Adult Beginner 1 This is for individuals age 16+ who have either not had formal swim lessons, are not comfortable in the water or know very little swimming technique. The class will focus on water adjustment and the basic fundamentals of breathing, kicking, floating and timing. This class is for those who might hold some fear and have trouble getting feet off the ground. (Family Pool)

Adult Beginner 2 This class is for those who are graduating out of Beginner 1 or are able to kick or swim one length of the lap pool but not yet comfortable treading for over 1 minute. These swimmers are able to front and back float but still uneasy with streamlining and underwater swimming. This class is taught primarily in the lap pool but will also cover skills in the family pool.

Adult Intermediate This is for swimmers age 16+ who are comfortable in the water and know the fundamentals of swimming (breathing, kicking, floating). Swimmers should be able to swim two lengths of the lap pool and tread water for 1 min. The class will focus on strengthening the front crawl and back crawl, with additional work on sidestroke and breaststroke. (Lap Pool) This class is great for those looking to do a triathlon or join masters but are need of a little extra guidance.

Arthritis Foundation Family Pool - 4'-4'6" No swimming skills required. Low intensity class - good for injury recovery. Arthritis Foundation Certified Program.

Aqua Zumba Lap Pool 3'-4'6" Shallow end of pool. This class is choreographed and set to music. No swimming skills required. Medium to High intensity.

SWIM TEAMBuild self-confidence and self-esteem with participation in a team sport while building individual skills and having fun.

With YMCA Swimming and ASCA-certified coaches always on the pool deck, swimmers will receive the best and most innovative methods of instruction and training during their season. Each coach is specialized in the age group and is educated and trained to handle each group for maximum effectiveness.

Gym And Swim This unique program will give a sample of a gymnastics class and a swim class all in 1 hour. Gymnastics begins at 2pm and children MUST wear their swim wear to gymnastics class. The instructors are not allowed to change their clothes. The gymnastics staff will take them to the pool and parents will pick up after swim at 3pm. Participants must sign up for both gym and swim.

Gymnastics Advanced Tiny Tykes (Age 4) For the girl who is more advanced in skill, strength, flexibility and social skills. Must have taken a minimum of four sessions of Tiny Tykes.

Gymnastics Tiny Tykes (Age 3-4) An introductory class for preschool-age children ready to attend class without a parent or caregiver. Children will develop coordination, body awareness and gross motorskills while working on listening skills, following directions and social skills. Children will use all gymnastics equipment. Curriculum is progressive with a different gymnastics position and concentration each week.

Gymnastics Tyke Fit Introduce your child to exercise and a healthy lifestyle early with this gymnastics based program. We will teach how to exercise your heart, how to strengthen and stretch your muscles, and basic good nutrition.

Gymnastics Young Beginner (Age 5-6) Children will learn all gymnastics events in levels 1 and/or 2, in a group of their peers.

Stop in every Friday night from 6:30-7:30pm for Open Gymnastics. $5 M/$15 NM

Gymnastics Advanced (Age 8-16) Must be able to pass a level 3 evaluation and/or have permission from the director.

Gymnastics All Boys Our boys gymnastics program focuses on strength development, body positions, and gymnastics skills on all of the boys apparatus. We also work on listening skills and socialization within the group setting. Boys will be divided by age and skill level.

Gymnastics Level 1 (Age 6-16) Little or no experience in gymnastics. Girls will learn body positions, handstands, cartwheels, forward and backward rolls, and basics on the apparatus.

Gymnastics Level 2 (Age 6-16) Should have had some instruction in gymnastics and be able to pass a Level 1 evaluation. Start learning backbends, kickovers, pullovers on bars, and basic vault and beam skills.

Gymnastics Level 3 (Age 6-16) Must be able to pass Level 2 evaluation. Girls will begin learning walkovers, handsprings, skills on the high bar, more advanced vault skills and start taking their floor skills to the beam.

Cheer Tumbling This class is for the cheerleader who wants to learn intermediate to advanced tumbling skills. Participants must have a minimum of intermediate skill level to participate.

Contrary to common thought, it is not always a "slow" paced class as it utilizes a variety of musical tempos for it's beautiful turns, jumps and balances. Students should wear a leotard and tights and have pink ballet shoes.

Dance Hip Hop Hip-hop dance evolved from the hip-hop culture and is usually danced to hip-hop or R&B music. The first dance associated with hip-hop was break-dancing. While break dancing consists primarily of moves executed close to the ground, the majority of hip-hop moves are done standing up.

Dance Jazz Jazz dance is a highly expressive form of dance that nurtures individuality while developing style and flair! This energetic class starts off with an energetic warm up and moves to progressions of footwork and turns across the floor as well as various types of jumps and leaps. Class ends with a short center combination that will help to solidify the lessons of the day. Students should wear a leotard and tights or leggings and have black jazz shoes.

Dance Li'l Movers Have fun learning the basics of dance with pre-ballet. In this Creative Dance based class, we will work on rhythms, coordination, flexibility, self-expression and confidence. It also teaches listening skills and dance class etiquette.

Baseball Skills and Conditioning Baseball Skills and Conditioning is an instructional program that teaches batting, fielding, and throwing techniques. A great class to help players at any level improve overall baseball skills.

Basketball Boot Camp Step your game up to the next level with Basketball Boot Camp. This class is now offered two days a week. Participants can choose to register for one or both days. One class each week will focus on individual skills and conditioning for basketball, while day 2 emphasizes team-based activities and lead-up games. This class is a great progression from our Basketball Fundamentals class and is sure to challenge your young athlete!

Basketball Fundamentals Basketball Fundamentals is a great introductory class for youngsters who may not have previously had experience playing basketball. We focus on developing the basics in this class: dribbling, passing, and some shooting are covered with emphasis on teamwork and fun! Now offered on Tuesday, Thursday, or both!

Rock Wall Ascenders Climb This course is set up for wall crawlers just starting out and striving to get their climbing career in motion. We will provide the complete machinery and initiative to ensure that the students will have a positive and fun experience. The basic necessities of climbing - commands, technique, and confidence - are the bedrock of this class.

Soccer Kickers Hey guys and gals! Come out and work on those skills. We stress ball control, defense, fun, and of course, we'll be playing games!

Rock Monkeys A marvelous class for kids that are inquisitive about the world of climbing. The cornerstone for an extended and riveting climbing career will be anchored as a result of this class. Kids will learn to climb, build confidence and increase self-esteem.

Youth Racquetball Learn and practice the basics of racquetball in a group environment. Racquet and safety goggles required. Maximum 8.

Preschool Days Out (Age 3-5) Our 1/2 day preschool day out includes structured classroom based activities complete with a circle time, games, crafts, and the use of our facility. Please bring a sack lunch and beverage in an unbreakable container.

Preschool Full Day (Age 3-5) Full day licensed preschool 7am-6pm is offered year round. Early childhood teachers use Creative Curriculum where children are encouraged to learn through play. We incorporate social, language, academic skills as well as physical activity. Breakfast, 2 snacks, lunch and a 45 min weekly swim lesson is included in the tuition.

Kids Days Out Our Kids Day Out Program, designed for children in grades K-6, offers a full day of entertainment including field trips, games, arts and crafts, and activities in areas of our YMCA facility like our pool, gym, and Family Adventure Center. Care is provided from 7am to 6pm. Remember to bring a lunch, drink or water bottle, snack, swimming suit, and towel each day.

Before School Care We operate a DCFS-licensed before-school care program throughout the school year. Care is provided beginning at 6:45am until students are transported from the YMCA to school. Breakfast is provided daily. Activities include character development, classroom games and activities, and arts and crafts.

After School Care We operate a DCFS-licensed after-school care program throughout the school year. Students are transported from school to the YMCA and provided care until 6pm. A snack is provided daily. Activities include homework support, character development, games and fitness activities, arts and crafts, swimming, and much more.

Kindergarten Counts Children attending Kindergarten at District 15 schools including Hunting Ridge, Jane Addams, Lake Louise, Lincoln, Marion Jordan, Paddock, Pleasant Hill, Sanborn, Virginia Lake, Whitely, and Winston Campus can extend their school day to include the Kindergarten Counts Program at Buehler YMCA which provides educational and enrichment activities. Kindergarten Counts is a DCFS-licensed program taught by early childhood educators with a curriculum based on Illinois Common Core Learning Standards and includes Jolly Phonics and Guided Reading.

Kindergarten After School Care We operate a DCFS-licensed after-school care program throughout the school year. Students enrolled in our PM Kindergarten Counts program can extend care to 6pm through enrollment in Kindergarten Link. Activities include character development, games and fitness activities, arts and crafts, swimming, and much more. Additionally, staff will transfer children to and from other YMCA programs that operate during Link Program times.

Youth Plyometric Training Plyometrics -- also known as jump training -- is a training technique designed to increase muscular power and explosiveness. Originally developed for Olympic athletes, plyometric training has become a popular workout routine for people of all ages, including children and adolescents. This class will also include exercises that include medicine ball while doing plyometric training

Youth Tabata The Tabata workout lasts only four minutes, but is one of the longest four minutes you'll encounter. The structure of the program is; workout hard for 20 seconds, rest for 10 seconds, and complete 4-8 rounds

Youth TRX Ages 8-14 This program moves through a variety of exercises including: warm-up; upper body; lower body, and, core. Engages all your muscles with non-stop total body workout. It is ideal for people who are new to TRX and want a fun high energy experience. Limited to 10 people per class.

Reformer The Pilates Reformer is the most versatile and fun piece of equipment in the Pilates equipment repertoire. These group training sessions are for everyone, from the beginning non-exerciser to the advanced athlete and all those in between. Sorry! Adults only!

Reformer 2 is an intermediate reformer class and needs instructor permission to sign up. Advanced reformer is for advanced students and is invitation only.
